This site doesn't care about what it puts on the frontpage you should know that by now. The Editor could hear two bums on the street talking about how a new Mac Pro is coming out next week and suddenly on the frontpage we'll see "Inside sources reveal a new Mac Pro is set to release new week".

Arn works hard to bring us these stories. He gave up a profitable medical career to do this full time. If you don't like his style then leave! I mean, its not like you could do a better job...

But, but, but. I thought that the turtlenecked overlord convinced
us that Flash was bad.

Now they're putting Flash on the Ipads! Thank goodness that the
overlord doesn't let dogma get in the way of what the customers
need.

Time for your medicine, Aiden.

This device should have a more robust operating system than a damn PHONE!

In what way is the iPhone OS not robust? It's a trimmed down version of Mac OS X, so it stands to reason that it would be more robust than OS X.

I don't think that HyperZboy was referring to the stability of the platform but rather the capabilities of the platform. Remember, robust has many meanings depending on context.

It can refer to stability as well as feature set.

The SDK and the device can have slight variations as long as Apple is careful. They may be flashing them already. I'm sure there will be an update shortly after the iPad is released to sync everything up. This isn't as major of a release as 4.0 will be. I think that is exactly why they are releasing the iPad on 3.2 first. Fewer bugs out the gate. It will be interesting to see if there will be some iPad specific surprises when 4.0 hits.

Will Apple be able to make a 4.0 release in the "somewhat established" time frame of June/July?

Sorry, you can't just redefine words as you please. Check the definition for yourself. It means strong, healthy, vigorous, sturdy, etc. -- not "having a wide range of capabilities" or "feature-rich".

I hope this version of iPhone OS and iPhone 4 are substantial improvements.

Not that the current iPhone isn't good enough. But Android is starting to gain traction.

I'm hoping for higher screen resolution with smoother text. The text on Android is very crisp. But this may be difficult to do and be backwards compatible with current apps.

I don't know if it would be possible,
but if they doubled the vertical and horizontal resolution
then perhaps older apps could run in a "doubled" mode
without a loss in sharpness.

Something about you totally annoys me. I don't know what its just... grrr. Probably your attitude.

And I also wonder if this thing adds undeeded features features for the iPad. I don't think multitasking will be out before 4.0. And even if all the fanbois out there say multitasking is bad for the iPhone's battery, Nexus one does it fine and the iPhone needs it. Well, it doesn't need it as bad as the iPad. I don't understand how people can complain about no front facing camera. Lack of multitasking is more annoying to me personally.

They did fix one annoying bug that would have only been noticed by developers. Glad they fixed it though. I was just complaining about it today lol...

Is that timeframe even "somewhat established" or is it just a wild-ass guess?

Let's see.

July 07 - OS 1.0 released
July 08 - OS 2.0 released
July 09 - OS 3.0 released

I don't see any wild asses.

I say "somewhat established" since I don't believe Apple ever officially promised anything.

Link?

Who said anything about being impressed? Compared to some of the other crap that gets onto other Apple sites, Arn does a good job in my opinion.

You must be new here.

Most of the content on the front page is usually ripped off from threads started by forums members hours and sometimes DAYS before it is anywhere.

here is how things work over here:

Kind of close I guess:

Original iPhone - June 29, 2007
iPhone 3G - July 11, 2008
iPhone 3GS - June 8, 2009

But your overall "somewhat established" timeline is pretty much spot on.

Actually, the iPhone 3GS was June 19th, with 3.0 having a launch date launch date of June 17th.

Actually, Arn is one of the more cautious about what he publishes.

Exactly, there is a lot of garbage out there and Arn only publishes the relevant rumors (in my opinion) Keep up the good work MacRumors!

It was a headline claiming that Intrinsity used to be Exponential Technology. Search the forums and you'll find the thread.

For those who have downloaded it, what's the size of the SDK?

Safari tells me I've downloaded 3.13 of 2.31 GB and it's still going...

When will it end?

People still holding a grudge from when Arn gave them a proctology exam, I suspect.

If you look at my join date, you'll see I am not new here, but thanks for the condescending tone.

I have received credit several times and I know others have as well.

edit: sorry, it's late and I am cranky :)

I am breaking NDA to tell you guys this. The new iPad will use Wobulation technology to double the resolution of the device. The iPad will have a hyper vibrate mode that will register at a 2.9 on the Richter scale. This will cause pixels to shift up to 1/2 the pixels width. With careful timing, this will cause each iPad to have an effective resolution four times the number of pixels. This may also cause some users to lose their fillings.

The pixel quadrupling effect is thought to work better when the user is drunk. Apple will present each person who purchases an iPad on the first day of sales a special gift, one free bottle of Crown Royall. The bag the bottle comes in will be usable as a cool iPad transport bag. Due to liquor laws, purchasers under the age of 21 will also receive a free iPaper bag.
