While it might mean nothing, the AppleTV icon change strengthens my belief that we’ll see a reconceptualized AppleTV at the March event.

An HDMI stick could replace the puck and the only routinely visible component would be the remote.

This would add weight to the importance of the remote’s design since that would be the AppleTV. A redesigned remote could use a Force Touch panel rather than a mechanical clicker and perhaps an asymmetrical back to quickly find the right side up.

It could be that given Apple’s push to roll out AirPlay to every major tv that the HDMI stick wouldn’t be necessary and AppleTV would become an iOS mode like CarPlay. Devices like the iPhone, iPad and even HomePod could run the AppleTV software and Airplay it to nearby TVs.

I have now jailbroken. In the last 2 days i have added so much functionality that i could only dream apple will give me.

The notes app had a new design for me where each note displayed the name of the folder where it belonged on the preview. Going back to folders view and then again into “notes” folder, the new UI disappeared. Maybe it’s just a bug, although it looked very polished and definitely could be an intentional change

Nice new lock screen and control center “now playing” for Apple TV as well. As of B3 (as far as I’m aware) this automatically comes up on all devices signed into same iCloud account. I’m a huge fan of this, especially volume control now on lock screen for compatible TVs.

EDIT: Cannot confirm ‘same iCloud account’ and if this does or does not connect to Home at all for family members. All I know is that I comes up on all my devices (same iCloud account).

Oh man, I love this, Apple! Making it easier to control the system volume is big. Officially tipped me over the edge of installing the dev beta. Great find and thanks for reporting.

The remote app in control center still not working on my phone (XR). I downloaded the remote app from the App Store and it works fine. Issues began with iOS 12.2 Beta 1.

I do not have those volume buttons on my lock screen. I wonder if it is related to the TV you have or your settings.

Not sure if this is new but I don’t recall the photos app displaying a “raw” icon when displaying raw photos.

Only appear when editing a raw photo.

If the AppleTV is going to be reconceptualized, why would the new icon be the old remote design?

My guess would be compatibility issue. My Apple TV goes into a Samsung TV, then my audio receiver connects to my TV via an HDMI-ARC. So when I control ‘TV’ volume on my iOS devices it runs through the ARC and controls receiver volume.

(I don’t run everything through my receiver because it doesn’t support 4K-HDR passthrough, that’s why I use the ARC)
