That IS the problem. 18mpbs / 8 = 2.25 MB / s and that's probably at burst speed. What is your sustained speed when downloading an update from crapple?

not sure, how do i figure that out?

----------

It is possible that it is some weird HDCP or data issue. When all else fails it doesn't hurt to try the cable, wouldn't be the first time.

Between your modem and the ATV is there any wireless or is it all wired? I used to have a lot of trouble with my connection until I switched to the 5GHz band. There was just too much noise at the older frequencies.

If all else fails turn on closed captioning. :D

im not sure, my roku works perfectly though. maybe I should just take it back and exchange it?

It can't be, there's no safari. Or is that the update? Safari added and it's snappier?!?!?!?!?

He's being sarcastic. Because every time an update for iPhone/iPad or OS X comes out, many people say Safari is snappier. It's now turned into a joke for every update.

I've done that countless times. my internet is 18mpbs so i know thats not the problem, I've reset the modem, router, atv. The ONLY thing I can think of is that my hdmi cable isn't good enough? thoughts?

Hardwire it temporarily with an Ethernet cable, you'll soon know of its wi-fi or not... Also, it's slightly unconnected but I used a cheap HDMI cable with my ATV (through a splitter) and it was the sound that was affected; ie. I didn't have any! I know it's not quite the same situation but if it's still playing up over Ethernet I'd def try changing your HDMI cable... If its still not working go for a replacement ATV!

I've tried wired and wireless, same either way. Im going to take it back and get another. if I get the same results then I will try a new HDMI cable.

I hope that works....

A new HDMI cable would be easier and have less hassle than exchanging the ATV. Plus it may solve the problem.

good point. ill see if i can find another one somewhere...

if i need to buy one, what do i look for? I know not all of them will work. I had that problem the 1st time i hooked it up.

I use the Amazon.com branded HDMI cables and I have no problems with them and they're inexpensive. I use them on my ATV2, ATV3, Xbox 360, and Bluray players.

Let's see if this update fixes my Apple TV's inability to consistently connect to my iTunes movies... that is one of the items in the vaguely-worded list of fixes.

It's really annoying to have to relaunch iTunes every other time I want to watch one of our movies on the Apple TV!

(Please don't suggest it's a firewall issue or a network issue or a cable issue - it's really not)

Follow-up: Initial returns are promising... what happens 24 hours from now will be a better indicator though. :D

One fix was the Apple TV 3 now being able to be powered on via the iPhone app. Use to not work and you had to use ATV remote to turn on then you could you the app. I called many of times to support about it and was always told it was a issue they were working on.

Just in case some Apple folks are reading this, we want NFL! :D

If only. I've been waiting for this to be added for so long. I'm sure it's content deals and contracts and all that, but my god, take my money!

Addresses Parental Controls Australia

Any changelog?

Apple TV Software Update 5.0.2

Feature Summary
Parental Controls Addresses an issue which caused content restrictions to be incorrectly applied for the iTunes Store in Australia.

I hope this fixes the badge notifications on podcasts that always read new podcasts and never go away after having watched them.
I hoped so as well. It didn't. How many months as it been? At least two (maybe three) updates since the update that broke it. If you aren't going to fix it, Apple, just let me rollback my firmware to a version that wasn't broken.

Agreed. Ever since iOS 5 came to the ATV this has been a problem.
