For all the talk of record sales. I still haven’t seen a X in public. I work at a major hospital that is very Apple centric. They offer Apple Watch for a discount. I see iPhones and watches everywhere. Never a X.

First time I’ve never seen the newest phone his long after release.

Unless you're a stock holder why are most of the commentators here so happy to pay kind of monopolistic prices?

Lots of other people (parents, other relatives, etc.) probably hold some AAPL stock in their diversified retirement savings and other investments, etc. You want them to go broke? Or do you feel entitled. and want big companies to give you desirable stuff (new Ferrari, etc.) for free?

Perhaps I'm not presenting my question correctly but everything you've mentioned appears to answer the question "What improvements does the iPhone X offer over the iPhone 8" and not the "what are you able to do with the iPhone X that you can't do with the iPhone 8".

When it comes down to basic capabilities, there not much more you can do on an iPhone 8 (or X) than you can't do on an iPhone SE (or even earlier models). Some people simply prefer better, if not more things it can do.

But... some kids now think sharing Animoji karaoke vids on social media now an essential life necessity.

I wonder if the sales figure accounts for the number of iPhone X's returned by customers'. In my history of buying Apple products, this was the first time I returned something. I just couldn't get used to the smaller screen when compared to my 7+.

So far, no refurbished X for sale. Plenty of 7’s.

+1 I'm dying for a "iPhone X Plus". I miss my old Plus size screen. Every time I see someone using a Plus in public I'm a bit jealous.

You mean your jealous of my iPhone 7 Plus? Thats the funniest thing I have heard on here. This truly speaks to the world we live in.

I bet you were very excited to unbox your shiny new iPhone X, and thought it was the greatest thing since the iPhone 7 Plus . Then after a few weeks the new exciting shiny object started to feel just like the old one, but it was really worth 1200 dollars because it had a new way of unlocking the phone without a finger and its newest feature, NO Home Button, oh and don't forget the amazing screen, because that old screen on the iPhone 7 was horribly pixelated. I can't believe that tech was even put in the iPhone 7 /s

In all seriousness, The smart phone era has reached its peak of technology revelations, and your new iPhone does exactly what my old one can do, but Marketing well try to convince you otherwise.

My friend that paid 1600 Canadian for his new iPhone X, sends me Face ID emojis and I always reply....now thats worth paying 1600 dollars !!!

I am keeping my iPhone 7 plus for another year or 2, until the iPhone X Plus comes out and the notch is smaller.

I agree. I have my 7+ and love it. Works fine for my use. I usually upgrade every year, But the prices are now insane. I will look at the new larger X when it comes out, but unless it blows me away I’ll probably stay with my 7+.

I’m also really hoping that iOS 12 is much better. iOS 11 was disappointing. It’s getting there but.... please give a phone that is properly powered(better battery) and running relatively bug free. Please Apple.

Wow, now they're up to more than half of revenue. They've been commanding more than 90% of the profits for years.

Hmm.... these numbers are always skewed. Everyone else already released their flag ships and were months into their sales cycles. I would hope they would have those numbers in a quarter without any major competing releases.

Notching out the X after the 8's helped that momentum too. Seriously though, most other OEM's are not releasing in the iPhone time frame because it always makes them look bad when they do.

Perhaps the ones whose two-year old phones suddenly can't even type letters without lag and don't want to buy a phone from a data company... ;)

You mean like my old iPhone 5 that is still working perfectly fine?
Or like my niece's iPhone 4s?
Luckily i don't have any of these issues. I got to be one of the hundred millions ;)

Ah yes, the phones that mysteriously don't have any battery issue that "requires" secret throttling of the CPU, despite using the same batteries and being much older. ;)

Mysteriously? To me this is a bunch of crap already. Is just another way of whining. Hundred of millions have better things to do then just gripe about stuff and making a non issue, huge issue. Good thing is I am not the CEO of Apple (or any other company for this matter) because I will just pull my middle finger to whiners. It really doesn't matter how good or bad the product could be, there will always be whiners and lawsuit lovers (like the hot drink being to hot, transparent glass being to transparent, hardware not staying new forever - you get the ida)
And it is kind of pointless to argue about the limitation of lithium batteries anyway. Idiots would expect these things to live longer then their grandparents, on the top of that, hardware to work just like the first day when they bough it + all the new software features developed.
Crazy world and at the same time funy!

I am always baffled by Apple fans being happy about that .. it literally means you/we paid much more for our devices than industry standard; it means you/we got ripped off. A
And no, it is not because Apples superior quality or R&D or software or service .. the bulk of that overpayment ends up on Apples gigantic cash pile somewhere.

Apple shareholder on the other hand could potentially be happy about it .. although they also see only mighty little of that money .. again gigantic cash piles.

I would love for Apple to take that money and do something revolutionary with it .. take some risks, enter a new market, fix their f****ng software .. having it lying around like that is just a waste.

Dude .. they secretly throttled the device speed .. I can barely think of a better reason to be upset.
Besides .. nobody is complaining about the battery loosing performance .. it is the secret software throttle to prolong battery life that is the point of complaint.

If it were such a "none-issue" and "normal" .. Apple wouldn't have to be secretive about it would they.

You can create a strawman argument all you want, I clearly indicated past iPhones have used SamSung components. You don't need to convolute the discussion with non-debatable semantics that have nothing to do with my prior post that were completely accurate and you want to bury the fact that you interjected the iPhone X into the argument, Which had no relevance to my post whatsoever from the beginning. The fact is, the iPhone has used SamSung components before in the past and we don’t need to refer to iFixit teardowns just to prove to that. Nor is that in relation to anything when I had to say about an iPhone using Nand flash, OLED display, A-Series processor. Reality is, you misquoted me bringing the “iPhone X” into the discussion that had nothing in relation when I said “iPhone” in general.

Also, for the record, I’m not insinuating anything about Samsung having dominance over the iPhone or anything of that matter, I was strictly talking about they have contributed components to the iPhone in the past. You’re entirely going on a different tangent. I think this discussion is more than enough exhausted.
I do admit I brought the iPhone X into the discussion; however, you said NOTHING about "the past".

So, if you want to go back to the first couple of iPhone models, yes, Apple used more Samsung components; but when Apple started to suspect that Samsung was ripping-off their intellectual property contained in the Ax SoCs, Steve Jobs insisted that Apple's engineers NOT use Samsung-sourced components whenever possible, and that Samsung was no longer on the list of fabricators for Apple's Ax SoCs.

But, the real problem here is that You're just pissed-off that I was so readily able to dispute your argument with a few incontrovertible links to iFixit teardowns. Those prove my point going back at least to the iPhone 5, released more than 5 years ago, and no doubt DESIGNED 2 to 3 years before that.

So what's next? Are you going to insist that Apple is beholden to IBM and Motorola for the CPUs in their computers, because the last systems with PowerPC CPUs were sold by Apple in 2006?

And there always people who will defend at all costs. No matter what.

This is not about Apple. Not defending Apple and I know Apple does quite a lot of mistakes as a company. This is just my general opinion on customers expectations and companies. I think some people are like sheeps. Someone comes up with a cleaver idea of stirring stuff to spark e media frenzy which then blows things out of proportion and then you got a hit story. Happens all the time.

I totally agree that they should have been opened about it but what I don't get is what's so freaking big deal? Ok, your phone performed few nanoseconds slower or whatever, to prevent your phone shooting down when your were doing that important call or take that photo/video of something that you had only one chance to do it. Yes, Apple should have done what other companies do. Let the phones die as their battery degrades, and buy new ones. I don't get to see in a wilde other smartphones as old as iPhone 5 still being heavily used. That on itself should tell you something.
I personally think battery life is more important then performance as sometimes can be a matter of emergency, but Apple should have not made that choice themselves. You really can't win using a logic sometimes.

People are upset. Lately Apple seems to have a “lack of focus”. Things don’t work as they should out of the box. The pre Cook Apple seemed to put more thought into how the devices worked. Yes there were bugs. But functionality was as promised upon opening the box. Now not so much. Apple now has the same problems as android. It’s not so simple anymore. The advantage Apple has is total control of hardware and software.

The throttling issue was a huge blunder. People get stuck on the battery part of the equation. That part is understood. It was the failure to replace battery’s that were defective. Too late to say ok now we will tell you the truth. They got caught

The big deal is that the phone is not "a few nanoseconds slower" .. it is borderline unusable at times in particular when doing multiple things at once and it can be simple things such as listening to music when a call comes in.
Also, Apple should warn people more actively if the battery is broken (currently there only is a very tiny note on the battery settings page, no active information).

I think you can't win using shady tactics .. logic would dictate that people become upset when their phones are slowed .. seems fairly straight forward to me.

Re-read my post; I never said Samsung manufactured any iPhones, I said "half of every iPhone is made by Samsung" implying that the other half was made by someone else, incidently nothing actually made by Apple. Apple basically dont manufacture anything, they buy components manufactured by others and pay someone else to assemble them.

The reason being manufacturing is a piss poor business. Apple designs their own hardware for the most part and let others take care of the thin margin manufacturing. IBM sold off their manufacturing, as did AMD a while ago.

Some people are upset and that has never changed. For many of us things worked as expected (imo) and I expect a large percentage of people to be happy with Apple products.

The throttling issue a minor thing. Pre-Cook Apple had its share of issues and they are far and away from having any of the “issues” android has. Apple will be better, the software will be better for it.

Apple will loose some customers over it. There always is churn. They will also get new customers.

I along with many others disagree about the throttling issue. Time will tell. I do think Apple will recall these battery’s eventually.

There are so many Apple customers, can’t tell. Whether or not batteries get replaced or recalled is separate and apart from the discussion to apple’s “reputation“.
