I *REALLY* hope they finally got around to fixing PPTP passthrough. Its been broken in the past 2 firmware updates and they aren't acknowledging it. There are dozens and dozens of posts on their official boards about it. I have tried calling about it and went as far as emailing Steve Jobs. No luck.

Going to update it soon and try it ... *crosses fingers*

Update worked for me

I managed to download the Airport Utility update and then update the firmware on both my Airport Extreme units without a problem. Looking forward to even better performance than I've seen.

Seriously, this is so frustrating, I was really hoping all problems with 5GHz would be fixed by this new firmware.

I have the Late 2009 Airport Extreme Simultaneous Dual-Band II, with the new firmware 7.5.1.

I absolutely can't connect to 5Ghz. When in automatic mode, my Mac mini seems to try to connect to 5GHz, then Connection Timeout happens, and quickly it connects to the 2.4GHz.

When creating a separate network name for the 5GHz, it won't connect at all. I tried waiting several minutes, still can't connect. Tried channels, countries, passwords, network names, mac address filtering. Nothing is making a difference, always Connection Timeout.

And this isn't (or at least it doesn't seem like) my Mac mini's problem, because in the previous firmware, I did manage to connect to the 5GHz, however only when using channels 44 and below.

I have no other Macs, so I can't test the router with other hardware, but it really seems to be the Airport's problem.

I hope someone could help me, or maybe I'll just have to wait for 7.5.2.

Mine is also the first one. Apple sure did complicate things with this "update". Thanks for the clarification. Something Apple didn't do.

I think they expect people to know "Early 2009" and "Late 2009" as the reference for products. They mentioned on the download page link in the first post, but not everyone knows what it refers to.

Shouldn't that be MB763LL/A is the older and the MC340LL/A is the newer?

That is what I said...

There were two Dual-Band models, the MC763LL/A and the MC340LL/A. The latter being the latest model.

Will this show up through Software Update or must you use AirPort Utility?

You said MC... and Intell said MB...

From a quick search, it appears that MB... is correct.

If that is what Intell wanted to point out, correcting the model number would have sufficed. The way it was phrased placed an emphasis on the ordering of the models, not the model numbers themselves.

Older Airport base station

Not sure what model I've got, but it's over five years old. When I clicked on software update, the update showed up and installed properly. It said Airport Base Station Update 2010-001 v 5.5.1.
Soooooooooo... even if you have an older Airport Base Station, there might be an update for you.

Shame that my Airport Extreme (802.11n w/Gigabit Ethernet) is not supported by this new firmware. Was the bug fixed by this update only affecting the Late 2009 models? Mine is a Late 2008 model, but feels brand new.

Airport Utility would be updated for everyone running a compatible version of Mac OS X, but it's the firmware that's not available to older models.

Aloha everyone,

I can't seem to download the update - after I input my Administrator credentials, Software Update just sits there and when I mouse over, I get the infamous beachball of death. It's as if the download never starts. Does anyone know of a direct download link? Mine is definitely the newest one - I just got it a couple of weeks ago :D

EDIT: I forgot to mention that when I invoked Force Quite, it showed Software Update as "Not Responding." I kind of knew that, but I've never seen that on a software update before.

EDIT2: I just called up the Airport Utility app and saw a button to upgrade the firmware, and that went flawlessly. Wanting to verify same, I called up Airport Utility again and saw a notice that I needed to upgrade the firmware yet again. Actually, y'all can see from the screenshot that I was already at 7.5.1 - weird, huh?!?

I updated the firmware on my late 09 router and everything is working fine.

My only complaint is that once it uploaded the new firmware, the device went solid yellow for at least 2 minutes before it started flashing amber. Just a reminder to others that it might take a little longer than you expect and that you shouldn't unplug/restart it lest you mess something up.

OK, now I feel like a complete idiot - it was the Airport Utility that needs to be updated, now that the Airport Extreme's firmware has been updated. When I try to update Airport Utility, however, Software Update hangs. I need to find out how to update the Airport Utility now, it that's possible.
