I have yet to see a poll about this. So poll on people. It will be a good measurement for people to use down the road. I will make reference to this poll in the other threads of this nature.
I wanted to. But I couldn't set up the poll in the old thread for the life of me. I wanted a poll. I didn't open this thread fro the purpose of chit chat, I did it for the poll.
I think this thread is echoing the general sentiment of most of the "should I buy a refurb" threads we see posted.
When so many hardcore Mac users think they're a good idea, it's difficult to doubt it.
Using MRoogle to search the forums before posting will help reduce duplicate threads. As you can see, the moderators care, and enforce the Forum Rules:Yes we all know there is a million threads open about this topic. Who cares. If you dont want to read about it, don't. I have read many other threads. I searched. And didn't get exactly the info I wanted.
One thread. Do not post a thread more than once. Post a new thread in the proper forum. If the topic is relevant to more than one forum, pick the best fit or most specific forum and post it only once.
If you do end up getting one I would higly recommend getting AppleCare as well. I've seen the good and bad side of Apple's refurb's.
Personally I'm super against and voted as such, but that shouldn't stop you just because I've danced in the seventh circle of hell with the devil himself.
Well, I see it as buying someone else's problem. If Apple does their job right then it shouldn't be that big of an issue, but the amount of refurb's I've seen you're bound to see some whackier-than-normal problems/errors.
For example, and while this is not indicative of all of their refurbs, I have seen them with spill damage (in places that the customer more-than-likely couldn't have spilled on), I have seen missing screws inside the machine, bloated/almost falling off capaciters, stripped screws, and basically a bunch of random f-ups from lazy/stupid service-people at Apple. The missing/stripped screws was the most common issue we'd see with 'em, and had at least one occasion of, "How the hell did they manage to do this?".
On a normal machine it would be a sure sign of customer "tampering" or warranty voiding, however, when the 90 year old came in with the refurbished machine, and the fact that we saw it on more refurbs than anything else that was the most likely issue.
I am not a certified tech for them but did work at an authorized store. I never signed anything from Apple themselves, and our store closed down because of the economy and because Apple saw how well we were doing and decided to magically open up their own stores near a few of our locations. I love to hate Apple and will most likely use one for the rest of my life if at all possible; so take that for what it's worth. By and large though, for the price of a refurb with AC, you're OK as most service related issues (other than maybe a missing screw) will pop up within that time and will be taken care of.
I am thinking about buying a refurbished ipod (e.g. ipod touch). but i'm pretty concern about the possible scratches esp at the back of the ipod since it's very prone to scratches.
So do they ensure that the coverings are new and unscratched before reaching their new owner? or do we have to accept that it's a used on and scratches are inevitable?
i think the refurbs are very good. its a good way to save money especially in this economy and the warranty is the same. i bought one last week you can check out the video i made on youtubehttp://youtube.com/watch?v=TeScSI3sHGo
