I have four OGs as well and one of them makes like an amplified electronic pop sound every few minutes. Almost like a shortened version of the noise you hear when plugging an electric guitar into an amp. I think that is the issues others have as well.
Just one of them? Must be a hardware issues, surely. I’ve never heard that on mine and I’ve had them for years.

Still no luck with the latest update. 16.1 worked fine with music automations with HomePod mini (as hub) and Belkin Soundform.
As soon as I added an AppleTV as a hub, all the music automations worked!
Apple - what did you do to the Mini since 16.1??

Yeah I'll update it right away just like every other time, but don't expect it to fix the Hey Siri fails!

Apple seriously needs to consider giving us an actual updating status bar. This circle ⭕️ thing is not helpful and it doesn’t show how much progress has been made.

The popping sound is the real problem of OG homepod. Apple does not want to admit that.
Nope, no popping sounds, none at all. sounds like you have some radio interference from something nearby. My son in law had a CB antenna connected nearby, that created a lot of interference. Totally trashed his Samsung microwave too- known issue LOL, piece of crap. That is what Id check for, you know they are wireless right?

Funny how this makes it seem like Siri has had a tiny little issue that is now being fixed.

While she’s been on this o-ho, one second, still working, something went wrong trip for many years.

Hey Siri!….Hey Siri!!!! Heeeyyy Siiirriiii!!!
That's one of the issues I have. She usually responds to my normal voice, but sometimes I have to shout. Other issue is no consistency. Sometimes if I ask to watch something, and she gives options, I can say first/second...and other times she ignores. But then I swear and she says she won't respond, so she's obviously listening but being difficult.

This update didn't solve the following problem for me. When I ask Siri to unlock my Level lock, from inside, she says that she can't do it and that I have to continue on my iPhone. Then I see a banner pop up on my iPhone to continue the request, and I tap it and it shows an error message. I'm so tired of this. I don't own a TV, otherwise I would use an Apple TV for a HomeKit hub over a HomePod. My Sonos speakers are sufficient for my needs. Siri needs to grow up and stop making promises it can't deliver on.
Sometimes these are bugs on the HomeKit vendor side. My Yale smart locks work fine.

Yeah mine too. but this is worse. It's 100% of HK requests
Mine are 100% of first attempt requests for IKEA devices from HomePod. Siri on iPhone works fine with the same devices. All other HomeKit devices have worked fine. Hopefully this update fixes IKEA. Tired of asking Siri to turn the lights on twice in a row.

EDIT: So far so good on IKEA devices. They are working on first Siri request.

Hello fellow HomePod friends,

I hear many “blah blah software is bad blah blah” and “holy heck these things suck and die” countless times.

I have also been the victim of many failed Siri requests across all OS updates from 11 onward. It’s true at times things fall apart but let’s not loose sight of all that the HomePod does and does well.

Everyone’s got their opinion and that’s rad, I’ve just updated my fleet to 16.3.2 (Apple TV’s as well) and while not the smoothest things are running great.

I must disclose I was one of the very lucky few who got the new HomeKit architecture update applied to everything smoothly so maybe that’s the secret. Either way I did notice a few devices (for some reason only left HomePods in stereo pairs for me) showing as ‘not responding’ the home app on 16.3.1. When you played something via Airplay the ‘no response’ HomePod kicked right in and played as if nothing was wrong. Seems like .1 had some reporting issues, to be safe I unpaired the stereo pairs and ran updates separately. I did reset one mini in the bathroom (always go slow when you do this they love to take their time) but it was back up and running in no time. Curiously enough one of the Apple TV’s did ‘no responses’ on the new 16.3.2 and a quick power cycle brought it back from the dark side.

Apologies for the ramble but figured I would give some real world feedback vs just whine about stuff not working.

For those wondering about what’s actually fixed we’ll get stoked cause it’s a bunch!
Internal requests (open my blinds, change light color ect) seem to be working and must I say it’s snappier than I can remember. Asking Siri to play music the music currently in the host room in another room no works reliably again (ie Hey Siri, play the music in the bedroom as well.) Airplay 2 multi room seems to stay in sync better but that’s usually the case unless you have wifi issues.

I’m still noticing the slight pause and restart at the first 10-15 seconds of a lossless track playback but the duration of the dropout is seemingly reduced. Still noticeable and annoying as ever.

For those of you who have a HomePod that makes a loud pop (and might even reboot after popping during music playback.) That may be a hardware problem, unplugging the power after recently pausing music may yield a pop. In most cases it’s not a cause for alarm, if it sounds loud (you would not be comfortable holding your ear to it for example) it may be the onset of hardware failure.

This is not an ad but there is a dude out there if you search HomePod repair named Nic who has a nice little website describing all the repairs that can be done to aging OG HomePods. (I guess the dude can dye white ones too.)

Oh fun lil bonus for anyone who got this far the HomePod OG vs HomePod v2 OS updates from 16.3.1 -> 16.3.2 were different sizes.
V1 came in at 65.8mb while V2 was 64.9mb.
Fun stuff.

Alongside iOS 16.3.2, Apple today released new 16.3.2 software that's available for the HomePod, second-generation HomePod, and HomePod mini.

HomePod-2-White-and-Midnight-Feature-Blue-Orange.jpg

According to Apple's release notes, HomePod software version 16.3.2 addresses an ongoing problem with HomeKit-related Siri requests, which could fail. There have been multiple complaints about Siri failing to correctly respond to a HomeKit-related requests the first time a request is received, with a timeout occurring. The update should fix that problem for those who have been impacted.

Article Link: Apple Releases HomePod 16.3.2 Software With Fix for Siri Request Failures

Thank Jobs! Ever since 16.3, my HomePods were failing 3 out of 4 requests. HomeKit works reliably when using the Home app on any device but HomePod has been failing to complete actions for the last few weeks and it was driving me insane!

EDIT: Wow... this fixed it. I have the new HomeKit infrastructure from iOS 16.2 and this finally fulfills its promise. HomeKit requests are executed barely as I finish speaking. This is definitely not going to the network, processed and sent back out to the device. It's clear that the HomePod is skipping the network and executing the command directly to the device as per the new infrastructure.

It is a well known issue.......and a sign that your OG HomePod is about to die. Nothing to do with interference.

I just tried my level lock and it worked but I did have to continue in my iphone. That I think is a security feature so no one can yell that command and enter your home. You have apple tv as my home hub. Are you on latest firmware for level lock?

Here’s hoping the same fix arrives to apple watch - at least 50% of my resquests times out, or I need to repeat. Completely useless for Home control because of latency and randomness of responses

Get out of your bubble. This OG HomePod popping is a known issue.

If I had a tv, I would switch my HomeKit hub to an Apple TV in a heartbeat
