I’m only using one HomePod but my Apple TV still shows as standby so I don’t think that’s it. By the way, sorry if this has been shared already but have you folks seen these two screen in Home yet:

Anyone managed to get Atmos with just one HomePod?
Yep, I’m only using one HomePod. Sounds pretty great but definitely lacking in multi-channel separation when compared to my full on 5.1 sound bar system, but still very impressive coming from one HomePod.

I think This is the best way to check....make your default audio your tv speakers and go into Apple TV plus (if you have it) play something like greyhound or Springsteen and it should have no mention of atmos. Then go back and make default audio your homepods....play the same content and it should show atmos...pics are below.....what do you think??

Does anyone know yet if Dolby Atmos works with Homepods if you don’t have a TV that is capable of Atmos processing? If you can that would justify an Apple TV update for me.
I don't see why it wouldn't. All the processing is done through the Apple TV and HomePod. The only processing done by the TV would be your HDR or Dolby Vision processing.

I see Atmos for Apple TV + but not for netflix
Also I have homepods as my default audio source in settings but for the format no atmos

By the way, I'm seeing the Atmos symbol for 'Old Guard' on Netflix.

But what's odd is I remember Castlevania being in Atmos and that logo is not showing for me anymore. Just shows 5.1 now.

I dont have atmos working currently, but here's a list of what I've tried, maybe it will lep someone else.

I have an apple tv 4k, two homepods, Vizio Dolby 50"

- Both homepods are stereo paired.
- Homepods are on 14.2 as well as the tv.
- All 3 are grouped in their own room.
- "Quick start" Set to "On"
- Homepods set to default speakers
- Audio format is "auto" with no atmos available showing.

Well mines shows both atmos either way

I have noticed that when playing my purchased movies through the tv app it shows Dolby Atmos. But when I play the movies through the movies itunes app it doesn’t show dolby atmos.

Okay, so I got home and tested this out. Took a bit of messing with the home app and restarting my homepods because my stereo pair was showing up twice in the home app and twice in the default output options on the ATV. Took several tries to get the audio calibration to work as the ATV kept connecting to my sound bar to play the sound or the prompt wouldn’t come up on my phone, or the test sound would play and the prompt would tell me that it didn’t hear the test sound.

First impressions playing Blade Runner 2049: The homepods sound pretty good, good bass as I expected. I can tell that there is an “ambient effect” and it’s better that hearing the movie in stereo. Sounds and effects have a spaciousness, however none of the “effects” give the illusion of coming from the rear or sides. It’s not mind blowing. Switching back to my Atmos sound bar with sub and rear speakers... there is no comparison. The sound bar wins hands down as I expected. I could see where homepods would make better sense in a smaller bedroom and there is a cost difference ~$700 for stereo homepods vs ~$900 5.1.2 sound bar w/ sub and wireless rear speakers. But my money would be on spending the extra $200 If you were choosing between the two. Of course if you already have bought a pair of homepods it‘s a nice upgrade, but calling it “surround” or Atmos is kinda stretch. Slightly better than the old stereo mode is what I’d say.

The minis cant do atmos at all so don’t get your hopes up. Would be nice to group 3+ homepods for better surround but whether That happens is anyone’s guess.
They couldn't do Atmos by themselves, but I don't see why Apple wouldn't be able to route a single channel to each mini speaker.
