If I see this but I'm not enrolled as a developer, can I still download it?

Oh how I wished they swapped the Message and the Voicemail icon on the screen when an incoming call comes in. Right now it's on the right side where I can reply with a message. I know I'm going to send the first 100 people straight to voicemail now. lol And probably long after.

First time, I had no problem. Then clicked on cross-fade and it immediately crashed and went to the home screen. Thereafter, every time Music is selected from Settings, it immediately goes to the home screen. Even after a hard reset, it goes immediately to the home screen.
Yep. Exact same for me.

Can you turn on cross fade and report back if it still works? Seems to be the issue.
I can report that crossfade is to blame, the moment I touched the toggle it crashed immediately and now crashes permanently. Hopefully this bug is fixed in the next update.

Just wait for the public beta. iOS 17 is unrecognizable from iOS 16 and it’s unusably buggy right now.
How is that possible? Even android developer previews run relatively stable on tons of hardware devices. Apple can’t get their os, even beta, to run on a single piece of hardware?

Thanks for being willing to try that. I was really looking forward to crossfade as an avid Apple Music listener. I can’t tell if crossfade is on or not. Sometimes I feel it’s working other times it’s hard to tell

Crossfade is a pretty obvious bug that so far everyone can reproduce so they should be able to patch this one pretty quickly I hope.

They've redesigned the home app on the watch as well, but the climate section where the temperatures/humidity should be is buggy in this first beta. Just shows a blank page. Everything else on that app otherwise works fine. The iPhone home app is reading the climate info fine so it's just the watch.

Is it really buggy for you? It's quite OK for me, probably the most stable first beta in years. iOS 16 was hell compared to this. Haven't had anything major happen, performance is very similar to iOS 16 and so is battery life (for now).

I'm having no problems with that.

Well I wasn’t going to install it because it’s not interesting enough for me to fly a first beta like this, but I really wanted the new watch os so I went for it. Every single time I swipe up from the lock screen to go to the homescreen my phone resprings, sometimes it takes a full minute to finish. And I had one long full reboot happen earlier as well.

So for me it’s a no go, I’m going back to iOS 16 tonight.

Are there any detailed discussions of the features yet for iPadOS 17. I put on my gen 3 12.9 ipad pro and played a bit but have not noticed or found easy differences yet. Since I upgraded to a gen 6 iPad Pro this is my test machine now.

Now. I am not a developer and was previously enrolled only for public betas. For some reason at the moment I am offered iOS 17 developers beta too under Settings > Software Updates. 🤷🏻‍♂️
I also have the “Developer Beta” option but I am public beta. I will wait for “Public Beta”.

Following today's keynote event, Apple has released the first betas of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 to developers for testing purposes. The betas are only available for those with a developer account, and Apple is restricting downloads with the elimination of the previous profile system.

Registered developers are able to opt into the betas by opening up the Settings app, going to the Software Update section, tapping on the "Beta Updates" option, and toggling on the iOS 16 Developer Beta. Note that an Apple ID associated with a developer account is required to download and install the beta.

iOS 17 is a major update that introduces a customized look for each person that calls, with the person who places the call able to customize their look. Live voicemails let you see a transcript of a message someone is leaving in real time so you can choose to pick up the phone if you want, and voice messages people send in iMessage are now transcribed into text. You can also record a video or audio message when someone misses your FaceTime call, and FaceTime works on the Apple TV through Continuity functionality.

In the Messages app, apps have been moved to a new tucked-away interface for a cleaner look, and there is a new Check In feature that is designed to let your friends and family keep an eye on you when you're traveling. Check In automatically notifies friends or family members when you arrive at a destination, such as home. Locations can also now be shared directly from the Messages app.

In a group chat, there's a catch-up arrow so you can see the first message you haven't seen in a conversation, and with search filters, you can more easily find what you're looking for. Stickers have been overhauled, and all emoji are now stickers, living alongside sticker packs and Memoji. Using the remove from background feature in iOS 17, you can turn the subject from any image into a sticker.

With StandBy, an iPhone placed horizontally turns into a little home hub that displays information like the calendar, time, home controls, and more, and Live Activities can be displayed in full screen too.

Widgets on the Home Screen are interactive, so you can do things like check off an item on a to-do list or turn off the lights without having to open an app. AirDrop has been improved and there's a NameDrop function for sharing contacts quickly, plus you can hold two iPhones together to start a SharePlay session. SharePlay also now works with CarPlay so passengers can play their music in the car too.

Other new features include a journaling app coming later this year, AirPlay in select hotel rooms, improvements to AirPods Pro 2 thanks to a new Adaptive Audio feature, offline Maps, Siri that does not require the "Hey" activation, and improvements to search and spotlight.

While today's beta is limited to developers, Apple will be providing a public beta later this summer.

Ok ... whom here thought that AirPlay's "New feature" to sharing contacts was introduced for absolutely new users to the platform or for complete MORONS that forgot how this worked prior to iOS 17?

Like sharing of contacts NEVER needed to be brought close to another iPhone - that's LITERARY like NFS-Bumping that Apple and Craig made fun of on stage long ago.

I downloaded and installed iOS 17 Dev beta without a Dev account, no, I am not lying, been using Dev profiles for ages, it still works for me.

Also, it says iOS 17 Dev beta
Also it seems to work with free dev account, so one doesn’t need to pay $99 just to tinker with dev beta. YMMV however.

Apple counts on modern people’s ever shortening memory span so when they re-release existing features there would still be people yelling and cheering at them as if those are brand new and never existed, despite history saying otherwise.

Same here, I do not have a developer account, but also have the option to download iOS 16 and 17 developer betas.

I definitely expected the interactive widgets (mainly the Music one I guess) to be a bit more elegant than merely a pill shaped Play/Pause button…

But it’s early doors I guess.
