Apple today released an updated version of iOS 17.6.1, with the new software coming a week and a half after the launch of the original iOS 17.6.1 update. The new version has a build number of 21G101, up from 21G93.

iOS 17.6.1 can be downloaded on eligible iPhones and iPads over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple's release notes, the iOS 17.6.1 update addresses an issue that could prevent the enabling or disabling of Advanced Data Protection. It is not clear what is different between the new version of the software and the original version.
This update includes important bug fixes and addresses an issue that prevents enabling or disabling Advanced Data Protection.
The Advanced Data Protection bug impacted a small number of users. Those who tried to turn Advanced Data Protection on and weren't able to get it enabled saw an error message and it was clear it wasn't active. Affected users who tried to turn it off saw it disabled in the interface, though it was actually still active for iCloud data.

Both of those bugs have been fixed in the update. iPhone users who had the bug that prevented Advanced Data Protection from properly turning off will see a notification that asks them to confirm the decision to turn the feature off after installing iOS 17.6.1. Apple says that the few users who experienced this bug had an expected level of security or more, in the situation where ADP did not turn off as expected.

Update: The re-released iOS 17.6.1 update is available over the air on devices that are updating from older versions of iOS, including iOS 12 and iOS 16. If you already had iOS 17.6.1 installed or another version of iOS 17, you will not see the update with the 21G101 build number, nor will devices that have iOS 13, iOS 14, or iOS 15 installed. It fixes an issue that could prevent access to Apple Fitness+.

I think I will wait for next weeks re-release.
I always say I'll wait, especially for WatchOS updates which seem to take me nearly an hour to install, but later in the day there's usually another post saying that the update also fixes something security related.

This… this is weird to say the least. Maybe they’re trying to patch the loophole that allows people to install Fortnite on non-US iPads?

Thankfully I was able to download the previous build. Now, I’ll wait to see how the new build behaves, battery-wise, and will decide which one to install on my devices.

I have se 3rd generation phone and the build number I have is 21G93 the new version isnt showing on mine yet? Maybe its only for certain phones

Re watchOS updates, try to initiate the update from the watch vs the phone, that should improve update times, well, it does for me…

I actually tried the Watch update a few minutes ago from the watch, but like previous time, it notifies me on the phone that it failed to install. Which makes sense, as it's on my wrist, so I'll put it on the charger and hope it works.

So people who installed the original 6.1 are screwed now? Mine has been buggy as hell. Phone is over heating, unlock animations keep glitching and battery is dying before I go to bed. Never happened before this update, on an iPhone 14 Pro.
Yup. You might as well trade your iPhone in for a Samsung. It’s toast!

Kidding of course. Just wait a few days till the next update. No bugs on my 14PM but maybe I got lucky

Apple have done this in the past... They released a public update then re-released the same version update with a different build number...

iOS 10.1.1 [14B100] - October 31 2016
iOS 10.1.1 [14B150] - November 09 2016

iOS 12.1.2 [16C101] - December 17 2018
iOS 12.1.2 [16C104] - December 20 2018

In the past, I updated to iOS X.Y.Z:
iOS 8.4.1, iOS 9.3.5, iOS 10.3.3, iOS 11.4.1, iOS 12.4.1

Since then, I only update to iOS X.Y:
iOS 13.7, iOS 14.8, iOS 15.8, iOS 16.7, iOS 17.6

I'll wait for iOS 17.7 or iOS 17.8

Well, I initiated the update on my watch just a few min ago, it was 158MB and it was downloaded within 10 or so seconds and then went into “preparing”, and once that’s done I’ll have to put it on the charger and for me ((Ultra2) it typically takes 5-10 min max to install/reboot

Update: put it on charger shortly after posting this and it was done installing about 15 min later when I checked, probably didn’t take that long, I just couldn’t be bothered timing it more precisely
