I just hope they fix the new AirPort Utility so it has all the advanced features of the old one somewhere. The new feature of selecting more than one AirPort to update them all at once would also be great.

Holy.... big is your house?

Ha. Not big. 3 level townhouse. I just wasn't gonna take anything less than the full 75 Mbps in every corner! Actually use them as hubs at the entertainment centers and try and hardwire everything I can to avoid interference from the other houses. If Ethernet isn't available 5GHz wireless is my next choice. 2.4 GHz is a last resort.

You either live in a castle, or you need some serious counseling.:D

My wife tells me I need counseling all the time. :)

Not affraid of wireless overdose?

I keep a close eye on the cats. :)

I've battled Apple for *MONTHS* with this issue (started within 24 hous of receiving my 5th gen TC in March).

Eventually, I filed a chargeback claim through my bank/credit card and got the money back (along with a £100 goodwill gesture from Apple).

It really was a painful experience that ran from March to a couple of weeks ago (when the unit finally went back).

No such issues with my 6th gen.

Had the same thing with an older unit...It was way out of warranty, so it now lives in my fiancees old place and her family use it as a dumb repeater...As you say, the new ones are fine.

I have the 1st gen Airport Extreme and the 7.6.4 caused DNS issues with roadrunner (it would not connect). I had to downgrade to 7.6.3 for everything to work properly.

I have the 802.11ac AirPort Time Capsule with two latest generation AirPort Express' connected via Cat6 / 500Mbs HomePlug. Can anyone tell me if there are any marked improvements especially with iPads? My sister cannot get proper reception from either the Time Capsule or the Express and her room is less than 15M from both of them.

Never mind about the Time Capsule - Apparently this update isn't for ac devices! But any improvements on the Express - let me know :)
You might have the TC too close to the Express, try moving one of them.

I have a very old version of the utility for doing more advanced tweaks. The firmware is distinct from the airport utility. You can run updated firmware and have the old full featured airport utility talk to the router. I have this setup just for serious tweaking.

You can give it up if you move to Mavericks. 5.6 will no longer work. As another poster said earlier, in Mountain Lion you had to go through some gyrations with Terminal to extract the program manually, but it would run. On Mavericks it won't even run. Bummer.

Hmm, I keep getting a download error (-6721) for my Airport Express (1st gen). Probably will try it again later.

Good news on the iOS connectivity loss fix.

Edit: fixed it after resetting my AE to the factory settings.

Isn't that a little "extreme" (no pun intended)....so I'd have to put in all my custom port forwards again, etc? Or can I backup my config, reset to factory settings, apply the update, and import my old config file?

This is sad... I still use 5.6 in ML constantly. The new tool still just isn't the same, and is a real bummer

Am I the only one who hardly does any updates with my airports??!! If my AirPort goes down, then I go down. No WiFi... no dice!!

I try to do software updates after a 2-4wk grace period on my Macs & iOS devices, but my AirPorts get no love... I hate updating my AirPort, and I still won't update till there is a solid solid reason to.

My next update will probably be the hardware update for the new AC generation AirPorts... I'll give a year though after their release a couple months ago. I just hate software updates in general, especially premature ones for a WiFi device...

Thank goodness. I've been having pretty bad intermittent wifi drop outs on all our iOS devices in the house with our new Airport Time Capsule. Can't wait to install this fix after work.

Same here. It didn't seem to have a pattern. Just sometimes my iphone and ipad would drop off the network, while most other devices seemed fine. I asked my girlfriend and she said her iPhone did too, sometimes, and thought it was just her.
Really hoping this solves it!

I agree. I don't dislike the interface of the new version, and would get used to it if it had the Advanced options that the older version offered. Maybe I'll create a VM of ML and use it exclusively to make router config changes. :D

After a good 6 months to fix the problems that came with 7.6.3, Apple has failed again.

Music dropouts continue to plague the system under 7.6.4.

Streaming music from Laptop to my Airport Express music cuts out.

Absolutely ridiculous how Apple can't get it right!!!!

Downgrading AGAIN to 7.6.1

Maybe you shouldn't blame Apple, but YOURSELF. It works for everyone else. I've never had a problem with my Airport Express.

Every time I update the Time Capsule I some how ruin the back up ability and I have to figure out how to fix it. I am probably going to hold off on this one until I get my new Macbook Pro set up with the back up from the TC.

I stream "music" to my Airport Express 802.11n (1st Gen) almost 24x7. We stream some white noise to it from my iTunes server in the basement with almost no issues. We just let it run 24x7 because it is easier to turn off the speakers than it is to boot up the remote app and stop the stream.

Once every few days or so, the stream will get interrupted and stop, but hitting play will let it run for another 3-4 days (at least) with a single interruption. Completely wireless.

I'm going to say it's a problem with either your particular Airport units or your setup.

I seem to have tried numerous fixes and the dropouts are consistent. And downgrading to 7.6.1 fixes the problem 100%

I would love for this to work, but can't impinge what is causing the dropouts.

I have an Airport Extreme delivering a dual band network.

I have an airport express (with firmware 7.6.4) that logs into either the 2.4 or 5ghz network (it drops music on either network).

I have a Macbook Pro that logs in to either the 2.4 or 5ghz network (music drops out no matter which network it connects to).

I run iTunes and select the airport express via airplay as the speaker.

Under 7.6.4 and 7.6.3 there are dropouts with the music. Under 7.6.1 there aren't.

I am completely open to ideas and options.

I have also tried setting the channel automatically and manually. Still get music dropouts.

I would love a solution.

Upgraded my Extreme and Express with no problems (knock on wood). Tested ipv6 sites and that works too. Previous firmware broke my ipv6 configuration.

Thanks for the heads up. I was still secretly hoping that my late 2012 Mac Mini had the new 802.11 in it like when they hid it in the 2006 iMacs and you had to buy an update for 99¢.
