My 40gb shipped today! The extra accessories will be shipped at a later date, so that's cool by me! It's on its way! I did order it within seconds of it appearing on the site though! My order number ends in 001!

Heh heh - the "first post" of 4G iPod orders in the UK. Kudos man!

Sorry to hear about all these UK people being delayed until the 28th. Mine came today (Leeds) and it's such a big upgrade from the 2G 10GB I had before! The size difference is astounding!

Did you get the 20GB or 40GB? I'm interested in the size difference between the 40GB and the 1/2G 10GB.

Also, did you get the remote and case?

Cheers!

Arghh!

They said my iPod would ship within 24 hours, but that time has come and went, and no update on the order.

Where is it!?

I knew I should have just went to the apple store.

They shipped it out of China. Very cool. Should be at work on Monday the way I see it, you really can't ground ship from China

Sorry to hear about the delays in delivery to the UK; I order mine on the 19th and got it on the 23rd (delivered to Oxford). If it's any consolation, once the iPod was shipped, it got here in about 12 hours from Ireland. Pretty impressive.

I got the 20GB unfortunately, but I can tell you that there's a BIG difference in size between those two. I believe the 2G 10GB was 1.85cm thick, while the 4G 20GB is 1.46cm, with the 4G 40GB being 1.76cm so you'd definitely see some improvement. Plus, the rounded front makes it seem smaller.

I didn't get the remote or case, seeing as I reckoned I'd rather have it quicker as I didn't use them anyway (however I did order while it was still reading that they were included). I'll probably send Apple an imbecilic email saying 'Why didn't I get them? I don't understand! It said I would!' and just be generally dumb enough to wangle them out of them. It usually works, but if it doesn't, no great loss.

Mine says 'Assembled in China' on the back, so I assume it's from China 😉 and has a definite blue glow to the backlight, much more so than the very white one of my old iPod.

And yes, once it gets to Ireland you'll get it the next day, despite the fact that it, from there, flies to Belgium then to East Midlands. Weird.

The one complaint I have is that on the address label, Apple didn't put the house number or street, just the name, area, city and post-code, so TNT put it down as a delivery failure, at which point I rang up and gave them my full address. They delivered it about three hours after that, so I was quite pleased 🙂

The 20gb G4 model was never advertised as coming with the remote or case. Only the 40gb model had that.

I knew I should have just went to the apple store.

I am based in Boston and ordered a 40GB (engraved) on Monday 19th. Est. shipping day was the 23rd. Then I wanted to change my shipping adress on Tuesday. I called the store and asked make the change. But they said, the iPOD is already on its way, the address change is not possible anymore. No update on the order, so I called them Friday 8pm and asked again for the adress change. They said the iPOD is already packed and gets shipped out "now" so their is no adress change possible. A few hours later the order was updated and changed to shipping day 28th.
I called the Saturday 7.30am, but a phone message says the stores business hours are 9am to 6pm central time.
This gets annoying. First the thing with the accessoires, then the problems to change the adress, the clueless order assistance and now the online shop is closed. If they hadn't already shipped the AppleCare I would be ready to cancel that order.

Anybody with similar experiences? Is there a problem with the iPods that they need to fix? That would explain the mess.

Andi

tomjleeds: The exact same thing happened with my delivery; for some reason Apple had my iPod addressed to 'Adrian Hon, Oxford' (omitting street address) which is obviously a bit ambiguous. TNT, in a rare showing of professionalism, actually rang me up before they went out on delivery to ask me for my full address.

20 to 40 to 6 to 4

I got the 40 GB because I enjoy Led Zeppelin drum solos....

4th gen in colors?

I was in best buy today and I noticed they had item descriptions that said, 15gb purple, 20gb yellow, 40gb orange....but nothing on the shelf yet. Has anyone heard if there are going to be colors of the new generation? It seems like they could be released soon. Why does apple do this to us?

I highly doubt Best Buy would be the first to break new iPods or Minis without anyone else catching on. Mistake on their end.

i don't mean to be a party pooper, but my 10GB 3rd Gen iPod can do anything the new iPod can, except run for 12 hours or make more than one 'on the go' playlist.
i would have liked to see support for the new AirPort Express and maybe ablility to view album art.

The main reason that neither of those in is that they would use HUGE amounts of battery.

Actually, it was advertised as coming with remote, case AND dock. Not on the tech specs page, on the actual product page in the store. Maybe it was just a UK thing.

whee!

I picked up my 40 gig from Best Buy yesterday. I drove 70 miles and when I got there the power was out in the store. I was ready to flip! But I went and had lunch and when I came back all was well, got the 4 year plan for 40 bucks. Already been syncing music and have it hooked up to my home stereo! It's my first iPod and I love it! Now just waiting for the new silicone cases to come out so I won't have to handle it with kid gloves. Just wanted to share my excitement!

I LOVE APPLE

Hey folks...

Update from my last post:

After calling Apple and visiting the Apple Store in downtown Chicago asking for an exchange for the 4G 15GB I purchased June 30th, and hearing SORRY WE JUST CAN'T DO IT over and over again, I totally gave up. Then out of the blue, I got a call from the Apple Store this morning saying that they would indeed exchange it for the 4G 20GB model, and all I had to do was pay the standard restocking fee of $29. So, I did. And I'm now copying 20GB of tracks over to the new model as I type this.

I just thought that was really cool of them. LOVE the mini interface...big improvement over the 3G. Now I just have to see if they got rid of the horrible EQ distortion problem.

More later,

Steve

Are you absolutely sure? I ordered mine literally within a minute of the item coming online in the store. I recall the store page being correct all along, saying that the remote and case AND dock were optional items for the 20gb device, and that the remote and case were optional for the 40gb model (with the dock being standard).

Apple sent me an email, which i quoted earlier in this thread, but part of it said

"Despite this the web-site http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore, where you placed your order has always stated clearly what the 20GB iPod ships with, which is Apple Earphones, AC Adapter, FireWire cable and USB 2.0 cable."

Not that that was relevant, as I'd ordered the 40gb model, but I'm almost 100% sure that the store page has always been correct.

aaahh.. just cant take it anymore. my 20gig is supposed to ship tommorrow - I just can't wait no longer. I have been copying all my cd's (13gig) to my iBook, and now the suspense is killing me!
I just hope it ships overnight!

Totally and utterly sure - I wish I'd taken a screenie of it now. Underneath the image of an iPod it said the correct stuff, but lower down the page where it has loads of text it was still the one for the old model, therefore saying it included dock, case, remote etc.

Ha, in Canada, to introduce the new 4G models, all the 3G models prices have come WAY down! I just picked up a 3G 20GB model for $175 OFF the retail Canadian price!

He he, that's why I took a screenshot of the tech specs page - Apple requested it from me when I questioned them!

Oh I may have missed that bit.

That image on Apple's main site is obviously a fake. I am a graphic designer, and that is the worst photoshopping job I've ever seen! It's not even a good fake!

/sarcasm

😀

You mean the one with the new iPod? What's wrong with it 😕
