does it warns you now that the battery is low? Or it still dies every other day?
There might be something wrong with your battery tbh. I’ve had mine since launch using it daily and have only had the remote need charging once which it warned me about when it hit 10% I think. If it’s dying every other day that sounds like something is faulty.

the remote is very good. I would add hard buttons for 10s back/10s forward. Scrubbing and jog is obviously a strong point with this remote and that leaves the directional buttons which could be repurposed with FF/RW and CC toggle/Info toggle

Yeah, the old one even felt better when holding. This square one is just not as comfortable as the previous version.

I really hope they will release v3 that will work out these small details that are just 'un-Apple-like'

Really? Personally I think it's waaay better than the old one, in every aspect.

Everybody seems to be talking about the lag in controlling volume but I don’t have that air playing to a sonos arc.

The lag issue Indo have is overall considering how powerful the atv is there is considerable lag when going into an app or especially noticing when pressing back button. I usually end up pressing it 2-3 times because I think it didn’t work and then end up going back to the Home Screen. Really annoying.

Updates can be good. I may buy a new remote at some point. Just wish these things had a keypad on them for direct numerical input.

But I just use my phone or iPad these days because my Apple TV remote 1st gen shattered to pieces and no longer works - I learned it was made of glass, a bit late in the game.

I've been using this remote since release and have never noticed any bugs. The up/down volume controls work exactly as they should with the IR and it's been stable the whole time.

Update version 9M6772 to 10M1103? I have version 0x0061. How far back am I and how do I update to the latest version?

The latest remote is, IMO, way better than the prior one but it’s not perfect. I bought a case that you can add an AirTag to in order to make it bigger and easier to find when my wife inevitably loses it under or in the couches. That helped a ton. This should be a built in feature. The click wheel isn’t the most responsive when lightly grazing it to fast forward or rewind but I’m assuming / hoping that’s a software issue and this update will address it. As for the Siri and sound related bugs, I’ve never really attempted to use the Siri features on the remote in any serious manner considering how bad Siri can be on other devices and only pair one of my Apple TV’s with my HomePod which works very well for my wife and I.

Apple today released new firmware for the Siri Remote designed for the Apple TV, updating the software from version 9M6772 to 10M1103. The software is for the redesigned Siri Remote that was released in May 2021, aka the gray remote with the updated interface.
I’ve got version 0x0061 so what version number should this new update be?
I see the same 0x0061 with that remote using latest tvOS 15.6 beta 5 update, where did the 9M6772 to 10M1103 come from?

i was quite fine with the old remote. haven't used the new one. i'm sure it's fine, but I feel like it went backwards in a few regards. old remote looks like the the future version of the new one.

Adding the power button? the old remote was the future where the Home button turns it all on. And totally showed that the power button was redundant.

I still feel the mute button is mostly not needed in the streaming age where people are so much on-demand that can easily be paused. If I really had to add a mute button I would incorporated it into the current volume buttons and made that into a sort of rocker switch with a clickdown in the middle. I've seen this type of triple function button on other tv remotes like I believe Samsung's.

ADding the dpad instead of touchpad. ...it just feels like it just copying what everyone else is doing. Feels like MSFT instead of AAPL. NOt that I don't think the dpad wouldn't just fine or better in some situations. But touchpad was pretty good especially as Apple tweaked some software things. The biggest downside of the touchpad was the apps themselves where the developers obviously didn't make their app for the touchpad but instead just "ported" dpad movements over to the touchpad. And in those cases, the touchpad functionality is much worse. Thus I can see how Apple "gave up" on the touchpad. Everyone has a dpad.

Clickwheel scrolling on the new remote sounded cool but if apps don't use it then the same type of problem rears its head.

Apple really should have a team working with the 10 major streaming tv app developers to better use the apple tv/remote. On the other hand, they probably don't care to some degree because it makes using AppleTV+ feel that much better in comparison. And the more money they spend on ATV+ the more they don't care about crappy 3rd party tv streaming apps.
I mean this constructively, it's all about personal taste, but I disagree on almost all your points.

Sounds like you want minimalism for the sake of minimalism, as if buttons should be removed for aesthetic appeal. This is utter lunacy imo.

Where a remote is concerned, function is everything and they're pretty much a solved problem - the apps are the problem, YouTube being the most egregious example.

I was generally okay with the old remote once I'd put a case* on it, which made it more practical, but the touchpad was a failure ultimately. Good at finessing a progress bar and scrolling lists etc, but inconsistent and temperamental the rest of the time.

*hilarious putting a remote in a case, my phone is naked, but that last remote benefited hugely from a case, fewer accidental swipes when picking up etc

I agree with you...BUT, I found some neat silicon cases for the newest Siri remotes that have a small magnet embedded in the backside of the silicon. I have a coffee table with metal legs, so it's a perfect place to hang/store the remote when not in use. Otherwise, the new remote really doesn't need a case.

...the old one though-- ticking time bomb to crack the glass on that thing if you didn't have a case. Coin flip even if you did.

Sounds like that case adds function, which makes it worthwhile.

I meant putting it in for “protection”. Admittedly, I’ve no kids so less need for stuff like that. Ha.

I hope it fixes the inconsistent latency issues with it when using it to control the volume of stereo paired HomePods.
I agree. Though my biggest complaint is the large volume increments when using with my OG HomePods...its either blasting or too low to hear (especially with the midrange low dialogue issues in using the OGs).

I find the click wheel very annoying as in most apps you can’t spin it to advance or rewind videos. Apple should make it mandatory behaviour in all apps.
I would settle for the AppleTV to simple just let users know when "Scroll Wheel" scrolling is NOT supported in an App....instead of allowing us to continue mindlessly fumbling with the scroll wheel for 5 minutes thinking "we're holding it wrong."

I wish they could just implement it from a system level such that all apps natively/naturally support it without opt-in.

I would also like the ability to maybe press & hold the mute button to toggle Spatial Audio on/off, or head tracking on/off. Some things are better with it, and some things better without it I've found.
