That is completely irrelevant.
Consumers deserve to have a choice and plenty of options to pick from.
You just wait until companies kill their apps on Apple Store and move to Alternative Stores in order to save 30% and offer their services at decreased prices and almost no BS from Apple.
You are probably right that vast majority will stay where they are because apple users are mostly simple people and not tech savy.
But users who want cheaper prices for things they spend money on monthly basis will probably be glad there is such an option.
I know il be the first person to move and encourage my coworkers to start developing on Epic or any other store that comes out for the EU market.
They have a choice and it's called Android. No one is forced to purchase an iPhone or iPad

Why can't I just walk into Target, setup a booth and sell some stuff?
How is an alternate App Store setting up shop in Apple’s App Store? It’s a completely different store. Last time I checked I can buy whatever I want in a web browser without needing Apple’s approval, having to use Apple’s payment system or having to give a cut of the transaction to Apple.

What Epic fans here are not reading but should is Apple leveraged the EU to get assurances that Epic will comply with Contract Law and if they do not they are gone.

Public Second Chances always fail and the EU will have to admit that once Sweeney again shoots his mouth off and breaks the contract. When that happens the EU will be forced to abstain from negotiating on Epic's behalf.

if you don't know this happens then you don't know politics.
This is IN the courts (in the EU anyway). Dust is in the air. We don't know who is in compliance with the law. Nothing either side is doing is final at this point.

The EU courts will have the definitive say. And then, who knows, the US courts might get pulled in.

Until then, no reputation, no contract, no '2nd' chance is set in stone.

Hahaha. Poor little Apple doesn’t get to decide what is legal over a whole continent. Really sad.
Apple should have the right to decide what app stores are allowed to operate on the platform they created and spent billions developing and maintaining. Those blindly defending Epic because they can't get to take free advantage of proprietary technology for their own gain are really sad.

The EU have previous for overstepping and this is nothing new.

EU to the rescue! All of this reminds me of Microsoft, when EU forced em to let users choose a browser. It looked exactly like this: (and history repeats)

Being in the US, I am really jealous about this. Yeah, we can "change" our browser but with it still being webkit, it sucks. I want to use Firefox WITH extensions on iOS but no, Apple is being dumb about it.

Actually, at that time the White House, yes that one, was investigating the real possibility of splitting Microsoft up due to anti competitive monopolistic behaviour, what the EU did was small fry compared to that.

So I can just use Targets infrastructure and millions of customer and not have to pay them a single penny? I also plan on using their water, electricity, employees as well.
You joke, but the people who mess up their phones because they installed shady apps from shady app stores aren't going to be asking for tech support from the owner of the shady App Store. I mean, lots of users already don't understand that Apple doesn't make every app in the App Store.

Apple today reversed a decision to shut down Epic Games' developer account in the European Union, and the account has now been reinstated. In a statement to MacRumors, Apple said that Epic Games has committed to following the rules, allowing Epic Sweden to be reaccepted into the Apple Developer Program.
I wonder if what we read the other day and now this is the truth?
It wasn't clear couple of days before that Apple had indeed terminated their chat with EPIC going by the message conversations? This now resembles a typical business back and forth as tidbits of whats going on are mentioned.:D

Are you an American? because that reply is hella ignorant, but then again i dont see why i should argue with someone who doesnt understand or respect the laws of some other part of the world.
Its not my fault USA gov sits on their ass and does very little of anything to support their citizens and consumers.
Happy day to be an EU citizen and to have more options as an Iphone user.

No they don’t get to decide ****. They’re just a business. If they don’t want to follow the law then gtfo out of EU.

How long before Epic breaks their promises and Apple gets to dump them again?

How long does it take for Apple to register their business in Sweden? That seems to be the deciding characteristic. Maybe if they set up their office closer to the seat of power than Spotify and Epic they can spend less on lawyers and more on fine wine and caviar with new friends.

It’s almost like you have never read any of the threads on this topic… this analogy has been refuted hundreds of times already.

Once you buy an iPhone it belongs to you not Apple. In the EU you own a copy of the OS rather than a license, Apple can’t just brick your phone in the EU for using it against the TOS.
Apple doesn’t get to tell people in the EU what happens on the phone after they buy it.

As I’ve said elsewhere, Apple needs to separate the idea of a SDK fee from their attempts to monetize all transactions that occur on their platform.

Tim Sweeney tweeted so it must be true!

Bets on how fast before Epic breaks some rules and gets banned?
The only reason Epic couldn't bring its own App Store the iOS was because Apple required them to go through Apple for it and subsequently banned them for rules Apple made up. That was never going to stand under the DMA. This is pretty much a case of "we should settle this because if the EU actually starts to investigate, the gig will be up".

By far the funniest outcome of this whole thing would be apple deciding "the EU market isn't worth it" and then watch the politicians scramble at Apple users all over the continent scream at the EU bureaucrats for taking away their iPhones. Will never happen, but would be hilarious.

EDIT: this post was meant as a joke. I do not think Apple would, could, or should do this. I just thought it was funny to imagine what would happen to the EU "dog" if it actually caught the "car" it was chasing. Like a dog chasing a car, that's not something we actually have to worry about.

Off the backbone of someone else’s platform, so the Target analogy is still accurate.
So if Target built a store ("platform") in a part of town that was dead and turned the area into a booming shopping center, you feel Target has the right to determine if you can open a store across the street to capitalize on the shoppers coming to that part of town? And it's reasonable and fair that the business has to pay a Core Tech Fee to Target too?

What if Target doesn't like what you say about them (such as through ads), does Target have the right to revoke your business license and cancel your business lease too?
