It is not either or, thay are both inappropriate to me, but that does not mean I need to be "protected", I can chose what game I play, and what to watch, I do not need anyone let alone a company to tell me what I can watch or play.

To someone else phornography can be ok, I do not want them not to be able to watch it just because I don't....it's called freedom, and you can filter your contacts..

Yes, 100 % agreed ! Freedom is what this should be all about. As long as what we do doesn't violate the law, it must be up to each one of us what we want to watch or play. Not some private company !

Seems to me Apple is hiding behind a fairly weak strawman, Telegram is regularly in hot water because it's used (among other things) by terrorists/would-be terrorists and governments around the world would love to see it shut down.

Of course, you shut down Telegram and they'll just use something else; it's not just short-sighted, it's plain stupid - not to forget everything else that gets thrown down the drain along those alegations that Telegram enables terrorists.

And how does Apple's own iOS Safari live up to this? ;)

Wait for the toggle!!!

wtf. makes no sense ... any messenger, including iMessage could be used for in-appropriate content. what about Grinder or Tinder

I'm pretty sure there are people using iMessage for child pornography.

You may not need more information, but I do... for the very reason you state
Many things are transferred by Messages and through email and other apps yet they are still available
What makes this different?
Yes, I need more information to make a judgement about Apple's action here
It's worth noting that Apple's own rules describe the problem as "services that end up being used primarily for pornographic content". So that's why iMessage, Safari, etc. are allowed, as these apps are not used *primarily* for porn.

Two things:
  1. I'm not suggesting that's the specific reason why Telegram got blocked.
  2. I'm not saying I agree with Apple's puritanical standards. I personally don't think that sort of thing should be blocked if you're a grown up making your own choices, but hey, it's Apple's garden, they set the rules, and we're not forced to continue using their stuff if we don't like it (so "1984" comparisons are not really apt).

Hummm.... This app is still available on Android. Google hasn't pulled from its Play Store yet.

Not sure what happened but the reason seems weird. Hopefully we will have more updates afterwards.

LOL... A browser can be primary used for porn or anything that is against law.

And why would they? They're not puritans like Apple.

One more reason to jump ship to Android? LOL

Wrong. In this reference, the content is everything. Why else would they pull just this app?

What content that is inappropriate for the app itself... I don't see one. If user sending inappropriate content, then why Apple decided to pull this app?

Content is irrelevant for this one. Because the app itself has no inappropriate content.

Grindr tho ...

Apple's fear of sexual content is just sign of the bigger problem. Absolute negative perception of this content in modern society (almost everyone is watching it nonetheless) and inability to use parental controls properly by most parents. That's the reason why there is a note on the app's page in the App Store about inappropriate content and basically mechanism of turning it off in parental controls, but they are still removing it from platform.

In other words we don't need some higher authority telling us what is ok and what is not.

We already do. It’s called the government.

If Apple is in the business of approving what apps can be disseminated, they could be seen as complicit in the distribution of apps that enable distribution of child pornography, a communication system for terrorism and hate, and I’m sure more awful things.

Apple isn’t going to try to kill the photo sharing and online dating business. Let’s be reasonable.

Most likely this is due to copyright violations.

In my country it is more popular for movie and tv shows sharing than BitTorrent.

Funny people are up in arms about this when Apple has, for years, controlled what you can and cannot do with your iPhone.

I have to carry an Android phone to do my work because of Apple's ridiculously controlling "rules".

Kik should be pulled from the AppStore then as well. I've never had any issues with Telegram, but I've had issues with Kik. Full of scammers and spammers.

Just to note, I had the same rejection by Apple during my submission of one of my apps. This isn't about the service could be used for inappropriate content, but rather there is no way to protect the user from it.

The developer just has to implement a report/block button as a feature and thats it.

You guys must not use telegram because you have no idea what youre talking about. Its not just a messaging app like imessage. Its got tons of groups which are like the chat rooms of old. Full of stuff being spammed to group members who then can do little to stop it.

That is why it’s gone. The rules are pretty clear that users of apps with “user generated content” need to be able to filter what they get. Twitter and Facebook do it just fine. Telegram should update the app and then I’m sure it’ll be back.

Apple should shut down internet, it is filled with inappropriate content!

So stupid. 1984?

Something tells me the reason is a bit more complex then that. Somehow I get the feeling the Telegram founder may have info that does not like to share with you/us on his Twitter.
