So the silver of the new keyboard will match the studio displays right? That's the whole point.

shakes fist at apple if they are even one color shade off! LOL>

I upgraded from the Space Gray Magic Keyboard with Num Pad to the new Silver/Black Magic Keyboard with Num Pad & Touch ID. Build quality is exactly the same and the keys even feel the same.
I upgraded from the exact same keyboard and I can confirm the feel of the new one is exactly the same

Probably you haven't tried really erognomic-designed mice then
Most people who say the Magic Mouse isn’t ergonomic are trying to palm it, which is pretty unergonomic. If you use a fingertip grip though, it’s quite nice! It’s sort of like holding a pencil but with your fingers wide apart.

Actually they came with the iMac Pro as well. But no one remembers the iMac Pro, so not surprising this is already forgotten.
Not quite. The iMac Pro came with Space Gray and Black accessories, not Silver and Black. Additionally, though they did come with a black Lightning cable, it wasn’t braided and used USB-A, not USB-C.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I upgraded from the Space Gray Magic Keyboard with Num Pad to the new Silver/Black Magic Keyboard with Num Pad & Touch ID. Build quality is exactly the same and the keys even feel the same.
When I tried out the new white/silver version last year, it felt much cheaper than the space gray version. Maybe the new silver/black version uses better material and that's why it's $20 more. But the white/silver version felt cheaper in my opinion and even the typing felt different. That's one of the reasons I returned it and stuck with my space gray versions. Maybe I should try to new versions just to see how they feel.

No one's been able to answer my question..what is the silver and black keyboard supposed to MATCH with?? is it just a novelty thing to have something different?

I notice that there is a texture difference between the Magic Keyboards with white keys and those with black keys. I’m not the only one who noticed that either. Maybe that is the difference you noticed? Either way, this feels and looks almost identical to my old one, other than the silver deck and more rounded corners. (Also Touch ID on M-based Macs is awesome).

It is supposed to match Apple displays (Studio Display and Pro XDR Display): black glass and keys, silver enclosure.
ok thanks for the clarification, tho I have a sneaky feeling the people on here who are clamoring for the black/silver keyboards all own a $5k displays. I think it would atrocious alongside the 24" iMac's white trim

Apple just continues to do the bare minimum here.

So frustrating

Sell more variations, in more colors, add backlighting, cut off the numpad, make a more ergonomic mouse option, move the port so it can be used plugged in (in case one has a Mac Mini with garbage Bluetooth)… on and on..

They do basically nothing - just add colors and keep milking

Out of curiosity does anyone know the answer to this:

Say my family all have a M Chip MacBook. We use the laptop as a laptop when away at work or at school/university.

When back at home we use it in clamshell mode. So can anyone just plug into the monitor and authenticate the laptop using Touch ID on these keyboards?

Or is the Touch ID on the keyboard limited to a single laptop? And then requires unpairing and repairing to the other laptop?

For example on many Bluetooth keyboards you have buttons for Bluetooth 1, 2, 3 and 4 to pair up to 4 devices…

I knew something like this was going to happen when Apple discontinued the Space Gray Mac accessories 10 months ago, that they would come back in some form with the keyboard having Touch ID. And I will admit, the fact that they still have black makes them look pretty cool, like the MacBook Air and Pro keyboards or the older Apple Pro Keyboards.

They used to sell the space grey keyboards separately? I thought the only way to get it was to get an iMac Pro

More great apple products.

With ****** lighting ports.

It’s 2022 and apple continue to use lightning…

Even the iPad Air has USB C now.

NOT INTERESTED IN ANY APPLE PRODUCT WITH LIGHTNING.

In no rush to buy.

Um, OK. Byeeeeeeeeeeeee.

I bought the Magic Keyboard a Magic Trackpad but I agree with the general comment. I can understand why it’s hard for Apple to get away with Lightning on iPhone (as much as I would prefer USB-C), but there’s no reason that Mac accessories use lightning. Apple uses no lightning port on any Mac hardware except these three accessories, and it would be one cable less to use on any Mac (which are all already using USB-C anyway)

Slow down! I still use the 30pin connector!

touch id pairs with a single laptop

It works fine with a 2013 trashcan Mac Pro, BTW.
Can't speak for the touch ID, because I work at home and don't need it.

While there's a difference in generations of keyboards with TouchID, is there any difference between generations of the 'Magic Trackpad 2' and 'Magic trackpad mutli-touch'?

Can anyone confirm if the new one is BT5? I've had a bit of interference as an issue with the older model.
