Been waiting for a while for this one... my TC has been having performance issues for months now, hopefully this fixes it.

Edit: Applied the 7.5.1 update, and so far so good...able to sustain over 10mbytes/sec (peak over 15) throughput when before I had constant hiccups and slow transfers. I just copied 5 gigs wirelessly to my laptop in 6 minutes. Methinks streaming videos will no longer be an issue.

seriously yours peaks over 15! mine peaks at 1.5 at the most - and yes i'm on Wireless N 5GHZ only, 24 Multicast Rate :(

So this solves some issues. In true Apple style - I wonder what other issues these updates will create?

Just a word of caution as someone else has already mentioned, it takes several minutes for the AE to restart after the update. I was about to reset it because it was taking so long, but it finally came back up. No issues now.

Shame that my Airport Extreme (802.11n w/Gigabit Ethernet) is not supported by this new firmware. Was the bug fixed by this update only affecting the Late 2009 models? Mine is a Late 2008 model, but feels brand new.

hahahaha what the hell does that even mean? FEELS BRAND NEW? How can a piece of solid state hardware "feel brand new"?

I bought mine as soon as the 2TB came out last year... then a very short time later these new models came out. Wish they'd fix the issues I'm having, but I guess they don't care.

Hopefully this firmware update doesn't break the wonderful "unsupported" functionality allowing me to perform Time Machine backups to an external drive connected to my Airport Extreme via USB. Can somebody please confirm this still works after the firmware upgrade?

This isn't "unsupported", its been supported for a very long time. I'd test it out for you, but I'm stuck on 7.4.1 on my original (slow ethernet) AEBS. I can't even upgrade to 7.4.2, which is the latest that brings wake-on-demand, because it makes disk sharing buggy.

So, I can choose between WOD or Time Machine. I know at least one person that has this same issue.

Disk sharing also fails in 7.4 and 7.4.1, not only 7.4.2. So there is no working option.

This is weird. My Airport is at 7.4.2 and check for updates returns nothing.

It's under a year old, but perhaps by late 2009 they mean October or something? Seems odd that 7.4.2 is the most recent I can get, though.

Just downloaded and installed software/firmware updates. I can confirm that time machine still works through airport. For some reason, however, I had to attach the HDD to my laptop and repair the disk before I could use the disk with time machine.

That seems to be the standard firmware for older models including my first generation 500GB Time Capsule.

My only complaint is that once it uploaded the new firmware, the device went solid yellow for at least 2 minutes before it started flashing amber.

More than 5 minutes here. Were just about to unplug for a restart!

Aloha everyone,

I can't seem to download the update - after I input my Administrator credentials, Software Update just sits there and when I mouse over, I get the infamous beachball of death. It's as if the download never starts. Does anyone know of a direct download link? Mine is definitely the newest one - I just got it a couple of weeks ago :D

EDIT: I forgot to mention that when I invoked Force Quite, it showed Software Update as "Not Responding." I kind of knew that, but I've never seen that on a software update before.

EDIT2: I just called up the Airport Utility app and saw a button to upgrade the firmware, and that went flawlessly. Wanting to verify same, I called up Airport Utility again and saw a notice that I needed to upgrade the firmware yet again. Actually, y'all can see from the screenshot that I was already at 7.5.1 - weird, huh?!?

>EDIT2:
First update must have been the firmware update on your Airport Extreme box to ver. 7.5.1
Second update is the upgrade of the utility software to ver. 5.5.1

Can someone help me out here, please. I downloaded the firmware update but I can't find it anywhere. Opened Airport Utility and it shows nothing to update. What gives? Thanks. My firmware is currently at 7.4.2.

You probably have an older model which does not require a firmware update. 7.4.2 is the latest for many of us with older units.

you can force-download any version of the firmware for any airport device from inside the airport utility by holding down option-command and then going to airport utility-->check for updates.

it won't let you shoehorn the latest on an older model, but it will give you an idea of what's out there - and allow you to retro back to an earlier version should you need to.

What am I using g or n

When I connect my MBP to an Airport Extreme, how can I tell if I am using the g network or the n network?

Thanks

Add me to the list of those that have the newer AE (late 2009) and can only get firmware version 7.4.2 Like everyone else I was able to get AU 5.5.1 with no problem.

YES I am sure I have the late 2009 version of the AE...I specifically waited for it to be in stock when I heard it was coming out.

So there is no manual download link on the apple site for 7.5.1...how long do we think it will take to get there?

If you open Network Utility in Applications>Utilities and select Network Interface (en1) The model should say Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g/n). If is doesn't you may need to try a different Network Interface. But you want to look at the Link Speed. If it's over 54 Mbits it's running on N. If it's under 54 it's running on G. Of course the further away you get from the Airport Extreme the lower it will get. If you are right next to it, it should read something around 300 Mbits, I think.

Or A.

disk sharing/ time machine on usb

Disk sharing also fails in 7.4 and 7.4.1, not only 7.4.2. So there is no working option.

My experience has been (with two separate Extremes currently running- one early 2009 [Dual Band], one late 2008 [single band]) that disk/ network sharing works fine on 7.4.2, but Time Machine does not. I have been using Time Machine on my USB connected drive with 7.4.1 since it came out. 7.4.2 killed it, so I downgraded back to 7.4.1 and haven't had any issues. I was hoping this would apply to my devices and fix these issues of instability, but it doesn't. Oh well. Honestly, everything works fine for my needs on my two devices. Networked drive access and everything works great on 7.4.2, Time Machine working great on other device with 7.4.1. 7.4.1 device is also hosting three expresses with nary an issue.

Need Help!! My Internet connection has become ridiculously slow when more than 3 devices are connected. Ive already contacted my isp but it seems that the connection is fine. This started to occur after i updated the airport utility. My time capsule (still 7.4.something) hasnt been able to download the update.

500GB Time Capsule

I had one of the original 500GB Time Capsules, and just yesterday, I got an alert from Software Update saying that an AEBS 5.5.1 update was out.

I did have my Time Capsule replaced last year under applecare as something went faulty, but Apple said it was a like for like replacement as they didn't make the 500gb models anymore..

Am i safe to install this update?!
