Working 60-80% of the time sounds better than I'd expected - some of the Chicken Littles running around made it seem like it was all still vaporware.
And we are supposed to believe what he said? It could have been working 6-8% of the time and exaggerated as it is meant to be reassuring.

If the team had been working on it, why would they need a demo to know it works. Something in this article seems amiss….

"praised the hard work", you have to be kidding me. Someone needs to walk into Apple with sink in the hands and get rid of these unproductive people. Just look at the size of that building and the thousands who work there, and the small incremental innovation aside from new watch bands, and emoji's. Apple has fallen so far behind, they need major shakeups, not praise.

Why semi intelligent adults are having breakdowns due to change of schedule is beyond me.
Because "adults" especially ones over 50 who worked their life know what meeting deadlines and getting things done is about. 30 years ago we didn't need safe spaces and group hugs. You either got the job done, or got a different job.

I can fully understand that maybe the marketing team is at least partially responsible for this situation. Hyping up products that aren’t fully functional and trying to make software releases tee up with hardware.

This is a debacle plain and simple. For the management to have little to no insight how this is playing out is really telling. They promised a fully functional product in iPhone 16, advertised it as a selling point and failed to deliver completely. Instead they gave us more dumb emoji and some half assed generative playground tools for 5 year olds. It took them 5-6 months to acknowledge their advertised product would not be delivered as promised only after they kept missing all of their deadlines. The entire Siri and AI management division needs to go, along with Tim Cook. He sucks really bad. He's turning Apple into an iterative cash cow and not a leader in innovation. Upcoming iphone 17 is ugly and doesn't look exciting at all but they're talking about bringing in an ultra version and charging even more for it. Very sad.

I do not understand why everyone is upset, If a product is not up to standard don't put it out, keep working on it to get it working the way you envision it. Unless you are in charge of Apple hold off on negative comments until you know the whole story, let's stay positive and wish for the best outcome.

Tim Cook should step down. I don’t say that purely to be malicious or capricious. I think his leaving Apple would help Apple regain a little bit of credibility.

But I also think Tim should retire because he was too focused on Apple Vision Pro to give Siri and Apple Intelligence the attention and resources they desperately needed.
Go outside and touch some grass.

That's about where I'm at. It would be cool if Siri was fully able now but I'm not desperate for the new features. For some uses there are still other AI agents and doing some things manually on the phone that Siri could help with someday isn't a big chore. I got what I mainly needed from my 16 pro. So move your ass Apple, but I'll live in the meantime.

It's because they promised a fully functional apple intelligence and upgraded Siri, neither of which materialed and they advertised it as a selling point of the iPhone 16 lineup. You see how that might upset a lot of people?

I’m with you on this. To me it’s a delay not a disaster. But people have a right to hyperbolic opinions.

This is ****ing embarrassing (also is there a way to uncensor swear words on Macrumors?). Apple is one of the richest companies on the planet and they can’t get Siri right. The personal context features promised at WWDC are already available on the Samsung Galaxy S25 lineup but we Apple users have to wait another whole year. Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave right now. He would’ve fired everyone in the AI department, scrapped Siri, started it over from scratch, and got it right this time. The fact that Apple’s current department has just given everyone hugs and said they’re doing fine is just a depressing implication for the future of the company. Steve would’ve been hard on everyone, but at least he got things right

Will Apple reassure its paying customers and investors by firing some executives responsible for this mess? If Forestall got the ax over Apple Maps then another high level exec needs to lose their jobs over this debacle. Apple arguably didn’t, and still doesn’t, need a built in Maps application. Google Maps works just fine. AI, however, is much more than you can get with just an app. Unlocking its power requires OS level integration and with as much cash as Apple has on hand there is no excuse for falling behind and staying behind. Siri itself was an acquisition. So go do it again.

That is the only thing I want to hear out of Cupertino on this. The clock is now ticking. I’ll be looking at buying a new premium smart phone this September and will be taking a hard look at what Google has to offer. I’ll likely stand pat for another year but if by 2026 they don’t have new hardware that presents a satisfying upgrade including a new version of Siri that actually works and can do 75% of what the competition is doing in the AI space then I’ll seriously considering a smart phone from somebody other than Apple for the first time since 2007 when I waited in line and spent over $700 on the OG iPhone with data at blazing fast Edge speeds. LOL…. 😂

Wow. 👀 I remember back in the day when Jim Dalrymple was pretty pro Apple. I remember when Apple Music first came out and he had issues with it and Apple brought him to HQ to get his issues resolved.

I remember back in the he also cried like the immature b**ch he is about how Apple Music “deleted” all his music. And it didn’t.

To me, it's a 13 year delay which equals disaster!! ;)

Apple totally missed the boat on streaming until they suddenly didn't and Apple Music is a perfectly fine competitor to Spotify. Likewise they totally missed the boat on watches until the Apple Watch came out and made everything else obsolete...etc, etc, etc.

It'll be fine, agreed.
Apple is hemorrhaging money on streaming/original content, in the billions, while hardly making a dent in market share. There is no product in Apple's pipeline to supplant the iPhone as the new cash cow. Fleecing existing customers for profits through services like iCloud won't last forever. Because 1) antitrust lawsuits will eventually force Apple to open online storage to competition, and 2) Chinese phones will only get better. They're already the dominant brands in China, India, Africa, South America, and parts of Europe. As soon as China catches up in semiconductor tech in 4 to 5 years, Apple will go the way of Sony.

It isn't fine now, and it won't be either.

They sold a product with promise that Apple Intelligence with revamped SIRI would come with IOS 18 later this year(2024). That too, the so called AI will work only with iPhone 15 Pro series and iPhone 16. That means, I am sure that a lot of people who were using iPhone 14 and 15 have changed their phones unnecessarily. When Google can release Gemini to all 3-4 years old Android flagships, Apple was restricting to just 6 models.
Perhaps it is time to come to the stage and say that world's most valuable tech firm have failed to deliver what they have promised to their customers.
