Hi all,

I just upgraded my (old) Time Capsule to firmware 7.4.1 this morning. After upgrading it seemed that my wireless network was not working anymore ( I had my capsule creating a 802.11n only (5GHz) network). I could not see the network from the macs that previously worked, nor could I connect to that network.

Resetting . rebooting both the capsule and the macs did not resolve. also reconfiguring the capsule brought no relief. All other functions of the capsule are OK.

When I switch back to 2.4 GHz (802.11n only (2.4GHz)) I saw the network again, and could use it. So: only 5GHz does not seem to work properly after firmware upgrade ...

Any ideas from the community how to fix this ?
Are there more people with the same issue ? For now I moved back to the previous version of the firmware....

Rudi

I have the same problem rudi, really annoying ...

And Back to My Mac does not work for me, it won't work if your router is not directly connected to the internet... Double NAT issue ... grrr ...

For those having trouble with the 5Ghz Wireless N, try setting your network to be a "open" network. I.e. the SSID is broadcast. I had a lot of problems with mine with both a Wireless N airport express connecting to an Airport Extreme as well as my MBP and iMac at Wireless N. It seems to work when the network is "open". Mine's been running fine for the last 12 hours.

Hopefully Apple will fix this soon and we can go back to our usual settings.

Tried this and EUREKA! As soon as I switched from "Closed" to "Open", my AE-n came back into the list for the Airport Utility, and connected to my wireless network as it was before. C'mon Apple, let us go back to "Closed" networks! :D

Quick question - I just purchased an older version Time Capsule. Upgraded to the latest firmware - set up the mobile me info within the Airport Utility. I have a trial version of mobile me - will I be able to see my time capsule files within mobile with a trial version??

If so, where am I supposed to be looking??

dunno can only tell you what the tests tell me. When i take the wan back to automatic, the speeds go down. When I put the 1000 on, it shoots up. This is over wifi too. it looks and feels faster. That's all i know

Last Result:
Download Speed: 48938 kbps
Upload Speed: 12073 kbps

The full-duplex could certainly have something to do with that. Also, with automatic it may have been frequently renegotiating the speed between 100 and 1000, causing constant mini-dropouts.

I once fixed a friend's networking problem by forcing their network card to 10 Mbps... it kept thinking it could do 100 over the long, old network cable, and it couldn't sustain the connection.

Doesn't work for Family Pack users!

I am really excited about this feature, and it works great for me. Unfortunately, and this is a huge failure, I have to choose whether to register my wife's Mobileme account or mine on the Airport Extreme. In other words, only she or I can access the USB drives. Apple needs to figure out a way to allow all members of a family pack to access the drive. My wife and I both use it at home and giving access to only one of us on the road is only a half-solution at best.

Yep, this is a must for me too. Everything is working for me though. Even managed to stream a film from my TC while away from home.

Unlikely this will solve the problem, your wireless network will disappear again, it's just a matter of time, it happened to me already...

Anyway, I never used closed network (paranoia ^^) and still got the problem... so ? Apple fix this asap please because I can't use your neat back to my mac feature and I am a member of mobileme...

Is this BTMM working behind a corporate firewall ? Because I want to access my files from work... :apple:

And last but not least, I still need to find a way to fix the dual NAT issue, because my main modem can't do bridge mode and I don't want to put my Time Capsule in bridged mode...

Ok, so. Just to be clear I'm not doing anything wrong.

- I've configured my routers Nat and UPNP settings at home so that when i activate back to my mac in the mobile me control panel. I get the green light saying its working

-I have a USB stick plugged into my Airport Extreme with the new firmware

-I've filled in the mobile me settings in the airport utility control panel.

Should I need to do anything else to see my drive when connected to the internet and outside my network? (obviously assuming the other network that I'm gives me green lights in back to my mac, indicating it should work. Do I need to also tick 'share files over internet' in the airport express or give my Airport Extreme a 'global name'

Well, I installed the update.

I am not impressed at the moment as my time capsule now keeps dropping out and requires a reset in order to fire up again. Really annoying when backing up.

Back to mac doesn't work. I have full mobileme and have input the details into the time capsule. When I am local it all works, but when I am away it shows up under shared, but cannot connect. I may call apple support if I get some time and recover from my birthday hangover!

Wierd....Airport utility connects to my time capsule even though I am on a remote WIFI
I can connect to the disks using AFP, but the shared thing on finder just will not work.

Weird!

I had the same problem. Seems older draft N macs don't see the extended 5Ghz range. in the airport admin utility, under "wireless" the channel says "automatic". option-click and select one of the channels in the double digits.

Hope that helps.

Doesn't help in my case. I also have erratic dropouts. I've already spent some hours yesterday and today trying all kind of configurations etc.

After rebooting and some fumbling, I can always get it to work again, but it doesn't stay stable for long - at most some hours.

I tried a factory reset yesterday, but that made zero difference to my problem.

Is it safe to go back to 7.3.x?

i am having the same issue
went to my friends house, and tried connecting to my aebs, and nothing, entered my mobile me info and still nothing!

Try unplugging the AE for 30 seconds and plugging it back again...my Apple TV wasn't being recognized either, probably because of some stuck DNS or IP number...it should work after that.

After upgrading everything seems to be working and I can see TC from my work machine, but can not print. I can see the printer, but no print. Might go back to old firmware, not sure what the difference is between Back to Mac with iDisk and TC.

Update: Sorry. Printer problem after all, not firmware related.

Problems connecting to N Network on Vista PC

After I made the 7.4.1 update, my Vista PC can no longer connect to the wireless N (2.4 GHz) network. Have updated everything on the PC but it is a "no go". As soon as I revert back to V. 7.3.2 of the firmware all works again. Looks like I will have to stay at 7.3.2 until apple works out the bugs.

Just another data point I want to add:

I have a wireless bridge in my house setup between an AEBS (gig) and an AE(N) that was working flawlessly at 7.3.2 -- The AEBS is set to N only & 5ghz only. The AE is set to extend the closed N network and it also bridges for my stero cabinet in the living room so that my Tivo and tuner have Internet access. I have an aluminum iMac that attaches to this N newtork as well.

Post 7.4.1 update the following happened: The AE could no longer connect to the closed network (this is already documented in this thread) but even after opening the network i was seeing 30% PACKET LOSS across the bridge!!! 7.3.2 could go over 1000 packets without loosing a single one. Also, my iMac started experiencing problems joining the closed N network (maybe it is b/c it is draft N?) and it would flap in and out of the network.

After almost two hours of troubleshooting and discovering/confirming many of the things already listed in the thread I have decided that NONE of the new features are worth the pain and suffing I've been going through so I went back to 7.3.2--where I can just plug my external USB drive into my Mac Pro and it will be available via Back to my Mac, I don't really need to have it plugged into my AEBS...

Also, I'd like to second the request for a better solution for Family Pack users. My wife and I each have our own accounts--what are we supposed to do form a shared storage perspective? I understand that we're probably in the minority and don't deserve a solution but I still want Apple to know that we're out here (of course currently we don't have shared storage so Back to My Mac covers us)

I'll second that. 5 Mac users in my house so it would have been nice to have more than one account be able to access the shared drive.

I have a macbook pro late 2008...

I've never had any problems with my Time Capsule until I applied this update. Now my computers (new MacBooks) can't connect after waking from sleep about 75% of the time. All updates have been performed on both computers. How can I revert back to 7.3.2 on my Time Capsule? I cannot find the 7.3.2 firmware anywhere for download and the revert button is greyed out in my Airport Utility. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Nevermind. For some reason when I go into Airport Utility it now gives me the option to downgrade back to 7.3.2. Not sure how or why this just showed up.

I reverted back to the previous firmware on my month old Airport Extreme.
The AEBS would constantly drop internet connection on my Macbook Pro and have to be reset ( though curiously, the XBOX and iPod Touch also running off of the AEBS seemed unaffected with this problem).
Anyway, with the earlier firmware back all is well again.

Wait, wait... I'm confused. For those of you concerned about "registering a specific mobileme name" with the Time Capsule:

Can't you share a disk over the internet ALREADY? I mean PRIOR to the firmware update... I haven't personally tried it yet, going to "Disks" and checking "Share disks over WAN" would seem to be exactly what we are talking about... right?
