ok, can someone explain the 1000 charges to me? it doesn't sound like much to me. My laptops are constantly being plugged and unplugged.

Just because it is plugged in does not mean it is charging. The charging controller determines what cells need how much current to charge. It shuts off the charger when the cell is filled up. Apple is basically attempting to do what Tesla Motors did for their Roadster car. The intelligence is in the charging system.

Looks like no easy access to the hard drive once again.

First Apple giveth, then they taketh

What?

So longer battery life? Thats it? Are you serious? Whey didn't they update it 3 months ago with the others? It takes three months to make a battery:eek:? Wow. And cmon this is the best thing introduced today:(. And I was all siked:mad: What the hell apple? Schiller wasnt even a good speaker:confused: I want jobs back, iPhone nano, 160 gb classic, new mac mini, and new imac. Ughhh.

gobsmackingly disappointing keynote. the latest macbooks dont have this new tech battery ? that was a kick in the nuts

I know a few people who use laptops, they take out the battery and use the power cord to power the laptop- Saves the charges. They then place the battery in the laptop when they are on the go...... Apple has made this imposable to do now, but it may work..... I wonder how accurate the "100 charge" thing really is, just like the 8 hour battery life. It will only be 8 hours, if you keep it at their settings, no bright screens, no movie watching or gaming,

Positive:

Matte option

Negative:

-Non-removable battery. If they had introduced battery with 8 hours / 1000 cycles using silver zinc I would've been impressed but this is yet another Li-ion. What if the new battery goes sony? Since its internal it can't expand without damaging other components (Phil said its packed extremely tight and close to other components).
-No Bluray

The anti-glare option is welcome. It was clear to me that Apple made a mistake in not offering a matte option last time round.

I'm dubious about the fixed battery. I use my MBP plugged in 90% of the time. It is on fairly constantly, and that can harm the battery over time. So I take the battery out and just run on the mains. That wouldn't be an option with a fixed battery.

How much do you want to bet that this "non user-replaceable battery" can be easily replaced afterall? They called the Macbook Air's battery non user-replaceable, but it is trivial to take the bottom off the machine and change the battery; it's not soldered in.

I bet changing the battery won't be impossible; the only downside will be that you won't be able to do it quickly and without tools, so carrying a spare around will be impossible.

I think the 60% increase in battery life will silence the complainers of an internal battery... For the most part at least. 8 hours! Wow. And the matte finish is also a nice little add-on for those whom require. Nicely done Apple.

No no no no no.

The correct procedure for a li-ion laptop used as a desktop is to remove the battery and store it in a cool environment at 40-60% charge, which can reduce loss to under 5% per year. Unless this is some magical new chemistry which means the battery works better at constant top-up and higher temperature, a non-removable battery is an insult to any green policy, as well as taking control out of the hands of the user (I'll replace the battery when and how I want without having to give my hardware to someone else, thanks).

Anyway, looking forward to the Mac Mini, if only because I want to see Apple not completely leaving the market segment most interesting to me with my enthusiast hat on.

Wake up Schiller!

Hey Schiller just so you know, its a MACBOOK PRO little buddy. Not a macbook. Okay. The day there is a macbook with a 17" screen is the day that bush is a genious.

Is it still possible to change the ram or hard drive yourself? I noticed that the bottom of the 17in now has no panels. Does this mean that you will be unable to upgrade the ram or hard drive unless you purchase it from Apple when you order it?

ordered. can't imagine any complaints for my use. i am amazed how 80% of the postings are complaints of some sort. go outside, take a walk........

Jobs has a way of communicating with the people. Phill, he just talks at the people, no expression, nothing.

Any chance for a new ipod 160GB classic, wont be untill the fall, when the ipods come out.
