MATTE screen option

Hope this time 13" MacBook pro comes out with the MATTE screen option. Reflection in Glossy screens is irritating.:D

Not sure I'll be buying another Apple notebook, after 2 logic board replacements and 2 faulty batteries.

Interested to see how they'll improve on the design, though. Aside from a lack of standard ports, there's not much I'd like them to change.

New production materials would be interesting. Liquid metal, carbon and Gorilla Glass 2. Also, a higher resolution, IPS screen.

Always good to hear of another with consistent issues with Apple laptops :).

2002 iBook - optical drive replaced;
2003 iBook - logic board replaced 3 times, eventually sold, acknowledged lifetime logic board repair programme;
2005 12" PowerBook - logic board replace twice, eventually sold cheap to a friend;
2008 15" MacBook Pro - logic board replaced once, acknowledged lifetime logic board repair programme, and 'replace battery' warning twice;
Late 2011 Dell XPS15 - no issues, and none expected.

Waiting on at least Haswell before looking at a Mac again ... so no one else should buy those, they're almost certain to be defective lol! But anyway, having everything in line at what is it ... 28nm? .. just has a nice aesthetic quality to it. I really hope they see their way to bringing 1080p on the 15", USB3 and an HDMI port - I only started hoping for blu-ray since enjoying them on the XPS so much, but that still seems to be a no-go for Apple.

so its changed again from the previous post a couple of hours ago :/ can we have some sustainable info please!

Prepare your $3G!

This is great news if it is true. I am holding out for this one, hoping for an April release instead of May/June as previously rumored. Until recently, I wasn't convinced that the Macbook Pro was worth the premium over other laptops. However, I was converted after a test drive at my local Apple store. If you are interested, I posted a short but detailed article about my decision to go Apple at my blog. BTW: 15" for me. Crossing my fingers for HiDPI!

YES! NO MORE USELESS OPTICAL DRIVE!
I'll be the first one to order the new 15' MBP! Been waiting for too long to upgrade my 2007 MBP!

Unless Apple removes all software from the shelf and put it online, there will be a need for the ODD.

We know that Apple has the best servers in the world that can handle ALL the downloads when they have something new that comes out and the world wants it at the same time!:rolleyes: Think back when Lion came out, when a new iOS comes out, what issues have you run into trying to download.

Maybe they'll make optical drives optional with BTO?

I'm being too hopeful

Did you have AppleCare?

Haha I knew it. Dual core 13" it is. I guess I shall wait until the summer. T minus 2 months starting now....

Damn! That's very unfortunate! Mine is also the late 2008 15"... luckily they upgraded me to the 2.66 from the 2.53 the second time. I worry that it's the nVidia 9400 GPU, which I've since learned has a faulty history.

What is the 'lifetime' logic board repair programme?

Fortunately, YES! Otherwise I'd of had to fork out £800 for the two logic boards.

I think that's the best thing about Apple. Laptops, not just MacBooks, can crap out at any time for no reason and I think Apple's the best when it comes to handling those situations.

Again, for those who need ODD, they can buy an external. It doesn't make sense for Apple to keep ODD in it for users to carry around when most users aren't even using it. Even the Mac Mini no longer has ODD, and it will be extremely unlikely for Apple to keep it in MBP.

I used my ODD in my 2007 MBP maybe around 10 times in total. And I finally decided to yank it out and put a 500GB HDD in place of it couple years ago. Never looked back. :)

Sounds perfect. I'm on target to hit the needed amount of cash my June - should be able to buy a brand new generation 13" MacBook Pro as my first ever Mac!

Also made my piece with no optical drive - would rather have bigger battery / hard drive / more RAM / thinner design anyway, and just buy an external.

It means when I go on holiday, I'll have ALL my films & TV shows without a suitcase full of DVDs.

Wirelessly posted

I personally dont think the Tech differs from the 15'',but the cpu of the dualcore ivy bridge are delayed,thats why!While the quad cores are ready to go.

Defly keeping an eye on the upcoming Mac upgrades. I think the idea of thinner MacBook Pro is an attractive idea, but if you take out the optical disk, the difference between the 13" MBP and the 13" Air is getting a little small for Apple's line up.

I think thinning the machines down is a great idea, but for those who want the optical disk, the MBP lines needs to have that function.

And of course the Mac Pro needs an upgrade terrible. The extra upgrade space in the Pro is great for a prosumer, but when the Mac Mini has a Quad core option for under a grand, while the cheaper refurb Mac Pro is still over 2K with super par storage, memory, wireless card, etc. But once Apple and Intel get their game together, while the Mac Pro will still cost a ton more, the difference should be justifiable for many more people.

(Personally, I'm waiting for Ivory Bridge to come to the MBA along with seeing how my Core 2 Duo MBA is holding up at that time, and a full sized desktop can wait until I'm out of undergrad)

Ivy Bridge CPU's that are out on late April start from 378$, there is no 13" suitable CPU at this price, so it's possible that 13" will come later.

If I understand correctly...make a 15" MBA for the people that don't want an ODD. And leave the ODD in the MBP for those that want that option. But, make the MBP thinner with newer and better guts!

Like someone else already said, I don't see Apple launching two MacBook Pro-line products with a 2 month time difference between them. Apple may prove me wrong, but I think that they'll announce both of them (13'' and 15'') sometime in May, that way they could launch the 15'', lets say, the next day after the presentation, while announcing the 13'' model to be available in the next 1 to 2 weeks (a.k.a. June).

But let's hope they launch them as soon as possible, can't wait to get my hands on the new 13'' MPB! :)

I think what the article is trying to say is that mass production of the new 15" laptop will start in April while the 13" will start in June, even though the 13" is more popular (there are more orders for it) ... possibly due to the fact certain technology won't be available until then.

In short, Apple is planning something big for the 13" MBP.

Or they're just planning on using dual cores for most of the 13" line, dual core mobile Ivy Bridge chips won't be available till June unlike the quads

I was very happy with my iMac and MacBook pro... Until I got the NEW iPad.

I can not believe how ugly non retina displays have suddenly become!

So I decided my next computer must have a 'hi-definition' display. But I still have hope for the next 13" revision.

No, new 17-inch ... my money is waiting Apple!!!

Btw: If you want more money, add an option for an retina display ~ +200$

Please don’t forget about the Mac Pro Apple! :)

Is that still an Apple product?? :)

I suspect the MBPs are going to head more towards the iOS path, and there maybe no place for the MB in Apple's future, hope I am wrong...... though I suspect apple is going to abandon the professional segment.

That's the spirit!
