All I needed to do was to say that I actually ordered the 40gb one, not the 20gb one, and that I was unhappy at the way I had been dealt with. As I rang them to give them the legal spiel, they were updating my order. It has the two accessories on at 1p each.
I also mentioned in my email complaint that I had read that some people had their orders appended with the 1p items, and that I was unhappy at the inconsistent line taken, stating that I felt like I was being unfairly treated.
OK, I called Apple UK again about this today. Again they were very helpful and again they said they'd send the accessories. It sounds like the standard brush-off email they're sending out is directed at people who bought the 40GB after the web site was changed. Or maybe they're trying it on, I don't know. Either way I've had another verbal confirmation that they're aware of the issue and will see us right on it. I hope this is my final word on this - i just want the frigging iPod now or I'll cave in, cancel the order and spend the next 2 months waiting for a 60GB model! ;-)
