against other manufacturer's offerings both spec and pricewise?

### Alienware is still significantly better in terms of performance specs. For $2700, you can build an Alienware with RAID HDs, etc. Biggest question for me is...is Apple still underclocking the GPU on the 15" model...??? To me, Apple's MBPs aren't as good as a value as their Mac Pro, but with this update, Apple's "in the ballpark"...and I would get the MBP over the Alienware...assuming Autodesk releases a UB of Maya soon. My two cents...

Does it come with the trolley needed to carry it? We're talking notebooks here :)

do you guys think i should just go ahead and buy a macbook then? i would love a MBP, but its to expensive.. im just a highschool student, and the black would really be great.

i dont know what to do :(

If you need it now buy it now! But when the macbooks get upgraded they may have a price drop and more ram and faster CPU and maybe even better graphics, just wait aslong as you can and if they havent had upgrades then your just gunna have to live with that..

I have compared the tech specs to the google cache. The battery time has been updated from 4.5 to 5 hours on the 15 inch. 17 inch remained the same.

Just for the record...

Just a note. If you look at the average of the average time between updates you discover that there are, amongst all the products, a 192 days period between updates.

Currently only 177 days have passed since the last update to the MBP. Oct 26 would be Mac Expo in the UK. If they anounced then (185 days) and shipped one week later they would be at the average (192 exactly).

Also noting that major US and Euro retailers are out of stock or low on stock is also a fairly good indicator.

Finally, I think it would be pretty damn sad if after 192 days of updating they merely give us a .16 processor upgrade...

/4 cents and counting

Heres a pic if anyone has missed it.

Check out the footnote to the Swiss site (where the text is correct)

Die Tests wurden von Apple im Mai 2006 mit Prototypen des 2 GHz MacBook und aktuellen 1,42 GHz PowerPC G4 basierten iBook G4 Computern durchgeführt.

This is great news. If the macbooks go Core 2 Duo then I will have a very difficult decision to make. Regardless I'm going to hold for about 3 weeks to see how these things work out for everyone. If they are, for the most part, problem free then I'm all over this.

What about those of us that bought MBP's in August? The upgrades weren't in the forcast! Ugh, I really hate it when this happens!

That's why you should have been patient. :)

Now that they got that out of the way...

Video iPod on thanksgiving. I would bet money on it.

That'll really knock the wind out of Zune.

The 17" is cheaper by the way if you opt for the 100GB drive. In the last revision you didn't get a price drop on it. Now you do. With a higher education discount I could get a beast of a machine for the price of a 15" MBP.

in other news ...

The MacBook Pro isn't the only model to get attention today. The iMac is now available with a 750 GB hard drive, for $200 more than the 500 GB drive. Good news for storing DVDs or high-def programs.

whats funny is that I walked into the Mac Store yesterday, the guy new everything about the product but seemed a little too clueless about the product cycle.
Mac Store employees *don't* know anything specific about product updates.

There's almost 1000 Apple store employees worldwide. If they knew details, don't you find it really, really odd that none of them leaked any?

I notice the apple store defaulted to a glossy screen, does anyone know if changing that to matte classes as a customization in the return policy?

Thanks!

Glossy v. Matte?

What are peeps' opinion on the screen options?
I have never used glossy. Looks alright, in person. Not sure how it would be for everyday use tho...

Otherwise, nice update.

And they delayed this update by 6-8 weeks for ... ?

Would/Should we have waited if we knew then what we know now and will know in the future ?
:(

Probably because they needed to wait for sufficient stocks of the faster merom chips (you don't see many of the 2.3GHz offerings from other manufacturers, either). Now I just have to decide if I want to lug a macpro across the pond or go for a 17" mbp.

cheers.

Finally, no more need for 600 threads about the C2D MacBook Pros.

Of course, now we're going to get 600 threads about the C2D MacBooks. :(

I hope so! But if I get a MPB then theres no way I could get a ipod video. Ohwell I would be getting a 2.33ghz core 2 duo 15.4inch macbook pro with 2gb of ram, good grpahics, Dual 6x Double Layer Superdrive, FW800, FW400, Two USBs, 120gb!

IMHO--A solid upgrade. Same price point but more memory, more video ram, fw 800, dual layer burner.

I'm jealous! I have a the original Macbook Pro. But my laptop was just fine yesterday so I won't be upgrading til the next major upgrade.

No, RAM from any PPC Mac won't work in any Intel Mac. Apple use a different type of RAM in their Intel machines and whilst all Intel Macs (aside from the Mac Pro) use the same type of RAM the same isn't true of the old PPC Macs.

Your 1GB stick won't work at all.

Cheers - I suspected as much.

Looking forward to replacing it next year tho' - by then under £1500 is going to go along way - plus my wife qualifies for a discount because she works for the NHS.
