Thanks for posting that. Not a single Mac in my house was performing automatic backups since updating to 7.7.7... I would have to restart the target Time Capsule then go to the Mac and choose "Backup Now" which would work, but all other machines would fail after that. Got tired of that after almost two months and just did a downgrade.

You downgraded from 7.7.7 to previous version?

You must have something else going on. No issues on 7.7.7 here on multiple systems.

I'm finding that AirPlay gets worse with every new hardware and software they release. I'm still angry at Apple about the jitter problems with some DAC's when they moved from the wall AirPort Express to the squared AirPort Express. I'm seriously considering a Sonos Connect to replace the AirPort Express connected to my stereo system.

I found the same thing and already went BACK to Sonos.

Had a couple of Sonos devices (Connect and Play3) a few years ago. Decided I was going to go all Apple AirPlay and sold the Sonos gear. Struggled with flaky connectivity, dropouts, devices not consistently showing up in the Remote app, iTunes client having to be quit and restarted for anything to play, very infrequent updates, very hard to find and expensive AirPlay speakers, you name it.

Decided it wasn't worth the hassle and went full guns with Sonos. Connect, Play3, (2) Play1s, and even got a Play1 for my small office. Not the cheapest gear around but quality is great and it just works.

Only way I could be happier is if I could find a decent replacement for iTunes on Mac so I could easily tag audio and video files, and serve video files to AppleTV.

Was able to pick up a 3rd Generation AppleTV for dirt cheap and go figure, the product that no one wants is the one that works a whole lot better for AirPlay (though still not perfect). I still got Sonos because it never fails and that's what I mainly use but was playing around setting up the AppleTV as a movie streamer from my Mac and tested the audio via AirPlay and it's significantly better in terms of playback reliability.

I had headed down that path too (AppleTVs for airplay destinations) but they only have optical out and it's not easy finding powered speakers with an optical input. I would have had to add a small DAC to drive standard speakers, and that just ended up being too many parts. If Apple had just used the digital/analog combo output like on the Airport Express, I may never have gone back to Sonos.

[doublepost=1464477290][/doublepost]Had the same issue with 7.7.7 some devices not connecting to wifi which were fine before. Downgraded to old firmware and everything is back to normal

I'm having crazy problems since this update also. Was using 2 airport extremes, both updated to 7.7.7.

Since then, getting daily (or more) prompts on windows and IOS devices randomly to re-enter the wifi password. Works sometimes, often doesn't until I reboot the airports.

One of my 2 apple TV 2s that I airplay too for home audio has to be rebooted all the time or airplay won't connect.

Wifi speeds seem to be erratic as heck.

Have spent hours testing my wired home network for cable problems, relocating switches, etc. I should have checked the release date on 7.7.7. Just realized it was about the same time as my problems started occurring. Seriously considering a Google OnHub TPLink or something alternate after all this crap - but may try downgrading first.

EDIT: btw - I noticed last night that after fighting this for a few months, for the first time the Airport Extreme stopped showing up in the Airport utility (IOS or OS X). I had already tried multiple things to debug, and was down to just using a single centrally-located AE. (I have two others now sitting unplugged). I did a hard reset, things started working. As I started adding back my DHCP reservations in the network options, it happened again. Hard reset, started adding them back in. Happened again. OK - went slowly, with just the bare minimum of reservations (I have over 40 devices connecting between my wired and wireless), have only 5 reservations set, and so far it's stable. New 7.7.7 bug???

[doublepost=1493225482][/doublepost]Any word on this update's results? I'm nervous about installing it on an old device.

This thread is a year old which was a discussion related to 7.6.7 and 7.7.7. I just checked my old and newer Airport base station firmware versions. My devices are running 7.6.8 or 7.7.8 without a problem.
I concur on this, same with my devices.
