I have a PS3, hardly gets used. My Apple TV has been used almost every day for years now.
Same here. I've got a PS3 and a 360, but neither one gets used for movies. The Apple TV however is in constant use.

You are not a gamer then. The PS3 has come good games.
But the new apple TV will get some good use. Its a totally different animal and if the netflix integration is as fast as it is in the Ipad and Iphone 4....it will rule.
I got this email, but the odd thing is... I didn't order an ATV
I added it to my shopping cart along with a new iPod Touch when they were announced, but removed the ATV at the last minute before placing the order... However--that being said--I won't complain if Apple is gonna give me money...nor would I complain if an ATV showed up on my doorstep![]()
if i hadn't bought a PS3 right before the announcement i'd think about getting it. but i needed something to play netflix and youtube on the TV.
wifi enabled blu ray players were $199 so I spent the extra $100 on the PS3 since it can do so much more. anything netflix doesn't have i can rent via Sony's online store or via Time Warner Cable. and Sony will stream 1080p
I am not sure about the rumors that Apple has had 100 times the orders for the App TV than they have had for every version of the iPhone to date. I think it is a bit excessive to believe every household in America purchasing 20 of the device. I think most people will make due with two or three.
Here's one for all the folks touting the mini HDMI output connectors on their new phones, which they feel makes them "soo much better than an iPhone".
I have xbox and ps3 and the biggest problem with it? Sound. It's so loud when running. No matter if it's the disc or the internal. The fans suck. The xbox was better because it doesn't require a disc (BUT it does require a gold account which could cost $50+ annually), but it would pick up noise too and to be honest, the xbox doesn't have a good track record for a device that can be kept "on all the time". As said by someone else, playing music or video of another computer was difficult at best and usually required a 3rd party app. This is far more convenient with airplay.
i heard the original ones got so hot you could heat your house with them.
I think it depends on how you currently use your ATV. For some folks, the new one won't work, and viceversa. I'm in the former group. My ATV is tied to all speakers in my house - both physically and via AirTunes/Airport Exp. I can be in bed, and pick up either one of our iOs devices, and browse through my entire music library and hit play...et voila. Music throughout the house. That won't be possible with the new one, since AirPlay is based on the content of the source device so what's on the iPad may not be the same as what's on mine or my wife's iPhone. For parties, this won't work for me, as I don't want to know which device is streaming the music to the ATV and I definitely don't want my Mac on and open. I want to know (and control) that the ATV is doing it all directly and control it from whichever iOS device is in the vicinity.
But, to each his own!
You see that USB port on the back of the ATV? You think you can't just plug in an external hard drive into that?
I've read that port is for programming the unit actually. I think it s like the usb port on a directv unit. You would think an external HD is an option. But it isn't.

I never really understood those "video out" port on gadgets like camera, phones etc. How many people really hook their gadgets to the TV like that anyway. It might be fun when you first have it, but it gets really old after a while.
I see what you're saying here, in that your content is on your original ATV. So I'm not arguing with you, necessarily. But it also sounds like you're saying content MUST be on the iOS device, and I don't think that will turn out to be true, either. Most of my content will remain in iTunes on my desktop Mac. I'm pretty sure AirPlay will absorb the AirTunes functionality, too. So I will be able to use the iOS Remote app to browse my full library, and choose to play it on my new ATV (just using the iPhone as the remote). Isn't this now possible with AirTunes? I guess we'll know for a fact what works and doesn't in the very near future![]()
Um, actually no, I don't see a USB port on the back of the new ATV. The old one has it and I've used it. But even if there were one (which there isn't)...why would I do that? So I can turn it into the device I already own?
