It's done for "customer convenience". Most people don't care what version they're running. Just us Apple heads.Ahhh, that's depressing to know, but not surprising in retrospect I suppose...a bit of a 1st though pushing firmware out without the users giving an okay? I mean I obviously don't own this device, Apple apparantly does.
A stolen item is a lost item. You mean features to break a use-case they were never designed for?
You are lucky that only 1 percent of the users received it. Did you notice any differences?Of my four pack, only one has 2.0.24. Others still on 1.0.301. 🤷♂

Hasn't been pushed out to meI don't think there is a way to prevent the tags from updating. It's pushed out, not something you go get.
Me neither. But I'm not expecting anything earth-shaking.Hasn't been pushed out to me![]()
It's not, it's stolenA stolen item is a lost item.
Well, considering people don’t have the ability to skip firmware updates, or trigger an update, you don’t really have a choice in passing on this update. You’ll get it eventually, wether you want it or not.The obvious problem is family sharing - since release, but nothing there. Many of the firmware updates have made the tags less user friendly to owners (triggering alerts even earlier) - so no details on what this does? Nah, I'll pass.
Tell me what it does and I'll consider it.
I don't think Family Sharing is going to be symmetric. Each item will have to have a primary family member that it is paired with; and some paired device would have to be up and running to provide the service for that item to other family members. I'm not sure this would be all that valuable. But the amount of complexity, and reduced battery life, that would have to be added to have an item communicate directly with four or five family members would be far more than this feature is worth. Please let it be the framework that would eventually enable Family Sharing.
This is how it works today. AirTags are paired to your Apple ID, not to your iPhone or iPad. The paired Apple ID can be the primary family member. Each item will have to have a primary family member that it is paired with...
All AirTags do is broadcast out a beacon signal for other devices (even strangers' devices) to pick up and report its location. It doesn't communicate directly with your device since it isn't paired to it (as mentioned above)....and some paired device would have to be up and running to provide the service for that item to other family members. I'm not sure this would be all that valuable. But the amount of complexity, and reduced battery life, that would have to be added to have an item communicate directly with four or five family members would be far more than this feature is worth.
Same here...4... and no update.I have 4 AirTags. None have updated as yet. Anyone else?
Yes you can put 16 tags on one acct but not even two accounts for one tag. If it's security, just make the first account 2FA the later request(s)How is family sharing still not a thing? My wife can see where every Apple device I own is at. She has access to my full account and can track my every move but heaven forbid she knows where my car keys are. That’s a huge privacy risk!
The best is how they say that AirTags are not good for tracking people and only to be used for tracking lost items. Meanwhile they lost their mother loving minds over privacy and security concerns regarding people being tracked.
But it's also lost since the owner can't find it. But a lost item isn't necessarily stolen. Unless the couch is the thief when it eats stuffIt's not, it's stolen
That's just crap. When I tag something, it is because when I want to know where the damn thing is, whenever I feel like knowing where the damn thing is. I don't need some damn moral committee only "allowing" me to know where it is, when certain arbitrary conditions, that they're making up from whole cloth, are met. Whether it's my dog, my wallet, or a roll of paper towels is MY business, not the moral police. What's with the disagree? AirTags are not designed to covertly track stolen lost items. They're designed for you to find lost/misplaced items.
