From the article: "Apple has typically only used these low power CPUs in the MacBook Air line, but the MacBook Pro has been rumored to be adopting a thinner and more Air-like appearance.

Previous reports claimed that the new MacBook Pros will feature a thinner design without an optical drive. We've been hearing whispers about this kind of Macbook Air inspired design since April of last year."

I hope this is not true. If they do this the MacBook Pro certainly won't be the machine it should be. If they do this, what is to distinguish the two notebook lines? Leave the Superdrive where it is. When things are made too thin they overheat and need to use lesser powered components. The iMac is too thin now. This is why it has to use higher priced notebook components. And those components are more expensive and not as powerful as their desktop counterparts. And the iMacs still overheat because Apple places form over function.

If your iMac is overheating then you're either doing something wrong or you don't know what the heck you're talking about. As you can see from my signature, I have the top of the line maxed out iMac for almost a year and not a single so-called 'overheating issue'. The issue has been so many times when people claim their computer is overheating but when addressed these numerous times nothing of the sort was happening - your CPU getting to 70 degrees celsius isn't your computer overheating, if it was over heating it would automatically shut down before then to avoid hardware damage.

I really hope there would be an AWESOME REDESIGN for 2012 MBP!

As long as we do not loose even more ports along the way so that it looks cool. as long as it has USB 3 I am happy! running out of body parts to sell so I can afford TB accessories.

Don't believe this rumour guys, all Digitimes have done is made a story up based around the news yesterday about the new Intel chip release dates. Nothing else, frankly ANY of us could have come up with the exact same story.
Also note they have failed to mention the iMac even though the new CPUs for that were on the list too!!
I won't be surprised to see new macs arrive at the end of April but don't take Digitimes report as gospel.

Sorry but wrong, if you think that overheating is around 100 degrees Celsius, then while your CPU will auto shutdown at that temp, the other components inside your imac will die. Heat is one of the biggest killers in computers.

Not sure what you use your imac for, but good chance you are not stressing it. I was always sceptical of the iMacs ability to handle the heat actually, and when I bought mine got applecare with it. I have a 2010 iMac that I game on, its bloody hot to touch at the back, as it feels like it will burn your hand if your leave it there, but heck that is the way apple designed it so no probs I have given it a good workout.

So Far

1. LCD pannel has developed patches like dark grey areas
2. HD is failing - SMART warning saying it about to fail
3. Intermittent GPU errors

So its about to go back in again, and given they way its designed, the are basically going replace the LCD, HD and Logic Board, so I would say most of the iMac has been damaged and I would put it down the high level of heat inside it. 75 degrees long term exposure is bad.

My PC desktop that I built at about the same time, and with proper airflow, has not had any component issues.

Hate to spoil your rant but 70 degrees constant inside such a tight case is damaging. For anyone that does push thier imacs, get applecare, cause you will get parts replaced within its timeframe

If they remove, according to market speculations, the ODD, half of connectivities, make it pretty much just like the MBA, it's OK, because then they will be able to introduce a third line the ULTRA PRO Mac book, where they will put back all they removed and add new features. In fact, to keep away the snotty, weak people, it ill be OK to make it thicke, heavier and even ugly looking!
Also apple, while at the game, pay no attention to the few asking for some options (i.e. Matte screen) at extra cost. Those people are too few and they are going to screw up your quantities with their gaga and deep parents pockets. You got to lower all prices and stop playing dumb games like stealing the previously included remote and later selling it to us on the side. It is just silly and dishonest, so now, when you remove the ODD, and I know you are greedy, don't forget to deduct the cost of it. Also, just like you are always conveniently forgetting to pass these savings on to us buyers, when you further reduce the packaging dimension per toy, so you can stuff more of them per shipped container or box, and we see you do it, be nice to your patrons and again - share.

It seems to me that if they are ramping up 13" MacBook Pro (Airs) that it's quite possible that it will be replacing the 13" Air with it, and we will just have a MacBook lineup going from 11" - 17" (with 13" and 15" in-between)

I can not see apple having two 13" notebooks in effect overlapping each other.

Regardless, I'm very interested to see what they do with this, because it's going to be a toss up between a 13" MacBook (whatever they call it) and a 21" iMac for me :)

i dont really want a mac thats not a "pro" just to make it thinner. take out the optical drive, but dear god let me please still replace the ram myself

And it'll still perform better than your Windows Desktop.

I don't think theres anything wrong with your English, the article is using language that is intentionally vague so that they can't be blatantly wrong. I don't buy this since Apple would not release two products in the same product line more than 2 months apart.

Yup. The article is poorly written, which is a shame, as many articles are great here. I suppose this is more of a traffic bringer.

I dislike the phrase "ramping up". I wonder how many MR uses of it exist.

Maybe my English got worse, but I don't quite get it. From my understanding the article says Apple is producing the new versions of the 13" and 15" MacBook Pro. And the production of the 15" is ramping up. And the production of the 13" not - but it is still in production with reaching the highest production peak around june. Huh?

Thank you!

P. S.: That doesn't make much sense for me: Especially if they order a lot more 13"...

Trolling-times have an almost zero track record.

The funniest thing about the 13 inch macbook pro: Its the worst selling Apple laptop. Its the only Apple laptop that I constantly see at deep discount in Apple resellers stores. 25-30% off list price. Cheaper then Macbook Air.

The 13 inch macbook pro don't have a market segment since the AIR almost have the same hardware. A bit more CPU, 2.5 inch hard drive and an optical drive. 2/3 of those things are unimportant.

If Apple manages to put in a discrete graphics card in the 13 inches, then there is a reason for that product. But today = no.

I wish Digi/Trolling times stopped write stuff about Apple.

I hope there is an option for "RETINA DISPLAY".

Higher pixel displays is really important. We have been stuck at a time warp when we come to computer displays.
1999 Apple Cinema LCD 1600x1200. Todays laptops just have a bit more resolution.
2004 30 inch 2560x1600 is still unbeaten toady (if you disregard 200K dollars + EIZO monitors)

If Apple is ramping up production, parts would leak. Since we haven't seen high pixel count screens, it will probably be a later date for these.

The interesting thing is that the rumored graphic card in Macbook Pro Nvidia 660m supports 3840x2160 pixels. That would fit nicely with a higher pixel count displays on laptops. (double pixel count instead of 4 times like iDevices).

A retina Macbook Pro would be a smash hit.

marx or engels?

As the chips won't be available until late April, no new MBP until at least early May.

I'm waiting to see what happens to the iMac before I buy anything.

Totally agree. Unfortunately, I think Apple is going down the route of proprietary again. If they build the chips into the board, then they can totally exploit your wallet on the price of the upgrade. Picturing a $200+ upgrade from a 4GB to an 8GB system (when you can do it yourself for $30). Maybe $600 for 16GB RAM (when you can do it for $100).

One of the negatives of a company becoming so popular is that they get confident and even more greedy. $100B in reserves isn't enough.

On any laptop, the memory and hard drive should be upgradable and or replaceable for either pleasure or maintenance.

Hoping I am completely wrong.

Apple is pushing us into a post-optical drive computing world. Sure, people still use them, but fewer people are using them all the time, and people use them less and less. I remember when I used to rely on optical disks several times a day... now, I use an optical once every week, if that.

They should be trimming these notebooks all down into MacProPads. I guess it might cannibalize their iPad sales.
