Apple today released Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for select iPad models. The video and music creation apps are rolling out now on the App Store.

Both apps have subscription-based pricing set at $4.99 per month or $49 per year in the U.S. after a one-month free trial. Final Cut Pro is compatible with iPad models equipped with the M1 chip or later, and Logic Pro is available for iPad models equipped with the A12 Bionic chip or later. Both apps require iPadOS 16.4 or later.

Apple says the apps are optimized for the iPad's touch-first interface, providing the "ultimate mobile studio for video and music creators." More details about specific features can be found in our earlier coverage.

"Final Cut Pro for iPad introduces a powerful set of tools for video creators to record, edit, finish, and share, all from one portable device," said Apple's announcement from earlier this month. "Logic Pro for iPad puts the power of professional music creation in the hands of the creator — no matter where they are — with a complete collection of sophisticated tools for songwriting, beat making, recording, editing, and mixing."

Apple has dedicated Final Cut Pro for iPad and Logic Pro for iPad pages with more details, and we will have our own hands-on coverage of the apps soon.

On the Mac, Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro remain $299.99 and $199.99, respectively.

Yay! Let the creativity begin! Who's ready to test it out?
You know I have it already...
I wish Apple would just make their own Audio Interface already and just call it a day. Add some audio focused chips for DSP and latency to the Apple Silicon SoC and have breakout input/output boxes available through thunderbolt/usb4.

I can't log in, it seems to except the email because there's no error but it keeps me at the login screen? Do you have to get a different subscription if you own the desktop version?

Free trial not working. FCP just says loading and doesn’t go past the free trial screen. And Logic Pro is saying no subscription found??

Let’s hope Apple rethinks the pricing strategy on this. Subscription are awesome for certain use cases but the ability to buy the software (even if it only comes with 1 year of updates) should always be an option.

The Affinity software model is perfect. Pay for the software and you own it! When the next big version comes out, pay for the upgrade and you own it or keep using the old version and miss out. Either way, your projects are not held hostage. This is the way.

I don't prefer subscriptions, but I will accept them if the updates are consistent, and significant. I wish there was a mechanism to determine this from our end. I've noticed many companies (AVID, cough, cough) will release a Pro Tools update a few days to a month after my annual renewal, and it usually sucks and doesn't have great features. Would be great for subscribers if there was a feature to vote with our wallet and be able to have a grace period to refund our monthly/annual renewal if we see such lackluster updates from software devs. I doubt it, but it would be nice.

Subscriptions are why i am now using Bitwarden instead of 1Password.
