Apple yesterday released AirPort Client Update for MacBook and MacBook Pro, addressing issues with AirPort performance on OS X 10.5.8 while running on battery power. This update is recommended for some Intel-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS X v10.5.8 and addresses an issue with AirPort performance while running on battery power. It may only be installed on:

MacBook (13-inch, Late 2007)
MacBook (13-inch, Early 2008)
MacBook (13-inch, Late 2008)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2008)
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2008)
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2008)A number of users in Apple's discussion forums had reported substantial speed drops and latency increases over Wi-Fi when running on battery power after applying the OS X 10.5.8 update released last week, and this AirPort update appears to address those specific issues. The update weighs in at 1.68 MB and requires OS X 10.5.8.

I have a late 2008 and it says my computer does not meet the requirements. I also have 10.8.

That might be your problem.

Then again could it be that the update is for Broadcom instead of Atheros chipsets or vice versa

So this actually did fix some latency issues I was having post 10.5.8 on my early 2008 MBP. Highly recommended for anyone else having wireless performance issues post 10.5.8.

I have late 2008 13" macbook unibody with 10.5.8 and it also says my computer does not meet the requirements!

I'm getting the same message. I have an early 2008 unibody MacBook. Perhaps one needs to be on a network with an airport router to "meet the hardware requirements"? I'm not currently using my airport extreme, but I have one.

I am trying to install the update on my 2.4 GHz Aluminum UniBody 13" MacBook running 10.5.8. However, I get the error message saying that it does not meet system requirements. Why is this? Any fixes? Thanks!

This should prevent, from say, nearly flinging the laptop across the room when I'm trying to watch Hulu in bed as it keeps pausing to buffer for the 50th time during Daily Show?

[Sorry I am not really sure what terms like 'latency' and whatnot mean. I just want my internet to work like it used to and not have webpages take forever to load. Excuse the ignorance]

I thought it was clear reading the article but I guess it was an assumption on my part; I don't believe this update is for any unibody notebook.

So, how can I download this patch if I can't get internet at all after the 10.5.8 update? Can I download it here at work to a thumb drive or something?

Not so.
