Riots at the factory, release a software update.

Do you really think Apple would be able to formally plann and execute a software within the timeframe of the riot? I guess you don't have much real-world or business experience. It takes weeks of planning and setup to do a release like this.

isi t just me, maybe it was some setting i had thats changed but it seems like while i play music through my apple tv, it makes the tv screen go blank, does that imply its there to make the tv use less power?

thats appreciated by me since i can't afford an airport express for awhile.

Although there's a lot I like about the Apple TV 3, my experience hasn't been great. My main usage is Netflix, and it's constantly getting stuck buffering. I can't make it through an 45 minute TV show without it doing this 3 or 4 times. I don't have the same problem on my PS3 or on my Macs. This is on wired network connection, so wifi is not the issue.

Movie rentals is the other usage. Occasionally we get some server issue and are not able to rent a movie at all and have to give up until the next day.

I've only tried Airplay Mirroring from OS X to it a few times, but I've had a lot of weird issues. Airplay Mirroring from my 4S is strange because it doesn't fill up the whole screen (is there a way to make it do this?); I assume it's trying to match 1:1 pixel ratio, but I wish it had an option to scale.

I use it for audio Airplay occasionally (though I have an Airport Express that I use more), and for that it works great.

Great, I hope that Netflix and renting movies won't take ages to stream. I'm on a 7mbps connection and Netflix stops every 30 seconds or so but not on any other device or computer in the house, and it takes about 2 hours for a movie to be ready to view from iTunes, but not from my computers or iDevices when rented from those in the same house.

Frustrated!

Time to upgrade your speed.

The best day for me would be when Apple connects iTunes to Ultraviolet like Vudu does. Apple would still make the sale but your purchase would be registered to UV so if you wanted to switch ecosystems you could...

UV is a terrible system and I'd rather not see Apple further legitimize it. While many don't like the format of iTunes it is far easier for digital video management than UV and flixster. The last thing I want is for my video collection to be split and giving UV more of a foothold will increase that possiblity.

The best day for me would be when UV dies. That is the worst thing to ever happen to the home entertainment industry and needs to go away

A point update, not a full update to 6.0? I have a feeling we'll be seeing an app store soon with the release of a next generation AppleTV running iOS6.

AppleTV 3 was the "s" version. An all new AppleTV is probably coming soon. Why did they delay the release of iTunes 11 until October? The new iPods are also delayed until October. They must be hiding something in those devices and software that can't yet be revealed. I'm betting on an October event marking the release of a new AppleTV with iOS6, an iPad mini, iTunes 11 and the new iPods.

Just create a US account!

This is a very welcome update (especially account switching, also icon reordering). But Apple TV could be SO much more. And I think it will be, just can't wait for it to happen. Hopefully with some attention to EU, not only US.

Create a US account, buy gift cards from eBay, makes the Apple TV so much better.

Combine this with Netflix, UnblockUS and its our main entertainment hub and I'm in the UK!

Very pleased to see account switching now! Thanks Apple!

And also glad to see more subtitle support. However, exactly what does this entail in the update? I know some iTunes movies I own have subtitles already and show fine as it is.

Ok i just tested out a movie with subtitles and i did notice they fixed the annoying black bar background that would appear everytime the subtitles went on. The subtitle text now perfectly overlays on top of the movie without any annoying black bar background.

Perfect and clean now. I hope they update all movies that already have closed captioning built in to be english subtitled at the very least. I choose subtitles over CC any day.

How about we now add account switching back into iTunes. The stupid Match service effectively disabled all switching, since it will ruin all playlists.

I have a question for you AppleTV owners. I know that an app store would be very cool, but doesn't Airplay let you run any app that you want to on the TV? I ask this because I have been thinking about getting one just so that I can throw content from my iPhone or iPad up to the screen. Is Airplay only enabled on certain apps? Have any of you tried playing a game via Airplay to your TV? It seems like that would be cool, but maybe touch based games don't work so well when using a screen other than the one you're touching.

I always thought this was HBO not Apple... no?

I agree it would be nice to be able to get a few select channels, ala espn, showtime, hbo... :)

Yeah, that's definitely HBO. I'm sure Apple would love to have an HBO app on the AppleTV. HBO doesn't let you use AirPlay from their app either.

Yes, each app has to enable AirPlay.

If you continue to experience long "ready to play times" times when renting movies, keep in mind you can rent it on iTunes on a computer and stream it to your Apple TV.

Yeah, it's only enabled on certain apps, and unfortunately not on some big ones like NFL and HBO Go. Mostly is those pesky licensing issues that shut it down.
