That is what I thought yesterday also but the Apple rep confirmed that the device was recalled or "Requested to return to warehouse" by Apple.

Yes, but was that request made before or after it was erroneously marked "Refused by Recipient"? I suspect it occurred after Apple was notified that the package was refused. I also don't see this as Apple's error, but FedEx's.

Hi,

The same thing happened to me. I saw last night it was listed as "refused by recipient" on FedEx's site and immediately called FedEx as I was home all day and never saw a truck. They told me it had been stopped by Apple and to contact them. I called Apple this morning and while the CSR said she wasn't sure what was going on she also said there was a number of others with the same issue. She credited me for the cost of the Smart Cover I had ordered with it and assured me it would be resolved soon. She also mentioned that she'd seen some others with the problem getting new iPads shipped already with expedited shipping.

I (and another poster with the same issue) ordered a 16gb Verizon model on 5/24. Perhaps there was a bad batch that they didn't catch until after shipping?

Well, That is probably what it is. Thank you for posting! Sorry this happened to you also. Hopefully others that have questions will find this thread.

Keep us posted on what you hear, if you don't mind.

Thanks Again!

Me thinks that someone at Fedex (either the delivery guy or at their office) wants a FREE iPad.

No way that Apple would change delivery instructions on the last minute.

I smell a rat......Focus on the Fedex people, I'm sure that's what Apple CSR is already trying to follow which is why you're not getting any immediate feedback from them.

If you want an iPad so badly, why did you wait for a three week delivery.
Why didn't you get but at a local store.
My experience has been that the more exoensiev 3G 64 gig models are the easiest to locate.
I nouns one within half an hour when I went looking a month and a half ago

You should be happy that Apple recalled it as it was probably a bad batch or something if it is happening with other people.

It's better to not of had the iPad than to have a broken one sitting in front of you which is unusable:rolleyes:

Don't worry, bro. I feel for you. Lots of people are in here saying you're being dramatic but if it was their 1000 bucks I can almost assure you they'd be acting in a similar fashion.

Lots of people judge without considering how they'd react if they were the person they are judging. I know I'd be pretty upset. Of course things go wrong in the scope of things, and I'm sure this is one of the few, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be upset.

Ding Ding Ding,

Sounds like a bad batch of iPads went out and Apple caught it before Delivery.

Well if that is the case, one would think that they would notify the people affected. They have not contacted me yet.
Patiently waiting.....

Thank You! Exactly!

Still no news. Oh well.

I am happy they caught it, just displeased with the lack of communication from Apple. Love to know when the other one will be here.

Thanks for commenting

Well, out here in Wyoming, there seems to be a shortage. Or there was shortage. I looked in Denver....Found None! No Kidding! We really called everywhere. Even the mac store in Denver was out.

Thanks for commenting though.

That would be an interesting twist!

I feel for you. :)

I'm sure it will all work out.

OK. Here is the lastest: Apple rep can not tell me what is happening. He credited me 100 bucks on the order! Yay! Thank You Apple rep! Now we're talking some warm fuzzy's.

Nice young man! Thank you sir!

Updates to follow as soon as I know anything.

Something is really funky when even the Apple rep can't tell you what's going on. If there was a recall, he should know about it.

Happening to me too

Hi,

Just to weigh in and say that the exact same thing happened to me. iPad2, 64GB, and 3G for Verizon. Fedex listed an exception, I called, and they said it was on its way back to Apple. A gift that my wife, daughter and my brothers and I bought for my mother for her birthday.

When I spoke with Apple yesterday, they were cryptic and apologetic, telling me that I wasn't the only one experiencing this, and the agent gave me his direct extension. They said they'd call me back, but I only received an email from Apple, saying that Fed Ex would make two more attempts to deliver. This contradicted the tracking information which had the iPad2 on its way to Elk Grove, CA via Memphis.

This morning I called Apple again, explained my case to "Lynn" and she apologized, said that it was happening with everyone, that all Apple products out there being delivered via Fed Ex were mysteriously all changing course and being sent to Elk Grove, CA. She said it is a major glitch in the system with FedEx and at 12:00 PM Central Time, they still had no idea what was going on. She said all the agents were going through hell and that all the phones were abuzz with the exact same situation with FedEx, and assured me that all orders will be fulfilled.

So, it seems like a crazy mess, but one of those things that just comes with the territory. Stuff like this happens. I am eager to find out what happened and how. But just know that many others are in the same boat.

Keep calling apple back and give them hell. Don't listen to these people that say you should deal with it. Ive never heard of someone who ships something being able to call up fedex and say "nevermind" once its shipped and paid for its going to its destination. something tells me this has something to do with fed ex but you paid apple so they should make it right. Have them deal with fedex afterwards.

I dealt with apple support yesterday it took 4 calls to support to get to the bottom of a problem I was having. The second guy told me it would take 1-2 days to get it worked out. after paying them twice for the same service and still not getting it I was done waiting so I kept calling back until I found a rep that was going to work with me on the phone until the problem was fixed. and ill be calling them back again soon if my refund isnt processed.

You pay them $2000 for something wait 3 weeks and then this happens? I would be beside myself.

In this case: Apple is dropping the food in my lap.

I thought the problem was that Apple simply didn't bring the 'food'?

Sure, you should get the money back for the one you haven't received if you don't want to receive it. Otherwise, keep on with the customer service rep. They know more than we do. Best of luck to you.

well this makes it sound like there was something going on with fedexs system if its happening to everyone. im sure apple will issue giftcards on behalf of fedex or something.

I don't think Apple would bother trying to keep this "hush hush". Why would they want your iPad? I'm sure they would much rather that YOU have it.

I do understand that it is frustrating to wait though. From the time I convinced my wife to let me buy an iPad 2 to the time it came in (4 weeks later) seemed like an absolute eternity, especially because I am someone who has a real world need for this type of device. I have always felt a tablet fit my lifestyle a lot better than a laptop.

Anyway, good luck. It doesn't sound like anyone is trying to scam you, just that there has been a mix up. And if it really ends up being Apple's fault they'll probably throw you a free smart cover or something.

Actually, if there is a large scale issue with the product that could ultimately have an effect on the stock price. I doubt that is the case though. Always best to solve a problem before it shows up on the news.

Apple is selling MILLIONS (plural) of iPad 2s a month.

If your expectation is that 100% of every one shipped is delivered without incident, and that you're going to be able to call and get an immediate answer when something bizarre happens (like your delivery), then I think it's your expectations that are out of line with reality.

Crap happens. We're sorry it happened to you. Hopefully this all gets sorted out quickly. But honestly, "Apple sure isn't letting the cat out of the bag", as if there is some bigger conspiracy in regards to your particular delivery...

And FWIW, the last Mac I ordered with AppleCare shipped with nothing extra. It was automatically enrolled with AppleCare when it shipped, and I was mailed separate AppleCare coverage documents a week or so later.
If they're selling millions per month, then they should not have a problem compensating the guy for his frustration.

That's funny, I thought people said 'calm down and figure out what is going on before jumping off the handle or demanding compensation' and I'm still pretty sure that's a reasonable course of action. It's also somewhat close to what the OP has done. The OP still never answered the question 'Did Apple say you would get an iPad or your money back?'. It's been made out to sound like Apple is taking his money and an iPad and skipping town.

Sorry for not answering you Carouser:
As far as I know, they don't know what's happening. I asked about getting refund and the rep stated that could be arranged, but I really want my iPad. I have waited for it this long so I guess I can wait a few more days. As long as it doesn't take another three weeks for me to get the thing.

Poor rep sounded stressed.

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks!
