Still no support for 3rd party Music apps? Seriously? How long has this been promised for now?

Does Intercom relate to or interact with Walkie-Talkie on the Apple Watch? Or are they two separate watch apps?
Unrelated, and if my estimation is correct, will eventually replace Walkie Talkie. The amount of time spent trying to get Walkie Talkie to work each time I want to use it has negated its usefulness, and seems destined to be replaced by more passive audio message.

Looks like the intercom Option is missing some of the features originally on the beta. Like no intercom button in HomeKit and doesn’t look like it is sending to the phone yet.
iOS 14.2 has the Intercom features. 14.1 is what was released today. HomePod has initial Intercom support in 14.1.

I am really confused by the Atmos support being offered on the original Homepod. Do I need 13 Homepods or can it work with existing speakers? All the reviews claim it works with 5.1 and 7.1 audio... but that's not Atmos content. If it is simulated Atmos than why is it limited to the expensive model. You just need to tell the Apple TV how far apart the speakers are.

I have 6 HomePods and never seen any lag at all in a 5200 sq ft house. Airplay 2 avoids this by providing a large buffer and streaming faster than real time, check your wifi. I also have Sonos, Alexa, and Google devices and Apple's response times beat the pants off of all of them.
Are they actually all in practical use or is this just because you like testing everything? I have Sonos Beam/One(s) and a Sonos Move, and handful of Echo Dots, and I'm thinking about getting some HomePod Mini to replace the Echos but I'm concerned how to make it not confusing for the household.

Intercom doesn't seem to do much. Its certainly not there for the phone so as said it must be in 14.2.
I have two homepods stereo linked in my living room and I issued the "Hey Siri, Intercom" command. It said to go ahead and when i said Hello, one of the homepods replied saying "You don't have any homepods in any other room" so its not working for the phone as yet.

I'm not sure why the confusion?

Intercom for iOS is in 14.2 beta. It is not in 14.1. Intercom for HomePod (at least initial support between HomePods) is in HomePod update 14.1.

One thing that I really appreciate about Apple of late is how long a product gets treated as "new." I know the bad side of this is that a product has a long life cycle and we all want the newest, latest, greatest, sooner... but the good side is that my new thing that is years old still feels like new. I love the support my old HomePod is getting!

Intercom seems to be working for me iPhone on iOS 14.2 beta and HomePods on 14.1

It sucks that I can’t ask Siri via HomePod to play on all my “AirPlay 2” enabled Sonos speakers. You have to manually enable via control center or the airplay button then you can give Siri request that will then play on all the speakers. Seems like walled garden BS to me.

Me too. Disappointed by lack of Dolby Atmos on the release note.

Hopefully, 14.1 also fixes HomePod occasionally "Not Responding" in HomeKit and requiring a restart and/or reset.

I wonder if intercom feature can be triggered from other devices like iPhone, or whether that would require iOS 14.1.
Agreed....what I've been waiting for also.

Why don't they make a mode where the HomePod is the bass and the HomePod mini is the tweeter? Do people even know what basses and tweeters are anymore?
You mean like a left mini, a right mini and a big HomePod hidden away for bass?

Not a big deal either way but do we know for sure it’s not just taking time to roll out on iOS 14.1? Apple Insider just did an intercom how-to and said “Intercom requires iOS 14.1, and the new HomePod 14.1 update, or newer.”

of course they do, they are speakers inside of a well balanced speaker package

What happened to the 3rd party music support update for HomePod?! Also, why is it still not possible to send audio to HomePod over strictly Bluetooth, as an option?!
Do't know on third party, maybe as we are always told no one owns HomePods so there is no third party interest? Bluetooth is crap compared to Airplay, why would you?

Apple software has a latency issue, and it is most apparent on AppleTV and Siri. The lag is shamefully bad, and none of their competitors are any near as bad.

The lag on Homepod makes for a crappy device. Did Siri hear me? Do I repeat myself? Or did it fail as is typical with Siri? If you have time to think these things before Siri responds, it’s way too slow.

I’m hoping the update fixes the latency issue on Homepod to make it usable.
so funny, and yet so untrue. enough with false narratives already. If you are really having that as an issue, then maybe it is a network issue or something. There is literally no latency issue at all with the HomePods. I have a pair set up as a stereo speaker and connected to an appleTV, use both the internal speaker and the stereo pair, sounds phenomenal (there is a tuning program on the Apple TV BTW). I admit that a relative has an LG that sounds echo if you turn on some of the audio processing on the LG (but you would kind of expect that as it is not output to the HomePods)

i agree with the lag its the reason i'm not spending 200 for one its practically useless for anything other then a smart speaker
really? did you set it up? Appletv has a tv lag setting under audio (I think) runs a series of sounds through your phone and adjust the latency for the TV speakers (of course don't expect to run TV sound processing - the output is not hooked up to the HomePods and that could be your issues, but that is not the HomePods)
