I ordered mine on Sept 1st 2010 at 11h30 PDT in Canada and my shipping is still showing as September.

I hope this is only effecting late coming pre-orders. I am looking forward to try this product. I held back from buying the original one as there was no sign of an AppStore for it... but when I read A4 CPU in the specifications for it I pulled the trigger.

I think this product is going to evolve from what it is now to a beautiful App Filled environment within a year. Buying an ATV2 is buying future proof hardware. You know Apple will upgrade the OS on it for years to come. The worst would have been to buy an ATV1 and find out 3 months after that it is a dead end product.

ATV2 will get better over the next few years... and at the price I won't mind buying a new one next year if I had to.

Tis' sad , not only did i pre-order my ATV the day it was available, but my delivery date recently has been changed:/ first it said september... now its october 21st!!

Mine still says September. Order from Sep 1, 2010 at 12:00 PM PDT. Don't scare me!

That sucks,

I guess I'm lucky, I got my order in right after the keynote (11:50PST) and mine still says September.

Lack of ports :(

Lack of ports is what hindered me from buying this. This new appletv was meant to only connect to HDTVs with HDMI and optical audio. My 2003 Sony HDTV uses components and a DVI port which can be converted using an HDMI dongle.

The problem is there is no way I can get analog audio because I only have RCA L/R audio in.

They should've included at least a 3.5mm audio mini-jack port.

I am just not a big believer in pre-orders. I've never gone that route. I guess I just feel that most new products don't sell out as fast as people expect. Of course usually I don't have to have it on day one anyway.

For iPhone 4 (for example), it was clear you either needed to pre-order or campout in advance to get on on day one, but for Apple TV, despite increased interest for this model, I still think most people will be able to walk into the store and pick one up on launch day.

Although, it is possible that I am underestimating demand. We'll see.

I got this email, but the odd thing is... I didn't order an ATV

I added it to my shopping cart along with a new iPod Touch when they were announced, but removed the ATV at the last minute before placing the order... However--that being said--I won't complain if Apple is gonna give me money...nor would I complain if an ATV showed up on my doorstep :D

I think Apple used their advanced predictive software to conclude that you did want to order one, but forgot to. And so they conveniently charged your card. It is their new zero-click ordering service ;)

You need to upgrade your HDTV and or audio receiver.

There is some really good stuff out there now for a good price.

Analog is old tech.

We're not asking you to get it, or to get one. But thanks.

I have a PS3, hardly gets used. My Apple TV has been used almost every day for years now.

You are not a gamer then. The PS3 has come good games.

But the new apple TV will get some good use. Its a totally different animal and if the netflix integration is as fast as it is in the Ipad and Iphone 4....it will rule.

Nah, this wouldn't be a big deal at all. Assuming you no longer wanted then old ATV, you could easily sell it on eBay, and for a profit from what I am hearing. Now that Apple is moving to the streaming model, the ones with internal storage definitely have their market.

I ordered mine Sept 1st with next day shipping for extra money, but I have not gotten an email saying I am getting refunded for them canceling next day shipping. Additionally, when I pull up my order on apples website they still have me charged for the next day shipping. Mine still says ships Septemer, maybe this only affects certain orders?

 I knew there was a reason I liked Apple :D

Easy...if you don't understand then keep the current one.

For me, I don't want to sync or manage storage so the renting model is perfect. For the few titles that I want to own, I can store on my Mac. Add Airplay and the ability to play HD videos in 30fps from my Sony camcorder or iPhone 4, all this made me switch to the new one. For me, having a HDD in the atv is expensive for 160 GB and absolutely useless.

I think it depends on how you currently use your ATV. For some folks, the new one won't work, and viceversa. I'm in the former group. My ATV is tied to all speakers in my house - both physically and via AirTunes/Airport Exp. I can be in bed, and pick up either one of our iOs devices, and browse through my entire music library and hit play...et voila. Music throughout the house. That won't be possible with the new one, since AirPlay is based on the content of the source device so what's on the iPad may not be the same as what's on mine or my wife's iPhone. For parties, this won't work for me, as I don't want to know which device is streaming the music to the ATV and I definitely don't want my Mac on and open. I want to know (and control) that the ATV is doing it all directly and control it from whichever iOS device is in the vicinity.

But, to each his own!

That make absolutely no sense. If demand has been exceeded it would only push out SOME orders not ALL orders. If Apple was going to ship on certain day it doesn't matter what the demand is as it has already produced X number of units that are ready to ship. Why would a high demand stop all units from shipping?

Who said all units were not shipping? All we know is that new orders will be available in 2-3 weeks. My pre-order still says September.

i guess there are a lot of people out there using iTunes to manage their media which no blu-ray player, xbox, or PS3 works well with.

T,FTFY. Also, Apple Remote app and AirPlay. Those three aren't going to do be compatible there either and have no real equivalent.

BTW, I tried playing my music from Windows 7 to my PS3 using DLNA and it was an extremely third rate experience:
-Took forever just to read in the list of subfolders in my MP3 directory
-No computer-created playlists support
-Browsing an alphabetical list of 12,000 tracks with nothing but a game pad is an exercise in frustration.
-Apple TV is so low power it can either be left on, or will be instant-on. Even the fastest blu-ray player is slow, and Xbox and PS3 are both power hungry, slow, and relatively noisy depending on which iteration you have.

Its a good thing they didn't decide to go with white instead of black or we'd be waiting until 2011 for it to ship

Thank god it isn't white. I have enough white in my entertainment center (Wii, & 360). The black looks so much better, although I wish that they had included some aluminum accents. Of course then it would have been $149 or something. Still, it would have looked really good.

I still don't understand why I should jump on this over keeping my current Apple TV? Anyone? I want a new cool box too...

I'm a very happy gen 1 ATV owner (hacked to make it useful) - I'm also in the UK (meaning no Netflix), this box as is provides less functionality than my current one. What will make me run out and buy one, however, is when (not if) they open the App Store to this device - running apps on this is a no-brainer, and would make it even better than my much loved current ATV.

Ordered Sept 9. Shipping has shown Oct 7 since then. I guess I missed the first production cycle, but I hope I still make the second.

Analog is old tech.

Yeah it sucks(both receiver and my 1080i HDTV), especially when HDMI products started to appear later that year.

Now I have to buy a new receiver.

I see what you're saying here, in that your content is on your original ATV. So I'm not arguing with you, necessarily. But it also sounds like you're saying content MUST be on the iOS device, and I don't think that will turn out to be true, either. Most of my content will remain in iTunes on my desktop Mac. I'm pretty sure AirPlay will absorb the AirTunes functionality, too. So I will be able to use the iOS Remote app to browse my full library, and choose to play it on my new ATV (just using the iPhone as the remote). Isn't this now possible with AirTunes? I guess we'll know for a fact what works and doesn't in the very near future :)
