Too bad they "broke" the podcasting feature with that wretched, flaky app! Need to find an alternative.

Downcast.. I finally paid the $2 and switched. It works perfectly.

I stuck with the apple podcast app for way too long. It's amazing just how bad it is. Even after wiping my phone I had non-stop crashing. Either it would crash other apps (maps, safari, ...) while in playing in the background or it would just crashing for no reason while the screen was off/locked.

1. Don't crash, ever.
2. Show the correct chapter titles, not "chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3".
4.
5. Profit.

Podcast Recommendations

I am still shocked at the number of people I meet who have no idea what a podcast is or how to use them.

Thanks to Podcasts, I haven't listened to radio in years. Once in a rare while the radio in my car turns on, and I remember why I don't listen to it any more.

Some of my Favs:
  • This American Life
  • Security Now! with Steve Gibson
  • TWiT
  • The Economist (a daily summary from the magazine)
  • Car Talk
  • BBC From our own correspondents.
  • NPR Foreign Dispatch
  • The Adam Carolla Show
  • PRI The World in Words

I love podcasts, I listen to loads of them. They have almost entirely replaced traditional radio for me (excepting podcasts of traditional radio shows of course).

Hated the Apple Podcast app though.

More people should use Downcast. I think it is the single best app on the App Store.

No thanks to the WORST APP EVER the "pocast" app.

Which will single handedly drive me away from iPhone forever.

Or you could just pay the dollar or two for a great podcast app like Downcast or iCatcher.

Shame Podcasts app STILL doesn't work properly!

The Podcasts app still does NOT work properly though!

Podcasts added to iTunes on computer from non-Apple source DO NOT WORK properly on the iOS Podcasts app when synced to iOS devices.

Many users drag-into iTunes some old podcasts, making sure to change the Media Type to Podcasts, BUT they all show in a single folder with artwork all screwed-up in the iOS Podcasts app. Why??

It's been like this for months since the Podcasts app was released, yet none of the updates to the app have bothered to fix it!

Apple are bloody annoying all their Podcasts users, and don't seem to give a s hit by bothering to fix it.

Granted, I'm certainly willing to take that on board, there's a podcast subject on everything now, and some shows might float your boat, when it does not float mine.

However, Apple are recommending podcasts which are no longer actually being produced, or very, very rarely. Maybe they need to review more podcasts and see which ones are up to date and produce top quality content, not just the "usual suspects" like radio stations and newspapers. Only my opinion.

I'll get my coat.

With the gigantic plethora of podcasts available today, keeping track of everyone of them to monitor whether it's up to date and producing top quality content would be a monumental task. You'd need a whole new dept. of people dedicated to it. I doubt it is worth the time and trouble for Apple to do this. ;)
