Apple not is doomed though. Really, did you see how many iPhone X were sold? Certainly the iPhone has not died. Did it really sell more than 8/8+? No one knows but because we can trust Tim Cook, it doesn't matter!! Why would Apple have to release all the figures (like some other companies)?! They are not hiding anything!

Apple is not doomed. Alphabet and their privacy snooping Pixel line can get lost, which sold a "pitty” 3.9 million in 2017!

I love you Apple and your walled-garden stuff!!

I wasn't sure if you were joking so I hope you don't mind. I FTFU ;)

The iPhone is not necessarily “Made” by Samsung. The iPhone incorporates components from Samsung being a supplier, (I.e.)-OLED display, Nand Flash, A-Series Processor. Apple still manufacturers their own iPhones, but other supplier components still contribute.

Re-read my post; I never said Samsung manufactured any iPhones, I said "half of every iPhone is made by Samsung" implying that the other half was made by someone else, incidently nothing actually made by Apple. Apple basically dont manufacture anything, they buy components manufactured by others and pay someone else to assemble them.

Anyone who doesn't like it can go back to using telegrams.

No,but how about pick one from many many cheaper products? Let me guess. You probably want what's best for you. Of course you would love it dirt cheap, I mean what customer wouldn't. Because companies make these things out of nothing.

I never said Samsung manufactured any iPhones, I said "half of every iPhone is made by Samsung".

Your wording wasn’t appropriately conveyed. For the record, I never mentioned the word “Manufactured” either in my post, you stated that. However; you stated this originally:

Given about half of every iPhone is made by Samsung

Again, that’s not accurate, even though you’re trying to clear the misconception from your wording. I simply iterated that Samsung is a component supplier amongst other component manufacturers, Which the iPhone is not “Made” by Samsung.

It's my own choice to buy Apple products but I would be a lot more happy about it if they were a bit cheaper.

Sure, i would love to buy a Mercedes at the price of a Kia. But if you want the best product with best service, then you got to pay to play. Don’t forget that Samsung Note 8 or Pixel 2 XL are not that much cheaper than their iPhone counterparts. Same goes for HomePod vs. Google Max. The same goes for Apple Watch, Airpods, etc..

Why are you here?

Sarcasm dude. I am just quoting what others have criticize Apple for.

I wasn't sure if you were joking so I hope you don't mind. I FTFU ;)

Yup.

Did you know that Qualcomm outsourced their manufacturing to TSMC (and sometimes Samsung)? So, does that mean that Qualcomm does not get credit?

Apple pretty much design everything and they have either Foxconn or other OEMs make it for them to their specs. Even the Samsung display in iPhone X is unique from Samsung’s own phone (Note 8/S8) displays.

Given about half of every iPhone is made by Samsung...I'm not so sure that they are that worried about being "second"

Half? Wow, that’s a lot. You have a teardown that shows this? Because the ones I’ve seen only show the screen from Samsung. Everything else isn’t.

Wasn't it not too long ago that Apple had 90% of revenue in the telephone market, or was that 90% of profits? Also, is this just hardware or do they include services riding mostly on the iPhone, such as the App Store or Apple Music in this number?

Music in the investors ears not the consumers!

Good for consumers as well. High iPhone sales, especially the more expensive models, is what drives developers and aftermarket accessory makers to create new products for them. That benefits all users of those devices.

Unless you're a stock holder why are most of the commentators here so happy to pay kind of monopolistic prices?
Did you happen to notice all the other choices from other companies that consumers have for cellular phones? Where's the "monopoly?" If a person needs/wants an automobile, they can buy a Nissan Versa that costs $13,000 and they can buy a Tesla S that costs $100,000 and everything in between. Both the Nissan and the Tesla will get you to a destination. Its the same with phones, there's Motos for $300 and there's I-Phone X for $1,000 and everything in between. I am both a consumer and a small Apple stockholder. My dividend checks from Apple pay for my Apple product purchases in any given year. Its nice having Apple pay me to use their products!

Why exaggerate? I said a bit cheaper, not less than half the price. I've been buying Apple products long enough to know they are never going to be cheap but recent price hikes over the last few years have made me question whether they still offer good value for money. :(

Perfect example of customers paying too much. Nothing wrong with making profits but quality, cutting edge technology should also be included when making that much. Caring and listening to your customers too. Just saying.

Really, wow show me your tear-down and Ill show you mine!

It is common knowledge that the screens, RAM and in most models the CPU is made by Samsung [not always exclusively however]. Then add in that Camera modules [from Sony, also source some components from Samsung[ and Qualcomm radios also come from Samsung [again not exclusively], a lot of an iphone [and many other phones] directly and indirectly come from Samsung

Let’s compare a few products:

HomePod $350...Google Home Max $400.

Airpods $160...Google buds$160 (and ****** as hell!)

IPhone X $999. Note 8 $940. Pixel 2 XL $950. Granted X only has 64GB.

X has: beautiful design, top notch display, top notch processor, top notch camera (tied with Pixel), 316L stainless steel band, glass & sapphire the rest. Long term software support and great customer service.

Pixel 2 XL: ****** design, bad display, OK processor, top notch camera, average materials. Long term support (not as good as Apple) and questionable service.

Note 8: good design, top notch display, OK processor, good camera, good materials. Questionable long term support and even more questionable service.

$50 difference...yeah, i would gladly pay that. You?

Actually, more than 100% of profits at times. How can you make more than 100% of all profit? If others make _losses_, so the total industry profit is less than Apple's.

No, you cannot make more than 100% of the profits. That idea was just a stupid reporter math fail. The only reason it sounded good at the time was that the losses were just the right size to make click bait.

==========================
Example of how stupid it is to sum profits
and losses across the industry to create
a percentage of just profit:

===============================

Apple makes $9B
Samsung makes $1B
Others lose $20B
-----------------
Sum : -$10B

Therefore by stupid blogger math, Apple made $9B/-$10B = "MINUS 90% of the profits". Which makes no sense. And that's because the number that idiot reporter was using was NOT the "total" profits, but the sum of the profits and losses for the entire industry.

The correct way to report the above is that Apple made 90% of the industry profits, Samsung made 10% of the profits, and all others in total lost $20B.

It's even worse if it adds up to zero.

I'm not...we are talking all iPhone models, not just the X...remember, they Apple still sell the SE, 6,7,8 and [Plus] - it is not by coincidence that when Apple has record quarters, so do Samsung Semi-conductor. In any event, google is your friend and if you look enough you will see that even on the X, Samsung make the NAND flash memory chip and DRAM chip, the screen and the A11 processor.

I'm not bothered by Samsung and Google products, I have zero interest in them. My gripe is about like for like prices for Apple products over the last few years.

Inflation...or whatever it is called. Apple prices go up as OTHERS also go up. I would love to buy an iPhone X at same price that i bought my iPhone 5s in 2013. Who wouldn’t?! But is that realistic? No. You have to compare their pricing with their competition.

A11 is made by TSMC.

As a consumer, it's music to my ears. Apple makes the best gadgets in the industry and has the best customer service, bar non. Investors would not be winning without millions of happy customers.

Common knowledge? Then it should be easy for you to show a couple sources.

You’ve never heard of iFixit?

On the latest iPhones, the RAM is from SK Hynix. The flash is Toshiba. The CPU is TSMC, though it’s Apple designed (which is the most important part). All I see from Samsung is the OLED screen in the iPhone X.

You mean consumers who are "forced" to buy products?

I never understood this notion that consumers are "forced" to buy products. Were you forced to buy an iPhone or any Apple products, Samsung, LG, Sony? You mentioned there are cheaper options as a reply to another comment but do you own any of the "cheaper" options and would never buy another Apple product until they lower their prices? People have choices and they choose to buy a product because it works for them or it's their preference. Are you gonna claim Batterygate "forced" people to upgrade their phones? That's a bit cynical isn't it?
