Is the memory user upgradeable?

The memory in the 27" is user upgradable but it also appears the new 21.5" is also upgradable after purchase since this is what the Apple website has to say; "Note that the 21.5-inch iMac comes with 8GB of memory built into the computer. If you think you may need more memory in the future, it may be preferable to upgrade at the time of purchase. Memory can only be upgraded by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider if you choose to update at a later date."

That means that those of us who are comfortable opening up imac computers can upgrade the memory at a later time and not be forced to decide at time of purcahse to pay a kings ransom to Apple for extra memory.

Well I am sure the iMac Pro will have multiple TB3 controllers and more ports so if you need that level of connectivity, you might also need high-core CPUs and more powerful GPUs.

... yes, the iMac Pro specs are up and it has 4 TB3 ports (2 controllers) and (in a sudden outbreak of common sense) still has 4 USB-A ports, Ethernet (10Gb!) and SD-card.

the iMac Pro full aspects should last easy 10 years. If I still using my 2008 Mac pro... but my 2008 Mac pro was $3K back then. The iMac Pro will be $9K to say the least.

Bring on the complaints about iMac Pro prices from people that have no real reason to need the power it offers.

"This Porsche 959 is far too expensive!"

apples and oranges lol

a mac isn't a porsche. keep dreaming. a poor college kid can buy a mac. he'll never be able to afford a new porsche. why not compare it to a dell dude.

Wow, the imac has ports other than usb c..

"Serious i/o for serious work" aparantly they know the macbook pro is only for facebook and 9gag

Looks like Apple are ditching the Mac Pro and giving the iMac the Pro status.

Good move, the iMac Pro looks absolutely gorgeous with class leading hardware, best of both worlds.
No, they said in a previous interview that they are working on a new upgradable Mac Pro but it is still a year away and in the meantime they are going to introduce a new iMac Pro.

I'm SO EXCITED!

This can only mean one thing:

If the iMac Pro STARTS at $5,000 and likely goes up to about $10,000

the MAC PRO is going to START at $10,000 - $20,000 and be the end all be all workstation!!!!

Finally a true workstation for 3D animation and everything else I need on a MAC!!!!

Except the iMac only has one TB controller to allow them to keep the four USB-A so it can only drive one external 5K display rather than the two the MacBook Pro can. So if you want more than one 5K display, you will need an iMac Pro (which has two controllers).

I am guessing most video content producers who would need more than two 5K displays want the extra CPU and GPU performance of the iMac Pro anyway, so probably not an issue. I mean the current iMac can only drive a single external 5K display, too.

Looks like they are pricing them at SGI workstation prices in the 1990s :)

3 questions 1)No graphics card upgrade available for the top end 27"?? 2) Same keyboard?(i.e. no butterfly keyboard) 3)When is High Sierra non-beta due to come out?

Surprised they're still on the 21.5" screen size... it always strikes me as very small.

I was half hoping / half expecting the refresh to be 23-24" and 29-30" iMacs.

Rather than offer it as a BTO option, the top end base configuration already has the best GPU on offer.

2) Same keyboard?(i.e. no butterfly keyboard)

The Butterfly keyboards are getting a lot of flack and appear to have a highish failure rate so not surprised Apple didn't bring it to the desktops.

3)When is High Sierra non-beta due to come out?

October based on prior macOS releases.
