Thanks for the tip. Inline looks very close to DS, but you still have to press more screens to get the info you want

Dark Sky in its heyday was an astounding demo app, with very accurate hyperlocal precipitation notifications. But its accuracy gradually declined and the app's UI was neglected.

Despite few flaws, Apple's Weather app is one of the best built-in apps on the iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, with tons of details and snazzy UI. Its precipitation notification is not up to snuff and Apple really needs to improve and open up WeatherKit to high volume use.
Why as Rene Ritchie said years ago "Apple hates you" does Apple keep on trying to prove this was not just a snark remark. But this truly is the most depressing thing that Apple has done to me.

I prefer dark sky. I acknowledge the improved weather app but I want to see precipitation at same time as the temperature in the hourly view and I just like the way dark sky does it.

is your simple wish asking too much. here in the frozen tundra would love to see wind chills more easily, but we are all stuck in Apples ecosystem where they keep on making things worse and charging more! Would be wonderful if someone from Apple that could do something would read these things

Can we get someone from Apple to read the comments here?
Why does Apple hate us
Do they realize that people outside of Silicon Valley have different needs for weather forecasts than they do
Do they realize how much bad feelings they have created?
Tim Cook why do you like to piss off customers so much?

I’m not too bummed out, as far as I can tell it’s mostly an interface difference. What I really miss if Dark Sky’s old design: my favorite weather app design of all time. It had character to it I’ve not seen since.

This is my side by side of the two UIs. On dark sky I immediately see the weather radar. It’s off the bottom of the screen on Apple Weather. The rain chart is worse in Apple, Dark sky is labelled heavy, medium, light. Apple wastes a huge amount of screen space at the top just to make it look pretty.

Exactly this.

In the uk, I want to open the weather app and immediately see an all-day, hour by hour view of when it’s likely to rain, and the rain forecast for the next hour.

Dark sky did this so well.

The weather app takes some scrolling and multiple unintuitive taps. It’s a step backwards.

Yup, this is a great example. I will greatly miss dark sky

Apple's Weather app is definitely improving but there's a long way to go before it reaches the quality of Dark Sky. Just look at the precipitation graphics: Dark Sky is smooth, whereas the Weather app looks like something Atari would have done 20+ years ago, jerky and poor rendering. Come on Apple, you have the resources, make an effort!

I’m finding it annoying to have to drill down several layers to get any kind of information on the forecast, such as wind chill and precipitation amounts.
I live in Cleveland, Ohio where we get lots of snow (mainly due to Lake Erie's Lake effect). I find the new weather app largely useless in winter.

For example. We have a storm coming this weekend. On the Apple weather app, I see a cute little snowflake next to Friday and Saturday...which is meaningless. Will it be a dusting, or 3 feet of snow? Both are possible here, but would have a very different impact on my plans. If I dig into that day... then click on the percipitation mode toggle (which you apparently can't have as the default) then I see an estimate. That estimate varies significantly from any other app I have also dark sky, carrot (accuweather) and wunderground all show vastly different predictions here.

I will miss the nice visualization of precipitation amounts during the day being front and center, as well as the simple addition of how many inches of snow to expect in the 10-day view. On darksky, I see at a glance that friday morning will start with rain, then quickly transition to snow... plus I know to expect 4-7 inches (that's what she said).

Really sad to see this go. As nice as the UI in the new apple weather app is, it is hard to see the detail like precipitation forecasts without a lot of taps. And even then it seems horribly inaccurate, especially with snowfall. We got 20"+ of snow last week, and all I could tell from the app was that there was a 60-70% chance of snow through the middle of the week.
well - that's also partially because you're not reading the % chance correctly. meteorologists have different methods of coming at that number but in essence it's the confidence it will rain/snow a measurable amount and the likelihood of any given location within the forecast area.

so if the forecaster was 100% sure there is going to be rain but within a zip code (usually how the weather apps determine your location) only 30% certainty it will rain/snow in that exact location, the percentage chance based off your location is 30%. could also be that there's a 60% confidence level in rain/snow but only 50% confidence level of forecasted area - also 30% overall.

predicting the future is hard, the app reflects science guided predictions/guessing but nothing is certain.

I looked in the Weather app but don't see where I can set a recurring daily summary notification or sunscreen/UV reminder. I guess Apple just decided to drop support for those features from Dark Sky?

Dark Sky is such a well developed app with a broad feature set. No matter how hard they work at it, the Apple Weather app continues to strike me as basic and generic. One Dark Sky feature I'll really miss is the historical weather info in the Time Machine feature.

Dark Sky, the weather app that Apple purchased in March 2020, is set to shut down on January 1, 2023. Ahead of the planned sunsetting of the app, Apple is reminding users of the closure and has also published a support document highlighting the Dark Sky features that have been integrated into the Weather app to encourage Dark Sky users to transition to the built-in options.

The Dark Sky app functionality was added to the Weather app in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura. Apple has introduced down-to-the minute precipitation forecasts for snow and rain, an hourly forecast for the next 10 days, and weather modules that provide expanded information on humidity, precipitation levels, visibility, wind speed, and more.

There are high-resolution weather maps available, according to Apple, as well as hyperlocal weather forecasts. Apple has been warning of the upcoming Dark Sky shutdown for several months, but information is ramping up now that there are less than two weeks to go before app support ends.

If you don’t mind, send Apple some feedback about that. I’ve never used Dark Sky so I can’t compare ios Weather to it, but those of you that believe they fell short in integrating it will be appreciated for dropping them a line.

iOS Weather - Feedback

After desperately trying, and hating, pretty much every other weather app I could find... I am settled into Foreca Weather pretty contently. It has a decent Watch Complication, Lockscreen Widgets and excellent information on both the Watch and iPhone. Hello Weather was also okay.

I would sure like them to keep the web site running, very clean site with just the info you want. That's potentially a bigger loss for me than their app.

Ive used Dark Sky faithfully and will use it until its dying day! Nothing matches the feature set that is easy to access (IMO).... I hate 3 taps to find a feature that used to be "0" taps and right in your face! At any rate RIP Dark Sky!

I wish they'd just keep Dark Sky going for a year or so. Whilst they improve Apple Weather. How does it benefit Apple to end-of-life a popular app that keeps people using Apple iPhones?

How in the heck do you get rid of the news feed in the weather app?

If I want news i open the news app, I am in the weather app to check the darn weather. Like others have said this is going the way of the yahoo weather app.

Carrot is always awesome, but I like to check both carrot and Apple weather both at a quick glance. Apple is cluttering it up.

Seriously is there a way to remove news on it?
