To the lovers of wireless Bluetooth headsets. When I watch Netflix on my Reinta Macbook Pro I get intermitted audio drops and distortion probably due WiFi interference.

But dropping the iPhone headphone jack is a win, win win, and the future or so they said :-/

So question for you APod users, does the check for updates force it to look for new firmware or just have to wait for it to show up?

>The update to AirPods is automatic for any AirPods in their Charging Case and connected to a nearby iOS device.

When I put my AirPods in the charging case they disconnect from my iPhone. Still on 3.3.1

I put them in my charging case and opened it, so it remains connected. Still 3.3.1 though =/.
Mine updated in less than 15 seconds
1: Leave Airpods in case with case open
2: Verify Airpods are connected in Bluetooth settings
3: Go to Settings/General/About and look at for Airpods, which should appear immediately after SEID

I stayed on the General/About screen for a about 10 seconds, and my Airpods disappeared from the screen.
15 seconds later they reappeared with the updated firmware

EDIT: Subsequent to posting the above some posters further down have some additional info
Poster Jaekae post 53:
For those who cant update just listen to some music on them and after a while the music pause and airpods reconnects and you have the new firmware

Yup, that's exactly what I did and got the same result, with one caveat... Mine were plugged in, and didn't seem to update until the case's battery was charged over 50%. Maybe it was just random chance on the timing of that, but they seemed to update as soon as they were charged up to the halfway point. I suppose YMMV here.
EDIT: I am running the latest beta.

Side note: My Airpod case was at 53% when I did the update.

Thank you! totally worked!

Does this update fix them falling out of my ears?? Fingers crossed

If they fall out of your ears you should just return them. You do know that Apple allows returns, right?

The vast majority of people who've tried the new AirPods have reported that they do not fall out.

That's not a bug but a feature. If they stayed connected all the time, even when not in use, this would kill their battery life unnecessarily. But hey, if you complain loud enough maybe Microsoft will release a set of ZunePods featuring this option.

Ok what am I doing wrong? Lol

I bought mine from att and got 2 day shipping, and i'm not with att, not sure why people insist on waiting for 6 weeks, when you can get it in a few days.
The only reason that I want to buy them from the Apple Store is because I have gift cards.

This is not workin for me

Bit scared to update as I think I may be the only person in the world not having issues with their AirPods. Same thing happens with my iPhones. Perfect out of the box and until the first update. Then kablooey.

Was wearing mine just now looking to see how to force update. About halfway down the first page I heard the AirPod shutdown/disconnect sound and 5 seconds later the reconnect sound. They're updated! Running 10.3b1

I hope this fixes the issues I've been having being unable to reliably use AirPods for calls. I can be listing to music, get a call, answer it and hear nothing. I then switch to either speaker or the phone to speak... like an animal!
