Hi all
Installed Catalina w/o a hitch. Apparently they have removed *image editing* from Preview. For quick color balancing, etc. Preview was my go-to. Now, I guess I have to use a dedicated photo editor, which I have, but the other was always quick and effective

Yep. It’s a bit clunky but nothing serious so far...a lot more fan noise than I’m used to and main niggle so far for me is that a lot of my music cover art pix have gone awol.

I have an early-2015 13" MPB, not sure which model you have but just curious if you upgraded over Mojave, did a fresh install, or put it on another drive? I always fresh install a new OS, but I think I might wait for the Dev. 3 release.

So your fans are running a lot more, and a lot of cover art is gone, which would make me mad. Does the Music.app have the "Get Album Artwork" option like iTunes did? Any other issues I should know about?

Thank you in advance!

Be careful installing this, it's by no means as stable as last years betas, Mojave was a lot more stable.
Think this one is the least stable one since I started using OS X almost 2 decades ago, well, the first beta wasn't that stable.
It's quite a mess, Time Machine/Finder being the worst ones, lots of services crashes too.
I was losing more and more space on beta 1, the more I deleted the less space I got, a terminal showed me I had just 1 Local backup, disk repair showed 12, got me thinking, but someone told me to switch of automatic ™ backup, I instantly got my space back and now could update to beta 2.
Time Machine takes forever to finish backups, last time before I switched it off it took hours to backup 1 GB, and it was hanging at 160 MB.

Yup, this production is not ready for primetime at all, not even as an after midnight filler. Im also experiencing an extremely irritating Finder crash loop. I guess Apple doesn't call it a beta just for kicks! :D

Thanks for advice. PB1 Has installed fine on a 2015 MacBook (not my main computer). Installation took a long time and now synching iCloud and updating Photos is taking a very long time but general functionality seems ok so far, but noticeably slow in some cases.

You can do color balancing in the Photos.app, but since you said you have a dedicated editor that probably will not help you much.

Anyone else having issues with iCloud not syncing up? Files, Safari, Keychain, Photos. Nothing wants to sync up for me.

hard to tell if it's not synching or just very slow
Photos updating Library has been going for hours intermittently

Bold, you're wasting your time, not saying you can't but it does not make sense on a mac.
I never clean installed my OS except for the original Install, which was....wait for it..... 2001.
Had some bugs here and there, Yosemite being a pain in the ..., Wifi issues, wasn't alone though.
And now this "mess", I am aware this is beta, shouldn't be called a beta though, it's very rough, a reinstall
would do (again) exactly nothing, waiting for a new beta will....

I know I do not need to, but it is just the way I do it.

I will be waiting for the Dev. 3 release, and see how that is working for people. No way this is going on my machine, even though I have a 2018 MBP, I use both quite a bit and do not want any issues with my 2015. My 2015 is the one I take with me wherever I am going that I need my Mac, my 2018 basically stays at home on my desk.

Edit: I agree with you about how this should not be called a beta. Earlier in the thread I responded to someone and said this is more like an alpha build than a beta build.

Photos app is good, I have used it regularly for the things Preview wouldn't do, like rotating by increments, etc. I like programs that have just what I need. I have PS Elements but I seldom need all the stuff it contains, let alone PhotoShop itself.

No major bugs to note, but PAINFULLY slow. I understand my machine is on the cusp of being unsupported, but I didn't expect it to lag THIS bad.

iMac - Late 2012, 3.2 GHz i5, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD (25% free)

Any ideas?

The 1TB HDD is the culprit. Newer OS are designed for SSDs.

Well so far the Catalina public beta has performed amazingly, no issues whatsoever, the only programs that stopped working for me were uTorrent(I replaced it with qBittorrent) and Wipr(replaced it with AdBlock). Everything else works just as good as in Mojave. Also the first boot up from shut down takes awhile...

PS: I'm using the 2017 nTB MBP

HDD! Wow, that takes me back. Anyway, check top processes (top -o cpu) and see if anything's hogging the cpu. There's a known bug where a "killall" process loops forever. Kill it if you see it.

If you want to keep your machine, upgrading to a SSD is very worthwhile.

Very true, nothing but SSD for me nowadays, HDD is painfully slow in comparison. I can't believe there are people still using it

App Store app won't allow me to sign in. Using the sign in button and also updating app I get the password screen but after entering the password it just loops back.
Tried logging out of both Apple Music and the iCloud account as suggested on the Apple Dev forums - No change.

Anny suggestions?

I'll say. I can QuickLook files but nothing more. Anything more, like attempting to open in Preview, or any other app, will not work. I'm unable to open Mail and Preview (both crash). Hard lesson learned this time. I'm one of those fools that blithely trusts the betas to have no more than a few bugs. This time, it's costing a lot of time and productivity. (Also foolishly installed on main computer...though I did back up just prior).

Oddly enough I'm able to open a recently downloaded pdf via spotlight, but try that same file in the Finder I get the error: "...pdf" can't be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the App Store and identified developers. This file was downloaded on an unknown date."

Did you find it necessary to restore from your backup or are you still fighting the good fight?
