How is family sharing still not a thing? My wife can see where every Apple device I own is at. She has access to my full account and can track my every move but heaven forbid she knows where my car keys are. That’s a huge privacy risk!

The best is how they say that AirTags are not good for tracking people and only to be used for tracking lost items. Meanwhile they lost their mother loving minds over privacy and security concerns regarding people being tracked.

An airline didn't put my checked baggage inside of the airplane I was flying on a few months ago, and I thought I wouldn't see it again. I would fortunately get it back, but decided to get Airtags because I've heard horror stories about airlines and checked baggages and wanted to keep track of it for the future. I've yet to use them, but I would definitely recommend them to anyone who does any sort of traveling.

The obvious problem is family sharing - since release, but nothing there. Many of the firmware updates have made the tags less user friendly to owners (triggering alerts even earlier) - so no details on what this does? Nah, I'll pass.

Tell me what it does and I'll consider it.

I don't think there is a way to prevent the tags from updating. It's pushed out, not something you go get.

Ahhh, that's depressing to know, but not surprising in retrospect I suppose...a bit of a 1st though pushing firmware out without the users giving an okay? I mean I obviously don't own this device, Apple apparantly does.

i want to turn off that annoying chirp whenever my keys are moved... my iphone is not alway in range....
You can remove the speaker. There's YouTube videos on this. Most people keep their iPhone with them or at least nearby so this isn't an issue.

Apple today released a new firmware update designed for its AirTag item trackers, with the firmware featuring an updated build number of 2A24e, up from the 1A301 firmware that was released back in April.

Apple does not provide release notes for AirTag updates, so we do not know what's new in this update.

It is not possible to force an AirTag update, as it's something that's done over-the-air through a connected iPhone. To make sure the update happens, you can put your AirTag in range of your ‌iPhone‌, but you have to wait for the firmware to roll out to your device. You can check your current AirTag firmware version through the Find My app, with instructions available in our how to.

Apple will provide this firmware on a rolling basis, seeding it out to AirTag owners starting today and through December 1. This staggered release timeline allows Apple to make sure the firmware update is working as intended before it is provided to all users.

It would be nice if MacRumors would publish the version number along with the build number, since the version number is what shows up in Find My.

mine it's not updating.. I had it next to my phone for nearly 2 hours and still on 1.0.301
Right in the article,

"Apple will provide this firmware on a rolling basis, seeding it out to AirTag owners starting today and through December 1. This staggered release timeline allows Apple to make sure the firmware update is working as intended before it is provided to all users."

And again not possible to prevent update if something is screwed by Apple. Or roll it back.
