40% gross margins ?

Wow..

Sell some stuff cheaper now guys.

What are you comparing them to?

Apple's margins have increased from 30% to 40% largely on the basis of the iPhone. Consumers aren't even paying the iPhone margins. They come from the carrier subsidies for the most part.

The iPad number was a big disappointment. Unlike a phone which everyone has, not everyone needs an iPad. Many are sticking with laptops and don't want to spend money on two devices.

I agree that iPhone sales will continue to grow but the recent (last year) growth in the stock price was directly related to the new iPad business whose growth rate may now be slowing down.

Do note that it takes Samsung - currently the top Android box-maker - 1 year and 7 months to sell nearly as many Galaxy phones as Apple sells iPhones in little more than two quarters.

iPhone 3GS. "Free" (with 2 year contract... And getting almost to a reasonable price without contract.)

The ole 3GS over the holiday season might just be a real sleeper in boosting next quarters iPhone units number.

How many times do you have to be told THAT number isn't apples to apples.

There are MANY Android phones in the marketplace. There is ONE iPhone sold by Apple.

You don't need to skew the results. Apple did well this quarter. Why you feel the need to drag android/samsung into this is beyond me as it reeks of insecurity.

"Apple also sold 11.12 million iPads during the quarter, up 166 percent over the year-ago quarter"

Thats a disappointment ?

166% increase ?

What do you want a 300% increase ?

Apple posted record iPad sales, 11 million. The previous record was 9 million.

Yes, in only a single quarter. That's over twice as many as Mac sales in a typical quarter.

As far as the tablet competition goes . . . there isn't any. Their numbers in total barely register by comparison. It's very much turning out to be an Apple-led Post-PC era, with an ever-expanding iPad market (while the rest of the market is actually contracting.)

Yes, one tablet to rule them all, it seems.

I'm pretty sure it is exactly apples to apples. One phone model to one phone model. It just isn't the comparison that you personally are interested in.

24.7% tax.

Apple pays more tax then MSFT (7%) and Google (22%)

Do they have better tax layers?

Apple Insider had a rumor this morning that Apple "only" sold 13 million iPads. Analysts had been targeting 40 million sold in calendar 2011. They'll need to sell 19 million this quarter to hit that, and the Kindle Fire is coming out next month.

Sure I am - I'm all Apple.

But I disagree. The comparison is how many Samsung phones were sold vs iPhones. Fact is - it's not just about phones - it's also about the OS.

If you want iOS - you HAVE to get an iPhone.
If you want Android - you have dozens of phones to choose from.

It's not a real value comparison.

Yes. It was a record but missed target.
The growth is not at all as fast it should be.

Even if there is "no competition" to iPad so did Android have almost 40% market share. Some of the people who bought for example the Playbook would have bought an iPad instead.
