Either Apple believes Chrome+their extension is secure, or they don’t. They’re not gonna risk releasing this and then back paddling by blaming Google.
Yep, thanks for telling me that. Classic and typical MR. Always blaming Apple even when the developer is in the wrong. SMH.

I didn't say Apple doesn't care about the security of it's users (obviously they do) I was saying that they are not putting forth resources making sure Chrome is secure for its iCloud system. That's on Google, just as it is it's users who choose to use Chrome rather than Safari.

You said "Apple doesn't care about security on Chrome" which is obviously nonsense. They clearly care deeply, and trust in that security, or they wouldn't take the risk.

What? Blaming Apple for what? What are you on about?
If some bad actor writes and extension on Chrome .. that farms all you passwords ... Google are not actually known for security .. and chrome is one of the best examples of Swiss cheese ... at least in many users eyes, not to mention the Hugh resource issue on any platform using Chrome .. so if this happens people will blame apple and not Google ....

if it was available also for Firefox .. then i'm sure many people would be more comfortable ..

To have a good-enough experience. But for the best experience, get a Mac.

At least, that's traditionally been Apple's approach. If they're abandoning that, I think they're making a grave mistake.
the experience isn’t “good enough”. lots of people like my brother and cousin abandoned iCloud photos because the experience completely sucks on Windows. as a result, my brother moved off of iphone and bought a Samsung Galaxy instead. “good enough” would have kept my brother in the Apple ecosystem.

Customers won’t know whether to blame Apple or Google, and they’ll be unhappy either way. So Apple, again, will have put effort into making this scenario unlikely.

That’s a bummer, and it needs to get better then. I just don’t agree that “better experience” needs to equal a full-blown Photos for Windows with editing support.

If it were available for Firefox, not enough people would care to matter. Firefox is dead, Mozilla just hasn't realized it yet.

Apple did it with iTunes and it has worked out well for them. Apple Photos for Windows is going to prevent more people from switching to Android than losing number of potential Mac switchers because they need a better Photos solution.

Doesn’t need editing support IMO. It simply needs better access and organization methods.

I would never use Photos.app on the Mac. Why in the world would I use it on Windows?

I hope this paves the way for some kind of history syncing that can be used on Windows PCs also... With no Safari for Windows, I'm left to use some Chrome-based browser (Edge, Brave, Chrome, etc) and I'd love to be able to sync my browsing history over.

There is the major issue. It's a bit too little too late. Most Windows users have moved to 1Password, Lastpass, or other cross-platform solutions and won't come back to keychain now.

And this doesn't solve the browser issue. Passwords are great, but if you want to sync history/settings/etc from PC to iOS you have to use a 3rd party browser. No one is going to start using Safari who wasn't before without their history just for passwords that they could already do with any 3rd party password manager.

The Chrome bookmarks sync via iCloud extension Apple has barely works, it is finicky as heck.

Another problem is porting. There is no way to get passwords in or out of keychain without a Mac. All the others, at least the major players, you can export your lists out in a basic .csv file and imported into any other. So you get stuck with it; it's just not worth it for most who don't just use Apple stuff.

Thanks - do you have a link to the updated one? The one that me and others are seeing as the current one hasn't been updated since 1st Feb 2019.
I think you expect release date on the store to be the date of last update. Anyway I don’t know of other peculiarities of the store, but you will also need a recent version of Windows 10 as well.

I have just successfully downloaded and installed iCloud 12.0.188.0 from the Microsoft Store.

Have fun people!

The iCloud password extension suddenly stopped working for me today in Chrome. It keeps telling me to download iCloud for Windows, which, of course, I have and it's enabled to share passwords. The Microsoft Store confirms I'm using the most up-to-date version of iCloud for Windows.

The extension itself is giving me this error:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'g_theState' of undefined
at window.onload (page_popup.js:1)

I managed to resolve this by basically reinstalling both the iCloud for Windows app from the Microsoft store and the iCloud Passwords extension from the Chrome store. Otherwise, it always told me to download the iCloud for Windows app even though it was installed and running in the foreground at the time.
