Apple are really out to get Flash eh?

Tried to go onto YouTube, and got told I required a Flash plug in. Was there not something about the new Macbook Air's coming without Flash installed too?

Anytime I have to use multiple instances of Finder, it's to drag and drop stuff. This is much easier accross Windows than tabs. I haven't really seen the need for a tabbed finder, but I guess some people do. It would be nice as an option for them.

Drag and Drop is very neatly done in Total Finder. You just drop the files onto the tab of your folder and they get copied over. No need to have multiple instances of Finder, so it saves a lot of screen estate :)

That wouldn't work for my workflow sorry. I have a Finder window opened on my NAS with all my Anime series listed in different folders. The 2nd window is my downloads folder. I drag each series over the appropriate folder on the NAS without opening them.

Dragging to a tab would result in a big mess of series mixed up in a single folder.

Again, nice as an option for people who'd use it, I just don't see the need for myself.

LOL. Fair enough. Of course, I can still just open a second Finder winder, when the need arises.

Last time I checked, it was a 3 digit number (iThink $2xxs), or else, won't everyone who'd upgrade anyway get it instead of paying $129 for a single user version? :rolleyes:
It is surely not untested, Duh!
iThink Steve is using Mac OS 11.3 or something.

Even if it is, its only a Software on a partition! :cool:

Oh - so it sets up a dual-boot system? HHmm...

As for the price, earlier in this thread it was posted the final version is included with the developer fee (or I misread that particular post), but then later someone contradicted that.

Microsoft must be out to get Flash, too. They don't include Flash in Windows.

I forgot to say; thank you for the information.

I've ended subscribing to the developer program in the end. It's running fine on mine. C2D 1.86GHz, Intel GMA950.
How is it going for you? I'm finding that without a multitouch trackpad, navigating the full-screen apps is going to be tricky.

In fact, once you're in Dashboard, unless you have an exposé keyboard shortcut set, I don't think there's any way to get out of it on our machines.

I tried esc.. didn't work.. cmd+tab did though :D

can you use the f4 key?

Really? About time.

I only use it for YouTube since for some reason the HTML5 version doesn't load every video. Other than that, I turn off Plug In's in Safari's preferences.

I just found it "interesting".

can you use the f4 key?

On the newer keyboards with markings, yes. Otherwise the default for dashboard is F12, which still works on the newer keyboards if you hold 'fn'.

So:
F9 -> F3
F10 -> control+F3
F11 -> command+F3
F12 -> F4

I assume it would be similar with Lion.

I would support you people each time you ask for something like this if you'd ask for it to be optional, not a "everyone else be damned, my way or the highway".

Steady on, Mr/Ms Knight, you'll pull a muscle :rolleyes: an option to put the dock in the menu bar somehow would be fine by me.

I'm not even sure how the Dock could possibly work built into the menu bar. On my 24" monitor, yes there's plenty of room for a row of (tiny!) icons for the applications you want, but then when I take my 15" MacBook Pro somewhere, those icons would no longer fit.

Unless you mean an "Applications" menu that drops down with a huge list to select from. :confused:

Then next time don't phrase it as "I want the dock removed". I happen to love the dock.

And pull a muscle on what ? I don't quite get your comment there.

See how Gnome does it. You have an application menu and then you have some shortcut icons. I agree, if it was a good idea, Apple would have done years ago.

As it stands, if you like that sort of desktop, then by all means, get a Gnome desktop : http://www.gnome.org.

Yea, you can. After a bit more use, a few things I've found:

  • You can (as mentioned) use F3 or F4 if those are the pre-defined keyboard shortcuts for Exposé or Dashboard.
  • You can use Ctrl+Left Arrow or Ctrl+Right Arrow to switch between "screens". I'm not sure how this works if you have Spaces enabled, but it works well for switching between full-screen apps and Dashboard.
  • Safari search has changed, (maybe just a temporary thing?) and only searches from the start of a string. For example, to search for my username you can use "Little", but not "odie914"
  • While these little pop-up boxes are open, creating the individual list items, the OS thinks Safari is frozen, so I have a spinning beachball, and every 60 seconds I get a popup window asking me if I want to "Wait" or "Reload"

Edit: Few more things:

  • Cmd+Up Arrow opens Mission Control
  • Cmd+Down Arrow opens a "window-only" Exposé, showing only the open windows in the current space. Kind of hard to explain, similar to the way Exposé works in Snow Leopard
  • Spaces are now integrated into the "middle" screen. Eg. if you have two Spaces defined, your views are: Dashboard <-> Space 1 <-> Space 2 <-> Full-screen Apps

Ah I see. Not too different from how I imagined. Going through a menu is slower than the dock or Spotlight (as well as cluttered), so that would be why Apple haven't adopted a similar thing.

Does anyone remember OS 8/9?

It was sort of like this.

Sure do. I had a much better experience on the final release of Mac OS 9 than I did on 10.0. Everything had to load a classic emulation because most software was still classic. :(

Gotta love transition periods.

Hmm, will those shortcuts override usage for scrolling? For example, I use Command-Downarrow (on a MBP keyboard) in Safari to scroll to the end of page.

He meant control. It's control-up/down arrow.
