Welcome aboard! You got "the works" I see! 3rd-party RAM is definitely cheaper (try http://eshop.macsales.com ). BTW, the iSight has a magnet mount included, allowing it to attach to the top of a Cinema Display (or older G5 iMac) with no clamps or adhesive. Pretty clever--they had to build the magnet into the display I believe, at the center.zugzuglani said:I ordered my G5 Quad as soon as apple store came on line after the annoucment (Ordered with 2x1 gb of ram, wireless/bluetooth, 500gb hd, apple care, and 30" cinema). Can't wait until it ships (on or before 11/17)...I plan to get Aperture, iSight, and add extra ram after market.
The consensus seems to be no more liquid cooling in any model. I don't know that this is official from Apple, though.aafuss1 said:Does the PMG5 Quad 2.5GHz or single dual core G5's still use liquid cooling?

Kid Red said:Damn, I already placed my order and they didn't have the 7800 as an option so I didn't know about it. But damn it's much faster then the 6600. Anyone know when it will be back and and what price? I might have to call Apple and find out if it's worth me chaining my order.
Renegate said:AMD is great in processor performance but as a company they are still far away from making consistent money-positive quarters. Intel has huge cash and can therfore afford to play with Apple even if the base is not so big.AMD would be bad off at this point to invest money into Apple versus focussing on the bigger PC market.
B.S.!!!itswoody said:I never complained that Apple doesn't update quickly enough, I just stated that this new quad, whilst great for Apple and for the future of the Power Mac comes only after having mine for 4 months which makes me feel sick!!! I mean you could have bought a dual 2.7 ghz yesterday and now this! Then you'd be sick too. Doesn't seem fair really...to reiterate, if Apple, or some other reputable firm offered a part exchange system I'd use it!
😉
But isn't this the whole Firefox vs IE market share argument all over again. FF leaps in market share ... to 8%, while IE slides ... to a mere 78%? 😉jaduffy108 said:AMD Momentum Builds ... Intel Sees Slower Growth

I do see validity to your point...really, I do... but....here's a headline from today:
AMD Momentum Builds as Industry Continues to Embrace AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology

Falcon Northwest ...blah,blah,blaah
on the same page are these two links:
1- Intel Sees Slower Growth - at The Wall Street Journal Online (Wed Oct 19)
2-Techs Rally Despite Weak Intel Forecast - at The Wall Street Journal Online (Wed Oct 19)
I ask, has Apple made the wrong x86 choice? Based on product performance available right now versus vaporware Intel "roadmaps"?...yes, no doubt Apple goofed...Then again, was it Apple's choice? Who knows?...not me.

jaduffy108 said:uhh...hmmm. I get your point, particularly considering the past. Also, if $$ is your primary criterion versus performance. ahem. On the otherhand, AMD just posted greater earnings than Intel. AMD's performance is creating converts from the Intel camp in significant numbers right now...server market too... so doesn't performance in the end matter most? I would be careful about betting against AMD...very careful. I guess your point is... AMD might not even want Apple's business? Maybe.

Yeah - I love the iSight magnetic design...very smart.

The only devices largely using bluetooth are mobile phones but until now synchronizing over bluetooth doesn't work with the itunes phone. I sthat reserved for Apples upcoming version of it or something else?

Actually thats maybe where Steve Jobbs is heading : Media Access Control, good remarkartifex said:Headsets. And don't say MAC. that's Media Access Control 🙂

The Quad G5 is a monster! Will buy one in about 4 weeks if the money from my last project is finally coming.
But the single processor machines are a joke...
On the other hand it would leave space for a semi-pro line-up now. Single pocessor single core machines in a smaller enclosure in the range 1000-1500$.
We will see...

Edit: Just checked out what the Opteron 275 processors cost... just 2 processors and a decent mainboard cost well over 2500$. The Quad G5 is really worth the money... I want one!!! 🙂
Assuming that 'duality' is the same for PPC as AMD (a big assumption, I know) this tells me that there's pretty much no difference between a dual core processor and two processors of the same clock speed. So, a dual core 2.3 PM should be similar to the earlier dual processor 2.3. But that was 3D rendering. Presumably the newer PCI-e cards will make a difference there too.Evangelion said:For all of you wondering about 1x dualcore vs 2x single-core: CLICK HERE!. It's review of the dual-core Opteron. The processors to look out for are the Opteron 175 (2.2Ghz dual-core, 1MB L2-cace) are Opteron 248 (2x single-core, 2.2Ghz, 1MB L2-cache).
In short: dual-core Opteron is slightly faster than two single-core Opterons with similar clock-speed and L2-cache.
They are just starting to ship in a few weeks. The machines are probably not ready yet (the Quads I mean). Hard to guess how high the demand will be and how many they can push innto the market right from the beginning. I hope it doesn't mean that I'll get the machine not before next year when I'll oder in about a month. I need to write it off the tax this year and not in 2006...Renegate said:Seems like shipping times are very long, do they actually have any stock or is that reflecting high order volumes?
