It was obvious that Apple was going to do this.

The SDK is coming out this month.

Entry level through experienced programmers are going to be writing apps for the touch. Not every programmer writes efficient code. These apps are going to be memory hogs in terms of executable size and data storage requirements.

Apple had to do this.

I just checked the New Zealand Apple store and it's available for 749.00 dollars.

I'm going to wait a couple of days for some of the other sellers to update their sites, I expect that TotallyMac will have them for a few dollars cheaper. I've been waiting for a 32 GB Touch so now I'm about to dive in and get one :D

Whenever I buy something like the 16gb touch, I weigh out the pros and cons of technology and the speed of improvements. You just have to bite the bullet now and then. Had I known....? :) I'd have waited for the 32gb. I just figured it'd be summer by the time that happened.

I've got about 4 gigs of my favorite music on mine, with the rest filled up with DVDs I ripped with handbrake (primarily concert music DVDs). I've already changed the DVD lineup a couple of times since x-mas.

Had they announced in January, I'd have been able to return my touch to Amazon. But, they might not have accepted it as it took about 1 hour to accidently scratch the back up with my wedding ring.

When 64 gb gets here, I'll think about selling my 16 on fleabay. This stuff happens with technology.

would it be more economical for me (yeah:rolleyes:right) to get an IPhone with bigger memory for my music or an IPodTouch & a regular cell phone??? I never had an Ipod before :( but since i bought a new car which is Ipod compatible, i feel like i was compelled to get one, but at the same time, i'm shopping for a new cell phone- my contract with sprint is due next month-yippeee!:)

appreciate all your comments:apple:

I'm planning on getting a standard mobile with wifi and then using a 32gb touch's wifi to connect to the internet using the phone's internet (hspda) connection.

That gives you a much faster internet connection than the iphone, with the flexibility to choose your own carrier and use your ipod touch for internet anywhere.

Why was there no word of this at Macworld? This actually pisses me off pretty bad. I bought the 16G on Jan. 15th right after the show and now this comes out...

I agree that it would make sense to announce a product upgrade like this at Macworld, however seeing that pricing hasn't changed all that much its not really a bummer, I got my 8GB for $260 plus tax, had they dropped the price of the 16GB to that of the 8 GB then I'd probably be

There will always something around the corner you can't win thats how it goes in the world of technology I guess!

that's a logical idea...and i was with cingular before liked their coverage except the customer service; & if i change carrier again, i will be stucked with an IPhone that will only function as an Ipod...is it easy to make a connection between your wifi compatible phone & an I-pod touch?

appreciate your help...

Could i connect the touch to my n95 and use its 3G highspeed over wifi?
interesting idea

I have a 16 gig Touch. I still have 2 gigs left over, because I put everything I could find on it. I don't need a 32 gig version. Come out with something compelling, like a slightly larger viewing screen, without making the form factor larger (there's space around the LCD I could do without), add a camera, bluetooth headset, etc. and I'll consider upgrading.

I definitely have 30 gigs worth of content but I just don't like all of it that much and don't need to have it with me. I charge my iPod every day in the dock so syncing is not a problem at all.

But I don't think anyone can complain about this new addition to the lineup. 32 gigs at that price point is nice. 100$ extra to double the storage is a good deal. But I know if I bought it the 32 gigs would never be filled...ever.

Flash memory is pretty pricey, especially for a large capacity like 32GB. Apple is NOT money hungry.

But I mean, apple has made some pretty bad choices in the last few months that has kind of gotten me "whatever" with them and dont want to buy anything, because they keep updating too quickly

The big huff with the iphone rebate.
Then the 20 dollar apps for iPod touch
then another update in less than 4 months, especially right after christmas when everyone most likely got a touch.
Im just waiting for the SDK to really upset people when we have to pay 5 bucks for apps

Not like they are money hungry, cause every company is. but they seemed to want customer satisfaction and lately i've been less than amused :/

I was awaiting the 30GB+ Touch to arrive before pondering an upgrade from my 30GB iPod...

The only thing is now, I wait for Apple to drop the price a wee bit. They always do that: Premium item, new on the market and high price - then six months later they shave a whopping amount off. I'll wait six months ;)

cause they are becoming like money hungry or something not for the consumer anymore. ya know.

Money hungry? You really don't understand what a business is about do you? Every single business out there wants to make money. They all want a profit. Did you really think Apple was going to sell you a 32GB Touch for $100 while they lose hundreds on that sale? Plus, iPods cost money to make. It's not like Apple magically makes them out of dirt. They have to pay to have the parts made, they have to pay get flash memory inside the Touch. Last I heard, 32GB of flash is more expensive than 16GB.

Seriously, companies aren't 100% consumer based. They care about themselves too. They need to stay in business. They do their best to balance consumer and business.

Ok, but there are things that seem to be changing. When Jobs introduced the macbook air with no opitical drive he says who needs that when you can download movies from itunes. It was almost a joke
Like having to buy more and more stuff, then something else comes out that's better. When they should just hold off on one thing until they perfect it.

I wonder if there are any other differences, other than the extra 16 mb or 24 mb, between the 8 and 16s versus the 32. At the price point, I'd probably still buy the 16, but then would be pissed (perhaps unjustifiably) if some app comes out at the end of Feb or Mar that only runs o the 32 because of some unstated hardware innovation.

I'm really hating Apple at the moment. I was thinking of getting a macbook as well, but may just use the money on something else. They'll find some sort of way to put me off, or take more of my money.

yeah updating technology really posses me off too. That's why I'm still rocking my 286 NEC with 4mb HD. Stupid businesses that want to make money.

I agree with the above. I want Apple to make money, in fact I'm a shareholder. I just find some of the recent practices annoying as a consumer. If you want to see where not taking care of the customer will get you, look at Dell and the terrific overseas call centers and the obnoxious coupon and configuration scams they run on trying to get a sale price on the custom configuration options. Fu%! them...

I'm specifically annoyed because I waited until MW to see what would be announced. I then decided to buy a 16Gb with the "Apple 14-day" or whatever policy to find I would not get the apps without paying $20 because I didn't buy it from the Apple store, I only bought it from an authorized apple retailer... Then, two weeks later, they annouce what I really wanted but was no longer willing to wait months for. In another few weeks, who knows what they will announce.

I have returned my 16GB to Amazon and I will wait for the SDK announcements. Apple has no sale right now - is that really what they are trying to achive - teaching people to wait instead of buying?

Eh, only through iTunes. People will develop free Apps (like AOL maybe for an AIM client). I think what may cost money if anything is games. I expect these App's to be a little more like widgets that are free and then occasional premium apps.

finally --- my first IPOD is coming!!!!!

:cool:went to apple store, clicked on i-pods:confused:, looked for the 32  reached out for my card :( typed in the numbers;) & clicked on place order ;)
now that i am $565.98 poorer (including incase protective cover)...i can't afford to expedite my shipping - so i chose the free shipping one...

:apple:1 down, 1 more to go - a purchase of an updated MBP!!!:p

So tell me, with the Touch only getting five hours of battery live when watching video (http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/specs.html), why spend all that money on storage space when based on the specs from Apple you have to get your Touch back to a computer after only five hours of video watching. If you have to get your Touch back to a computer to get the battery recharged, why not take the opportunity to update whatever videos you have on it.

In the long run, as usual, it's the battery life that limits you. Not how much you can stuff you can put on it. That's why I think my 8GB Touch is just about perfect :)

SDK options when they are released.

Carrying a larger collection of music and videos to choose from.

Taking a trip. Say I go on a weekend trip and I want to take some movies with me. Put them on the Touch, and all I need to carry in addition to the Touch is a power adapter and cables. Sweet.
