It's sad the main new feature of an operating system is dark mode.
Agreed. All they have now is to rekindle an option we had in Mac OS 8-9 with Kaleidoscope. Except that did a lot more for customizability of user interface.

You're deliberately mis-stating things. Nobody is complaining about dark mode, some people are happy it's coming, some people don't care one way or the other.

People are complaining that Apple is so incapable of creating anything these days that a new color scheme counts as a flagship feature. Even if you've been asking for dark mode for years, that's still pretty pathetic of Apple.
Agreed. Its the equivalent of "Hey look, the new iPhone is red now so you should buy one!"

I get that if it was just merely an on/off switch of dark mode. However, if i understand correctly, there's a setting that the background will gradually get darker throughout the day and as evening sets in. Also, it has been a largely requested feature for many users for the last few years. Especially with the increase of Retina displays becoming the mainstream standard.

How poetic. How untrue.

Well according to Tim Cook "I think if you're looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?"

So there you have it straight from the Ass' mouth or Horse's ass. Apple (since of course the CEO speaks for the company) does not believe anyone should buy a mac.

What's even more pathetic is Timmy "feels bad for" people stuck on a 5 year old windows computer. When Apple is currently selling as "new" mac pros that are more than 5 years old at the original price. And mac minis that are 4 years old and a downgrade from the 6 year old design. At the original price.

How can you possibly think my original statement is untrue. Apple has been 100% clear on that point for years. They don't want to sell you a mac, they want to sell you an iPad with an Apple Music account.

And don't forget "What's a computer?". Nobody at Apple has a clue.

I have to admit, I am looking forward to this release; however, I am going to sit this beta out. IOS PB has been great so far with little to no issue; but from what I read with the Dev B2; I question if this is ready for prime time (PB release)... maybe one or two down the road :) I am curious about a previous post not to install if use external drive as boot drive, what is the issue there?

Kudos for the background. It is just too iconic, like "Bliss" from Windows XP.

I have "Horizon" from Leopard/Snow Leopard as my desktop picture for months.

It perfectly describes my look on life and everything: limitless.
Figured the Aurora background was appropriate as this Mac originally shipped with Snow Leopard, and I had been using it in MacOS Sierra as well. Mojave's dark mode looks fantastic with this background, like it was designed for it. The purple accent color complements it even further. :)

People were asking for it, they delivered. But they will keep facing flak one way or the other. :p

They're not facing flak for delivering it. They're facing flak for being so completely inept that that new color scheme is the main thing they have to offer. And it's literally taken them years to deliver it. What, do they have 3 engineers in entire company and the rest of the $10 billion R&D budget is funnelled to the marketing department? Maybe the R&D budget goes to fund astroturfing on forums.

People that use and care about the Mac should be fine with no new features on a major release as long as stability is the focus. With Mojave it is. That's why so many people here are failing to understand how anyone could be complaining about the main *new* feature being dark mode. I'm glad dark mode is coming. And I'm glad they haven't added much more. We've been desperately needing better stability.

I first started using Macs right after Snow Leopard came out. That set an expectation for me because I remember how bugs and glitches literally just never happened. It's a shame how buggy OS X (whoops - I mean Mac OS) has gotten over the past several years. I for one am hoping this resolves a lot of the long-standing stability issues.

I wasn't giving anyone "flak." I think it's a worthwhile feature, but don't see it being a main feature of an operating system.

When Apple listens to the customer desires:
Customers: "Boooooooooo!!!"

When Apple doesn't listen to customer desires:
Customers: "Boooooooooo!!!".

...you people are unbelievable.

Reading comprehension is hard, isn't it?

I didn't saying against dark mode at all. Specifically, I said it is sad that Dark Mode is touted as the main feature of a new operating system.

I like the feature, but having it as the main feature of a new operating system seems a bit much.

2008 Economy in China was good.....;)

As I said before in this thread, I haven't seen a more stable OS X/macOS beta than this one and I've been on them since the very first 10.0b.
I'm not sure why they're not touting stability is the name of the game with this release.

"while Dynamic Desktops give you wallpapers that subtly change throughout the day."

Same thing we already have in Sierra.

I can see how narrow Mac models can install this now. Probably not bad. but it had to come at one point.

All Dark mode looks good.

So we can't hope for any feedback on the the 2016-2017 MBPs. It's hard to type a feedback message to Apple when 10% of your keys don't work.

This. :D But what I wanted to point out is that many people I know have used public beta stuff just to pose (mostly iOS), which I find sad.

Officially, no. Unofficially, yes. However, in my case it required disabling the dedicated GPU (using an NVRAM variable, not permanently).

Thank you! and i was going to say the same thing about the background
This is one of my favourite Mac OS backgrounds ever. I loved all the space/galaxy themed wallpapers of that era.

Seems to me that the BIGGEST news for Mojave is going to be support for APFS to include the FUSION and normal HDDs that were promised over a year ago.

That said, I'm going to wait until the official release; as I want to ensure that I don't lose everything, due to some upgrade to APFS, that isn't fully compatible with both my FUSION and HPFS+ drives.
