Really lame. Weather Line and Dark sky have both died off and nothing has replaced them in my book.

Has anyone seen the Apple Watch complication for the weather app? Super hard to read. Total garbage. Getting weather on my watch was the most useful feature

RIP Dark Sky. You have definitely been one of my all time favorite and useful apps.
I feel the same, though Dark Sky had questionable accuracy in one of the areas in which I used it. The Apple Weather app UI/UX has a LONG WAY to go before it rivals the layout of Dark Sky.

As an aside, for those of you who have used Wunderground and more specifically, Storm, they recently "updated" the app which is a euphemism for "We decided to take away a feature that was free and charge you for it while calling it a Pro feature" (weather radar forecasting). Bite me. I'm so sick of the subscription business model.

I like dark sky and I paid for it. So I’m annoyed that it’s being shut down. And yes I know that concept isn’t new, but it’s still annoying.

Dark Sky isn't glanceable either. It actually shows less information than Apple Weather and requires MORE scrolling.

With Dark Sky, it's pretty instant. You can see the "Feels Like" and the temperatures (over ~14 hours vertically) all on the same view when you open it.

With the Weather app, it only shows about 6 hours of data horizontally, and I have to tap a few screens to get it to show the "Feels Like". I actually use the "Feels Like" a lot to get an idea how to dress up. The weather app is probably decent in most warmer climate areas, but I find it annoying to use in colder climates. I'm also not a fan of the UX as it's too many clicks to get around at times, and there's a lack of customization.

Right now I'm using "Hello Weather" as a substitute which seems to satisfy my checkmarks at the moment. I'm contemplating on paying for it straight up, but I want to see how they will transition away from Dark Sky data.

Such a bummer. While the new weather app is way better than it used to be, Dark Sky is still far superior. Time Machine will be missed. Also one of my biggest uses was for my Astrophotography and knowing exactly what time clouds were going to move in or be gone and the accuracy of it was very useful for me. The new weather app just can't compete yet.

I have used and valued Dark Sky since the iPhone 4, and certainly will miss it. That said, the hyper precision local forecasts have definitely been degrading for the past couple of years.

I really liked Dark Sky. I like the new Apple weather equally if not better. Better UI same core features.

Well to look at those consumer WiFi connected air quality monitors that that https://fire.airnow.gov/ shows for Montana some states lack a good localization of weather stat providers. Same can be seen via https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap for Montana.

What does that have to do with Apple's server issues. I stated that Weather.com shows accurate temperatures. Apple claims to use Weather.com as their data provider. But the numbers in Apple's Weather App do not match weather.com at all.

Sure, I'd be happy if the Wunderground map data was used for current conditions, but my complaint is that Apple's servers cannot even serve the data that they claim to be providing.

Dark Sky, the weather app that Apple purchased in March 2020, is set to shut down on January 1, 2023. Ahead of the planned sunsetting of the app, Apple is reminding users of the closure and has also published a support document highlighting the Dark Sky features that have been integrated into the Weather app to encourage Dark Sky users to transition to the built-in options.

The Dark Sky app functionality was added to the Weather app in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura. Apple has introduced down-to-the minute precipitation forecasts for snow and rain, an hourly forecast for the next 10 days, and weather modules that provide expanded information on humidity, precipitation levels, visibility, wind speed, and more.

There are high-resolution weather maps available, according to Apple, as well as hyperlocal weather forecasts. Apple has been warning of the upcoming Dark Sky shutdown for several months, but information is ramping up now that there are less than two weeks to go before app support ends.

Dark Sky is the only paid app I have on my phone and I use it several times a day. It is extremely accurate (as it uses radar data from the air base 3 miles away! I hope Apple Weather maintains the key locality of its features. No other weather app comes close.

RIP Dark Sky. One of my favorite weather apps. Dark Sky's UI was astonishing. I'm going to miss it :(
Dark Sky's UI was good, but far more than that, their support for an easy-to-use back-end with a restful JSON interface, made it possible for dozens/hundreds of other developers to experiment with weather apps easily - all the meteorological smarts were handled for you, and you could take your shot at the best way to display the data. In the end, I like my own display of their weather data a lot better than Dark Sky's, but I'm using their data (soon to switch to Apple's WeatherKit, which is almost the same).

Apple bought Dark Sky for their back-end, which has become Apple WeatherKit. They aren't required to label their own data as "Data provided by Apple WeatherKit", because, well, they are them. They're likely pulling some last remaining shred of data from weather.com, or they just haven't pulled the text, or, possibly, they're still under the provisions of some contract that requires them to acknowledge weather.com as a source until an end date, even though they've stopped using the data. I wouldn't take "provided by weather.com" as any sort of claim that they have to live up to, as you seem to be doing, rather, it's a disclosure they are/were contractually obligated to make. I expect it'll go away soon.

I remember when Apple’s sound design team cited Dark Sky as an example of outstanding app sound design during WWDC several years ago. The fact that they’re discontinuing it sucks.

Apple may have added Dark Sky functionality to the iPhone weather app but they screwed the pooch on the user interface. Dark Sky was intuitive and you could garner what the forecast was in a glance. The iPhone weather app requires routing around and multiple taps and scrolls to figure out what the forecast is for the next few days. Apple clearly blew it and they need to get rid of Dark Sky so everyone forgets what the perfect weather app was like.

The weather app is a mess honestly, and Apple's ego towards thinking they always know better that the users and developers is probably going to finally get me to switch, it's just not fun anymore

With Dark Sky it was easy to report the weather at my current location. With Apple’s weather, it would say “snow in 2 days” — while it was actually snowing!

Not clear how one tells Apple the weather doesn’t match their forecast.

I still recommend Carrot for those that like Dark Sky. Choose the "Inline" theme and it looks very similar to DS.

It's also very customizable. You can choose from a variety of weather sources. And I really like the radar widget for your screen. It's got a few extreme weather watch faces.

I basically coughed up the money for the subscription since nothing else gives that clean UI with total info like DS did.

Weather Strip is also a great app. I think one of the other main Mac sites listed it (along with Carrot) as the two to have.

All just my opinion. We all have them. 😂

I’m finding it annoying to have to drill down several layers to get any kind of information on the forecast, such as wind chill and precipitation amounts.
I have after drilling down some of the info that was so easily available on Dark Sky. Why they did this is beyond me. I have a dozen weather apps in a "Weather" folder and truly believe this is one of the stupidest things that Apple has ever done. In the old days they paved paradise and put up a parking lot. But this parking lot Apple Weather, is a total PIA to use

this is one of the weather apps I use to try to get as close to dark sky as possible, but it is still lacking. Rene Ritchie was right when he said "Apple Hates You"
