Couldn't remember if I had it on but did a search under settings and guess what - it doesn't show up. I did find it but I guess somewhat of a bug that it doesn't show up when you search settings....

Settings is a mess. Searching is not nearly as good as it used to be. I don’t know why Apple is so bad at search but they seem consistently bad across all platforms. Spotlight on iOS is about as good as it gets for search on Apple operating systems.

Bro. Betas have been around for ages. They should at least install flawlessly. It’s ridiculous that this is happening.
The meaning of beta is to be tested, while alpha can be used by so many internal people, getting a beta in the wild will help test different user scenario impossible to do in house.

So this might happen and has happened to beta to different companies in different stages.

Nothing to see, move along.

What does Apple do if an iPhone gets bricked during one of these installs? I get that it's a beta and we're taking a risk.

But say I did not have AppleCare+ on my iPhone 11 Pro and tried installing this. Would I just be on my own or would they try to help me get it back on track?

Or with iOS, is it just a matter of installing the next updated version of iOS and I'm good?

Confidently incorrect. Both alphas and betas can be tested internally and externally. Both are the same concept, with betas simply following alphas in a release cycle.

Ha I tried to get it to do a few others but they just get worse each time you ask it to make changes. Nice prompting.
What’s interesting about DALL-E’s integration is that I believe ChatGPT creates the actual prompt, so what I like to do is set the stage for ChatGPT and give it a brief historical context of the aesthetic I’m going for.

So for this I went into detail about Apple’s design aesthetic and the products it should be influenced by and then the typefaces Apple typically uses. Then when it comes up with two responses, I’ll tell it to focus on one or the other and what I specifically like about the design choices it made, or I’ll click the little button underneath to have it regenerate two more. Typography is always a challenge, but getting better.

But yeah, it can be quite a fight and if you go a few prompts deep you can lose control. I think that it helps that I have a background in graphic design, photography and art history and have provided some art direction to a team of designers over the years. So I kind of know how to talk about this stuff, and I’ve noticed that it responds well to this approach since it’s similar to what it has absorbed through its training data. ChatGPT converting all of this into DALL-E optimized prompts helps a TON and is a very interesting development.

But there is still a ton of work to do. I would never turn in this image as final work, but it can really help knock out a concept quickly and get everyone on the same page. I imagine this will also be amazing for creating video storyboards on the fly, which are more about having a ton of concepts and visualizing framing and planning out lenses and other such gear.

I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

I suspected it was generating a prompt based on the file name. Those are some very helpful tips I will try. I don’t have much of a background in art and certainly not as a profession.

Use a Mac with DFU and update or restore the connected iPhone. Then restore your data/settings from your backup using iCloud or a Mac.

updated message from Apple

Important

iOS and iPadOS 17.3 beta 2 have been withdrawn temporarily due to an issue that prevented a small number of devices from starting up. If your device is in this state, you can recover it by entering Recovery Mode and restoring a previous version of iOS. Instructions can be found at https://support.apple.com/HT201263.

I expect another build today or tomorrow.
Where did you see this?

I wonder if they’ve put the previous build of 17.3 on there now. I tried this yesterday but it failed, not 100% sure if it was because it was trying to replace it with an older public release or because the process really wants you to have lots of free space on your computer. Am pleased I persevered with Apple Configurator and got it fixed that way without needing to do a full restore at least.

The whole point of these betas is to test things with a larger group of people with many different real world device and software configurations.

It’s annoying that Apple apparently didn’t have any unit testing with Back Tap enabled that caught this, or folks who had this issue internally before they rolled it out, but the point of testing is explicitly to spot issues like this before they affect other users. That very much includes install issues, if it didn’t, Feedback Assistant wouldn’t have a whole category for software update issues.

Did you read the article? This is for a beta release, NO ONE should be using this type of software on daily-use devices.
THAT'S WHY this is a beta.
Nobody should be using them on daily use devices without understanding that they are much more likely to encounter bugs, and that they should ensure they have good backups.

You mean a shell of the company who released Mac OS X snow leopard with a bug that would erase an entire user’s home folder without warning?
Or how about a shell of the company that pulled a golden master of iOS 4.2 for totally disabling the Wi-Fi capabilities of the iPhone 4?
Or how about a shell of the company that released a version of iOS 8 that disabled cellular data and Touch ID?

Don't forget that fun couple of weeks when you could just press enter to bypass the login password. That was the worst one to me. How does that even happen?

They don't show iOS 17.3/IPadOS beta 2 online currently. I questioned the need to retract iPadOS because it doesn't use back tap and also no one commented that it was failing even if it is based on iOS.

I suggested that during the package building of the installer something went wrong. Also saw some weird server side issues with MacOS installer being delivered. Started to download then a few seconds later it vanished, 2nd time went OK. Anther instance with started an install that said you would take 43 mins. Interrupted it and it proceeded normal speed. So Apple could additionally had server related issues early morning Wednesday PST.

This is likely to be a replacement build which will be available to all testers even if you updated to beta 2 already.

I have it on my phone right now and it is working fine. Back tap is off and always has been.
I don't have the back touch active since it causes me discomfort when carrying it in my pocket and any touch activates it with which I have it deactivated, I see it acceptable for some things but not constantly activated.

Right, still devs normally have everything backed up in case something happens.

This certainly isn't first time something has like happened. It's rare but sometimes a installer package has some issue that was undetected internally.
That's why we are the developer testers to see the problems of the beta jajajajajajajajaj
