They didn't misinterpret the post, they just fell for the "apology."

I disagree. Maybe his words were poorly chosen and thus easily interpreted as sarcastic and mean. But real bigots are not so quick to apologize. If Lordskelic really meant, "typical, cook. he prolly only doin' this cuz he a f-g!", he wouldn't be bending over backwards to apologize for being MISINTERPRETED.

he may only be 17, but i seriously think he knows the difference between the demographics of macrumors vs. the Westboro Baptist Church forum. if he only said it to be a complete dick and to express hatred, he wouldn't care about the criticism. he would have expected and revelled in it.

just my 2 cents.

P.S. i'm making the sexist assumption that Lordskelic is a dude. i actually don't know/remember.

Yeah, I'm a dude. Thanks for standing up for me. I noticed that lots of other made remarks similar to mine, and they didn't get jumped on like me. (Not that I particularly care.)

I'm confused, they've done this before... for a long time. Why are people surprised? Because they're making a sliiiiightly bigger deal out of it than before?

(RED) is not a charity

please correct your article. (RED) is NOT a charity, it is an organisation run in partnership with companies (such as Apple), that gives a percentage of its profits to Aids related projects. Big difference.

That's completely wrong, ignorant, and biased.

No, just a much higher risk of contracting it.

Being gay does not put one at a higher risk of contracting aids - that's ignorant nonsense.

Unsafe sex with multiple partners for both straights and gay, sharing needles, and some other practices increase your risk.

Two HIV-negative gay men in an exclusive relationship are at no higher risk than the general "safe-sex" straight public.

Just what we need... more people with AIDS. Thanks a lot Apple.

:p

Beyond offensive.

Possibly. But here's the core issue: successful AIDS treatment does not already result in a "normal" life. Success is measured by restricting the spread. That is, and should be, the primary goal. But the side effects from the medications are horrible for some people. I'll break it down, cause I know most people don't know this stuff. I didn't.

So there's a whole slew of treatment combinations you can use. And there are also different strains of AIDS. My brother has a strain of AIDS that is resistant to the least harmful medications. So money isn't so much a factor here, it's that AIDS is constantly mutating and some people have it worse that others-- literally. You also have to be careful that you don't build up an immunity to the medication. Some medications are needed at different stages of the sickness, too. And, again, they all have side effects that bypass a lot of people, but hit others. The worst are massive G.I. problems, dementia, bone loss to the point of no longer being mobile, cancer, etc. In my brother's case, his strain is resistant to the more mild medications and so now he has to take the hard core Protease inhibitors.

So what I hope for is an expansion or research that can treat individuals with the more aggressive strains. More money where the research is done (America) does that. But, again, I am in no way arguing against helping the destitute and relatively far worse off people of Africa. But if we're ever really going to help people live with it, or even cure it, we need funding for research in addition to funding for prevention programs. And, yeah, my reasoning is a little selfish ... but I really wouldn't want a family to go through what we are going through.

This is total BS. I am HIV+ and have been for several years. I live a totally normal life. I work, I exercise, I go out to bars with friends, I travel, I drink when I want, I do everything you would expect any other 'normal' human being to do. Just because your brother has had a bad experience with his infection doesn't mean that HIV/AIDS is generally that bad. Because of people like you spreading the bad stories, people like me are discriminated against, and you make it harder for me to keep up my normal life because people treat me differently for no reason.
The worst part of being HIV+ is the reactions I get from other people when they know I am positive. Often they either give me sympathy (which I don't want, there is nothing wrong with me) or they are afraid of me (which is ridiculous I'm not going to infect anyone).
In 2011, it is entirely possible to live a normal life with HIV and this should be expected. Please stop spreading horror stories.
