The difference is that they don't give you a replacement device when they do a battery service on an iPhone. If you want warranty to cover the repair, they will refuse to replace the battery unless it reads 79% or lower using their equipment. If you want to pay out of pocket, they'll replace it regardless what it says. On the watch and older iPads (anything without an M4) you get a replacement device, they don't replace the battery. For this very reason, if the watch or iPad doesn't read under 79% using their equipment they will not allow a battery service whether you pay for it or it's warranty.. There are many threads on this forum, recently and in the past that confirm this precedent..
Forgot that they had different approaches to repairing the Apple Watch in Apple stores, I seen this response on other threads. Even with AppleCare the battery replacement must be 79% or under.

Sorry to tell you but all service is dead for the Apple Watch S4.

Apple has confirmed that it will end support for three older Apple Watches – the Series 5, Series 4 and the original SE – after announcing watchOS 11 during its WWDC 2024 keynote (you can catch up on everything Apple announced at our WWDC 2024 live blog).
Go to this link, put in the series 4 and you’ll see the $100 quote for the battery - you may want to do your research before posting.

Good luck getting that battery replaced. It will never happen.

Why don't they just do the battery service instead of offering $100 to buy an accessory?
Exactly! I said on the phone I want to give Apple the $100 to get a working watch.

Edit: $100 is their fee for battery replacement (I don’t want anything for free - just the service I was promised was offered when I bought the watch - I think the $100 fee is fine)

can’t believe your dragging this out in a year or so the S4 will be just a watch that tells the time unless you adamantly persist with an outdated iPhone for a number of years. cut your losses accept it like everyone else

Yes, that’s for sure. My Apple Watch 3 is pretty bad, due to lack of watch os updates.

I can’t believe this thread is still going. Apples policy on this has been explained multiple times.
No - their policy is to replace a bad battery - this is not happening - people need to be aware that they are making a disposable purchase.
